Open Game Day Thread--Miami v. Houston

Miami Dolphins @ Houston Texans

Down, but not out. Bent, but not broken. Run over by the equivalent of a semi carrying three (3) tons of bad luck and maimed accordingly, but not dead. We are Texan fans.

Houston cannot lose today. And they shall not lose today. Why, you ask? Because I said so. That, and because we as a fanbase do not deserve another kick to our collective package. Our metaphorical testes have swollen to the size of grapefruits. We need to heal, so I ask Miami to be gentle.

As always, leave your pre-game, in-game, and post-game analysis, rationalizations, and Biblical comparisons in the Comments below. A second game day thread shall post to the main page at 1:30 p.m. CDT; let's move the party over there at the appropriate time. GO TEXANS!

I was up late

… but I couldn’t sleep this morning… so I’m up early (for a guy who doesn’t go to church and has no kids).

We’re going to win this game… it’s not going to be easy, but we’re going to win. I feel good about it.

There will be no helicopter crashes. : |

Wins a comin' I say

After the delicious and beautiful Red River Shootout yesterday… and the American History X curb-stomping the US laid on Cuba last night… the winds, they are a shifting.

Victory is coming our way.

Good luck guys...it'll be interesting...2 teams fighting for respect

these games are always close…so it’ll be fun to watch

go dolphins

On this team, we are all united in a common goal: to keep my job

Yes sah

Let’s hope for no injuries and an exciting game.

I’ll take a win right now. I think we had some respect going into the year, but it’s pretty much all gone now, LOL.

Wow

I can see that we treat Dolphin visitors a hell of a lot better than they treat ours over at Phinsider. Sheesh.

Once again

I’m going to miss most of the game as my band has rehearsal today. We have to beat this team, and I still think we will. I predicted 30-17 H-town, and I’m standing by it.

JJ and the ball

Still get nervous when he’s holding it.

LOL, we suck

Unbelievable… yet, not surprising.

by HoustonDiehards on Oct 12, 2008 12:18 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Hmmm...

3/4ths good game by Rosenfels, or 3/4ths bad game by Schaub. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

Mizzou: Not desperately hanging on to a bygone winning tradition since 1900.

What a shock that...

Our coaches (maligned all season) are getting torched by this gimmicky bullshit.

First-ever win over Houston

The Dolphins seek their first-ever win over Houston. GO! Dolphins!

"WE WANT SAGE" chant just heard.

Our fans don’t show up, and the ones who do show up are dumbasses. Great!!!! I love being a Texans fan!!!

by HoustonDiehards on Oct 12, 2008 12:43 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Seriously?

Were all of these fans out of the country until right before kickoff?

Foreign friend (girl of course)

Asked me once after I was pissing and moaning about my teams, “Why don’t you just pick a new one?” I tried to explain to her sports loyalty and the gratification I’ll experience when one of my teams wins the big one.

Sometimes I think she might be right.

That sort of punt

was never supposed to be Turk’s specialty. He’s always been a punter that kicks high and deep. If he screws up one of those punts, then he deserves to be ridiculed. As it is, at least he’s not the TEP.

It's times like these

that make me glad that I don’t live in a high rise apartment building.

Diles

needed to take the blocker on his outside shoulder. He took him on the inside shoulder, and allowed Cobbs to take it outside….not a good play by Diles, IMHO.

by Triple347 on Oct 12, 2008 12:48 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Great point...

Saw the same thing. He has outside contain. He fucked that up.

He’s been relegated to doing Texans/Dolphins games…

Ok, now that he's gotten that out of his system

he should be good to go for the rest of the game. At least, if the trend from last season holds.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 12, 2008 12:53 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Two things

(1) Someone please teach Stevie Wonder how to fasten his chin strap.

(2) Why did Steve run for the one guy in his way?

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 12, 2008 12:54 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Actually

I was wondering BOTH of those things. Is this what we’re resigned to noticing in games?

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 12, 2008 12:55 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Right...

Stevie needed to bounce it to the outside

schaub has stalled every single drive so far

i do not want sage, i know schaub can do it. but shit, he really needs to step up his game

Why does TJ hate Dolphins QB's so much?

Doesn’t he know that Ronnie Brown isn’t even the real QB?

Makes me want to drop-kick a puppy and throw a toddler through a window.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 12, 2008 1:00 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I haven't been that impressed so far

With the exception of that one play, they haven’t gotten much production out of it against our D.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 12, 2008 1:02 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It just looks stupid.

And gimmicky. Save gimmicky for Texas Tech.

Could we have what Bush had last week? 2 punt returns

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 12, 2008 1:13 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Well, we've already got

the two turnovers he had last week, so why not.

Slaton

has had a couple of pretty good runs, actually.

by Triple347 on Oct 12, 2008 1:15 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It's still early

and we’ve been trailing the whole game to boot. It’s tough to run the ball alot when you’re down by more than a touchdown.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 12, 2008 1:16 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Not sure you know either.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 12, 2008 1:19 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

that was a good call to punt

the bad call was expecting ahman to get the first down without pulling a toe muscle

by texanphil on Oct 12, 2008 1:19 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Nobody thinks the punt was a bad call

But – short pass, run, run – with over a minute and one T.O.??

Kubiak is coaching scared, and there’s nothing that pisses me off more than coaching/playing scared.

should stem the boos for now

but jacoby is the difference between terrible and modest first half

Coaching

I’m now on board with everyone else. The coaching has got to be the weakest link on this team. Half the time I’m wondering what the flying fuck are they calling on offense. And the next time I see us actually blitz, I may shit myself out of surprise.
