Jacoby and the End Zone
I was reflecting back on the Texans/Cowboys game this morning while I was in the shower. Despite being only half awake, I have quite a few moments of clarity (not that this was one of my best). If only I could just sit under a shower head here at the office, who knows what I might be capable of. But I digress...
I realized that while I'm as big a fan of Jacoby as anyone, my first reaction to both of his punt return celebrations was negative. I also felt guilty, since as a kid I was one of the many who used to imitate Billy "White Shoes" Johnson's "Funky Chicken", and even got a kick out of Ernest Given's "Electric Glide".
Why was I annoyed? Am I getting old and grumpy? Maybe. I don't particularly enjoy showboats like Chad Johnson and guys trying to be a cool animation in the next Madden football game. And there are direct impacts on the team(discounting the 15 yard[ED yard not year] penalty). Celebrating didn't work out too well for Adrian Peterson breaking his collarbone or Leon Lett getting bushwhacked by Don Beebe in the Super Bowl, did it? It sounds like Kubiak isn't too interested in Jacoby's antics, though it's hard to come down too hard on such a likeable and talented guy. But then again, maybe Houston needs more personality on our sports teams to get past our respectable but often boring "good guys" image.
So where does that leave me in my moral dilemma? I concluded that it would be cool to see Jacoby enjoy some end zone fun 1) after crossing the goal line and 2) if it doesn't present too much risk for injury (like a dive). I suppose some unlucky guy could always tear his ACL doing the "Funky Chicken", but geez, you've got to live a little.
Let me see what you think in the poll below.

100% Agreed
Nothing wrong with having a little bit of fun, but there's a fine line.
That front flip
But I also have the double standard. I giggled like a school-girl when AD/AP broke his collarbone...not because of the injury, but because of how he injured himself.
And one of the highlights of the last year was when Reggie got blasted by a linebacker on a quick throw to him at the LOS. I don't remember what team it was, but it was damn funny.

Thanks for filling in the blanks
Now, encylopedia (or Triple347, whatever)...I am in need of a link to a video clip showing this moment. Go!
That was a great hit.
"Did I feel anything? Nah. It was like running through a cardboard box. Seriously. Cardboard box."

Stupid me...
Well done Encyclopedia
I nearly cried at the beauty of seeing that again.
Re:
Pure speculation, but something tells me that Kubiak isn't a big celebration dance supporter.
sigh...
But, alas, I think I would've liked JJ's celebration except for his choice. I mean, seriously, the guys he copied are...well, this is a family site, and I will be kinda good.
I have to admit that I love what LT does. Act like you have been there. But we need more. We need enthusiasm. As bv mentions (and a great post, btw), as Oilers fans, we have seen the best celebrations the NFL has to offer. I ask that JJ be original in the tradition of White Shoes and Givens. Celebrate, but make it classy and make it about you. You, we, and the Texans deserve it, as I feign that he'll actually read the site.
