Rival

I know our franchise is only a few years old, but what makes sports great is having a rival. Who do y'all consider to be our rival? The Cowboys because they are from Dallas? The Titans because they are the old Oilers? The Jaguars because they are in our division and we can actually beat them? I know none of these teams will reciprocate the feeling, but what do y'all feel?

Hatred
To me, a sports rival is a team that you hate with every fiber of your being.  In college, it's Dirt Burglar Community College (a/k/a OU).  In baseball, it's the Cards.

The NFL is a bit different for me, because I have so much hate for so many different people and organizations.  I will always despise Bud Adams, but I find it impossible to hate the Titans anymore because of VY's presence there.

I definitely don't like the Jags, and they're probably our truest rival in the sense of a divisional opponent that brings out the best in you.

When it comes to a true, gut-wrenching, rage-inducing opponent, however, there's nobody like Dallas.  I abhor everything about them, from their owner to their fans (not the true fans that stuck with the team through 1-15 in 1989, mind you; it's the bandwagon frontrunners that I can't handle).  So Dallas gets my vote, though you're totally right in that it's a one-way street.  The Texans haven't done enough to warrant any sort of heat with anyone, save maybe Jacksonville.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Fun with Synonyms
Longhorns:Sooners = Texans:Cowboys
Longhorns:Aggies = Texans:Titans

Is it accurate?  I don't know...but it has been a long, long time since I took the SAT.

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

hmm
Gramatically, I think, you'd have to change the "=" to a "::" to get...

Longhorns:Sooners::Texans:Cowboys

I'd agree with this first one.

The second one however, not so much. I don't think of the Titans as little brother they way I do the Ags.  While Aggies constantly try to prove they are as good as the Horns, even if its just to get attention, I don't feel that the Titans do the same. I don't know if there is an analogy to be made between Texans and Titans.

wow
I misspelled the word "grammatically." Ain't that a bitch.

My take
I hate the Cowboys like I hate catheters.  But I'll hate the Titans with a passion until that selfish old mo*#$#!#* @#($#^@$@ ^@##$(@sucker Bud Adams dies.  As I have aged, I've become a pacifist.  I wish nothing but the worst for that POS.

That said, I voted for the Cowboys.  I'll always hate them.

Hate vs. Apathy
Too hate someone, you have to have previously shown some type of respect so that you'd go out of your way to wish ill-will towards them. That being said, I Hate Bud Adams for two reasons-

1. He took the Oilers and 2. He has Vince.

Also, I hate the Cowboys for a couple reasons-

1. They won a lot of games during the 90's and were very smug about it and 2. Terrell Owens/Jerry Jones.

Now, aside from those two teams, I couldn't personally give a shit about any of the other teams. But I think that the team I absolutely care the least about is the Arizona Cardinals. I probably wouldn't get upset if a meteor hit their practice facility and killed the entire franchise. No biggie. We'll just contract a team and move on. Is that worse than hate?

I think people should have to earn a Superman tattoo, by getting shot in the chest first. You know, just to make sure.

Worse? -- Not sure.

Funny? -- Hell yes.
