Wow, great game!

Can’t believe the QB draw got us, but wow. That was exciting to watch! Just when I thought the Fins were going to pull it off, you guys get it down the field and score! Just an amazing game!

Good dame fellas!

Seconded

You’re a class act, DolfinPhan. Best of luck in the AFC East.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Celebrate?

Nah. It’s more of a relief than anything. I can’t get excited about 1-4… but man, I’m glad we won. Although, it still FEELS like we lost. I’m all jittery. LOL

by HoustonDiehards on Oct 12, 2008 3:30 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i cant believe this

im listening to the game, hear vandermeer scream interception. go pout, then hear the texans won.
it definitely feels like we lost

I'm relieved for sure

but excited that we finally got this monkey off our backs. It was an ugly game, but after all the rhetoric about no moral victories, a win is a win, and I’m happy.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 12, 2008 3:35 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

im just glad we aren’t 0-5… no more worries about going winless, at least

when will the losing end? THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

hey guys

I’m here. What’d I miss?

Just kidding. I watched every gut-wrenching second. Between yesterday’s Texas win and today’s Texans win, I’m so emotionally drained and elated at the same time. I thought for sure, without a doubt, that after Wilson fumbled away his interception the Fins would win. Damn I’m glad Schaub found it in him to drive that last time.

Chew on this:
-almost 500 yards of total offense against that “vaunted” Dolphin D
-370 passing for Matty
-held Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams to 96 yards on 24 carries
-except for that wildcat pass to Cobbs and the screen that went for a TD to him, our D played very well
-Super Mario plays big again, despite being being taken down every other play
-Ahman Green looked good!
-We lost the turnover battle but won the game

Why

Are there so many people on forums crapping Schaub so harshly? People still are calling for Sage Rosencopter because the offense “just looks better” under him?

Why don’t game winning drives get QB’s any respek anymore?

by b0ng on Oct 12, 2008 5:45 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Its because

Shaub still sucks. AJ made him look good with that amazing catch from Shaub’s crappy pass into 2 defenders. Shaub is not all that accurate like Sage is. If I was the coach I would start Sage. He is more of a leader and is better. I know that no one is going to agree but I think it’s true.

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 12, 2008 7:26 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

"Shaub is not all that accurate like Sage is."

This is my first post on BRB, because this just compels me to say something.

Were you watching last week’s game? Rosenfels was threw into coverage multiple times. His TD pass to AJ would probably have been picked off if Johnson weren’t such a beast. Sage got bailed out over and over again by our receivers.

Schaub isn’t perfect, but he’s the best that the Texan’s have. He wasn’t throwing well today, but he got it done. And he, at the very least, didn’t turn the ball over by attempting to leap over defenders. He knows how to slide.

And I don’t think any one of us knows who is the better “leader.” Only the players really know that.

by Only_A_Lad on Oct 12, 2008 7:50 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Agreed for the most part

yes he threw into coverage, but Schaub throws into coverage over and over again. He got over 300 yards in the past 2 games he played but also threw ALOT of interceptions. Yes the leader has to be agreed by the team.

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 12, 2008 8:00 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Stats...

…are horrible things.

Schaub the last two games: 686(!) yards, 4 TD, 2 INT. Rosy has a 25/20 TD/INT ratio for his career. Let’s not look at the fumbles.

And I think we can officially lay the whole “AJ hates Schaub” thing to rest, as well.

The argument reminds me of the old Warren Moon vs. Cody Carlson days, to be honest.

by bigfatdrunk on Oct 12, 2008 9:18 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

lemme add...

that’s it’s perfectly acceptable for intelligent people to disagree. But, in this case, I am having a very difficult time buying your side of the argument.

by bigfatdrunk on Oct 12, 2008 9:55 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Ridiculous

Schaub carved up the Dolphins for 379 yards. Sage did about 1/3 of that against a Colts defense that was not really on the field ever.

After watching the highlights anybody who says that they would start Sage should only coach junior high football.

by b0ng on Oct 12, 2008 11:08 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

couldn't agree more

with 8 mins to go in last weeks game, I was fully onboard the Rosey bandwagon. After the last 3 mins, he is a great #2 qb, but we cannot trust him with the game ball every weekend.

Schaub has lost some polish from last year ever since the Dallas game in the pre-season, but he won the game today, and an ugly win is better than a beautiful loss every week.

Its Schaubs job until he cannot lead the team anymore, which after last weekend, will be a long time.

Healthy and Turnover free 2008-09, and we win 11!

by texanphil on Oct 12, 2008 7:28 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

All we have to do

is give Sage one more chance. That was his only game that he messed up. Sage finds the open guys. Like today in a replay I saw Slaton WIDE open with no one around him for 20 yards but Shaub throws it into triple coverage to AJ. AJ is amazing but im going to throw the ball to the open reciever. He didnt even have any pressure in the pocket

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 12, 2008 7:31 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No,

we’ve given Sage plenty of chances.

Remember his game against Pittsburgh last year? Where he gave up like four interceptions? And, as pointed out above, that’s the typical Sage.

Sage is a decent backup. He’s experienced and he usually doesn’t make too many mistakes. But he does make too many to be a regular starter, as evidenced by his mental collapse last week.

People need to let this QB Controversy thing go – it should have been over last week.

It's Amazing

How many “fans” are just ripping schaub and co. after a win over on chron.com. Schaub stayed focused after a bad start and won the game as opposed to giving the game away. All that Booing would’ve sent Vygina crying in the parking lot.

Makes me sick with his way of finding something negative no matter how the Texans are doing. He called them “losers” throughout the his live blog, I just skimmed it, didn’t read it.

Post-Game Breakdown Should Be Up This Afternoon

There is no QB controversy, and I was AMAZED at the number of people chanting “We Want Sage!” at Reliant yesterday afternoon. It’s like last week never happened, and that’s absurd.

Schaub led the team on a game-winning drive yesterday and capped it off with an excellent run. I’d wholeheartedly agree that he played poorly until that last drive. The last drive, however, is what matters most. Would anyone really want the alternative—great numbers from Schaub all game until the last drive, and then a costly turnover to lose the game?

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Stuck to their guns

I think this win is a huge shot in the arm for a team that was desperate for a confidence booster.

I heard the calls for Sage, but in my section most of the voices sounded like young kids

This was certainly not the best we have seen of Schaub, in fact he was downright bad on more than a few throws yesterday. Besides the picks that were forced into coverage, with little chance of anything positive happening, he was throwing behind his receivers way too often. If he does not progress to be at least as good (when he gets decent protection) as he was last year, then I think we have no QB controversy, because we do not have any legit #1’s. Furthermore, even if Schaub regains his accuracy, he still needs to prove he has at least a little durability. He has yet to prove that he can take a hit, and keep on playing well. All great QB’s have to do this at some point. Schaub has the rest of the season to prove he is worthy of Kubiak’s praise. Kubes had a chance to evaluate Carr, and he did not look good there. If he is wrong on Schaub too, then McNair will have to take a hard look at changes in the leadership group. I am certainly not promoting change for the sake of change, but if our head coach, a former QB, cannot choose a QB capable of leading this team to the top, then he is not the right man to coach our team.

by oiler-texan diehard on Oct 13, 2008 3:47 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Postgame

Yeah, I was at the game, too. I was one of the guys yelling for Sage (although admiteddly it was mostly fueled by Schaub’s super suck in the first quarter and frustration on being 0-4), but Schaub’s bizarre “we will win despite the fact that basically everything that could have gone wrong nearly did” game winning drive has shown me the error of my ways.

So I am on the Schaub kool-aid! Although seriously, he needs to make better decisions. He gave me so many heart attacks ><

Tim, I wanted to ask: Did it feel, just, really weird at the stadium on Sunday? It felt very subdued. There were really only a few times where the fans jacked up the noise, in a very good game (save the 1st quarter)

Anyway, 1-4 feels super, super, super good, and now we have 4 games that we can and should win. It’s very crazy, since we would need a huge winning streak to be in contention, but two good teams to play to start the momentum are the laughable Lions and Bengals.

Re: Postgame

Completely agree. Reliant was awfully quiet, as if every fan was just waiting for the other shoe to drop. After last week, we’re so gun-shy right now that we don’t even know what to do with ourselves.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Schaub

Reminds me in a way of Warren Moon. Granted, Moon had a much better arm, but he came to town and took a few years to get going. People were always ripping him for throwing too many picks, just like they do Schaub.

But after a couple of years, Moon figured it all out, and turned into a pretty good qb.

Granted, in this day and age there is much more pressure to win right away, but when your qb is putting up numbers like Schaub has over his last two games and leading 2 minute drills that put you in a position to win, I think it’s fair to say that all the tools (including the mental ones) are there. Football is such a complex game that it is rare for any qb to jump right in and be a star.

For me the biggest difference between Sage and teh Schaub was the way they reacted in the last two minutes. IIRC, they both had roughly the same amount of time to drive the team downfield. Schaub held his cool and led the team on drives against the Jags (on the road, no less) and the Phins that produced points. Sage, not so much.

I think Sage is a pretty good qb and we could do well with him. But Schaub’s upside is much greater, imo, and we can do very well with him under center.
