Sean Taylor
It's sort of sobering to be reminded of what truly constitutes a tragedy compared to say... when Mittens takes the field.

Taylor had a troubled start to his career, but he seemed to be turning it around this season both on and off the field.
What I find most disturbing is that this just reminds us of a culture that needs to be stomped out. Pac-Man, Vick... this is the end game. And athletes need to wake up to that reality. It makes me doubly proud to be a Texans fan when I look at the character of this team. Not an indictment of Sean Taylor - but of the culture and environment that surrounded him.
This really does illustrate the place of a sports team in a fans life. A classmate of mine is a hardcore Redskins fan and he's legitimately devastated. If this had been The Schaub, or Dunta (considering what he went through this offseason) - I don't know how I'd react.

Re: Taylor
And you're right--there but for the grace of God goes Dunta (or any of us).

As terribly unfortunate as it is - let us not do two things:
- Trivialize what happened. A young man with a promising future was murdered. Sorrow surrounds his family.
- Sanctify his passing on account of fame. Don't ever forget about what happening to other young men and women with promising futures.
