Ticket Giveaway

Reliant_stadium_seating_chart_medium

I won 2 tickets to this Sunday's game against the Bengals.  I won't be able to make it, so I thought it would be fun to give them away here on the blog.

I haven't picked them up yet, so I have no idea where the seats are or if there are parking passes or anything like that.

If you want to see the Texans roll to a 3-game winning streak, then I'll need you to post a comment with the following:

  • What is your most memorable Texans moment?
  • What is your most painful Texans moment?
  • Who is your favorite non-starter on the Texans?

Last but not least, if you get these tickets, I want you to promise to take a camera to the game.  I want you to post some Fan Shots of all the action, whether the seats are nosebleeds or 50 yd. line.

My decision on the 'winner' is going to be completely arbitrary and subjective.  I'm going to try to pick someone that loves the Texans as much as I do and who I think would have fun at the game.

These tickets are in no way guaranteed.  I'll do everything I can to get them to you in a timely manner, but I nor Battle Red Blog make any guarantees about them.

I will update this post with the details once I pick up the tickets from the Sports Radio 610 offices tomorrow.

(special thanks to aatravelguide.com for the images)

UPDATE:

Tickets_medium
The tickets are for section 607, row M, seats 18 & 19.  Click on the map above and you'll find section 607 at the very top.  They look kinda like nosebleeds, but hey you're still at the Texans game.  No parking passes or anything like that :(

Sports Radio 610 didn't hook me up all that much, even when I knew that only Clinton Portis had more yards from scrimmage than Andre Johnson.

Thanks for making this an awesome post.  I absolutely loved all the entries.  There's no way I could choose anyone on the merits of their fandom.  So many great fans on this blog.

I chose one winner and one back-up.  The winner I chose was Southern Lion.  He's been a great contributor to the blog and is a great fan.  I would love to know that BRB was a part of getting him to a live game.  If he can go, the tickets are Southern Lion's.

If he can't go for some reason, I chose Leein3D as a back-up.  I loved the South Park reference.  Great post.

The only thing I'm sad about is that I don't have tickets for everyone.  However, we at BRB are looking into more things to improve the site and really build the BRB community.  Keep your eyes peeled and your RSS readers locked here.

Thanks again for participating and as Matt put it, "baring your soul".

Um... er....

Are fellow bloggers who just took a bunch of kick ass pictures at the last game eligible? I can guarantee you awesome pictures – which of course would all be usable anywhere you like.

But I feel like I’m being greedy… then again my trip to the Lions game wasn’t free :)

Memorable Texans moment – Definitely win #1 against the Cowbooys. I almost cried. #2 would have to be the Denver game last year when the crowd was chanting MARIO! MARIO! MARIO!

Most painful? Where to begin – In all honesty, I’ve never had a lower feeling as a football fan (other than The Choke in Buffalo) I’ve never had a worse feeling in the pit of my stomach than I did after Sage Rosenfels went Black Hawk Down. I’m still pissed about it, and I can hardly keep from mentioning it in every post.

Favorite non-starter – Easy. Dunta Robinson. He’s the heart and soul of the defense. He’s got an incredible personality, hates to lose, loves to lead, and dammit I just love the guy. If that’s a cheat since he usually IS a starter – I’d have to go with Earl Cochran. He’s a guy who has to constantly fight for a roster spot, and as far as I’m concerned has overtaken Anthony Weaver at the other DE spot, even if he’s not a starter. Great motor, and as far as I can tell – a great attitude. I love a guy who fights off the practice squad and into the mix on gameday..

Anyway – if you feel weird about giving the tix to a fellow blogger, I get that totally. But I will take TONS of pics, and of course – the damn game isn’t even on TV in Austin this week. :D

Well here goes

Most of the answers are probably going to be similar to others but anyways.

Favorite moment was the inaugural game for sure, my first ever game in person and the day I fell in love with the Texans and football in general. Seeing Carr to Miller on the opening drive and I was hooked. And then started the rollercoaster of emotions from year to year and week to week.

Most painful moment was seeing Sage take flight and me getting up excited and then seeing the ball fall from his hands as my stomach sank and feeling nauseous like someone just kicked me in the junk. That and just going 2-14 in 05 wasn’t much fun to watch at all.

Favorite non-starter anyone playing in place of the tumor that is Travis Johnson. That and I had a soft spot for Babin when he was around, no clue why though.

I can't go this weekend...

but I wanted to answer the questions anyway. If you feel like choosing me, give my tickets to Chris.

1. My favorite moment was actually the drafting of Mario Williams. I don’t care whether it was Kubes, Casserly, or the Easter Bunny who made the pick, but taking a mutant DE over the hype machine and a QB who can’t throw was brilliant. As one of the 12 Americans who liked the pick from day 1, seeing him dominate over the last 14 months has been icing on the cake, but the pick was the RIGHT one regardless and I was happy to see my team make the right pick over the sexy pick.

2. Most painful? Well, I honestly thought I was going to throw up after the Sage Crash, but I’ll go with January 2, 2004. Coming into the game 7-8 with a chance to post the first non-losing record, that loss to the Browns still kinda stings. As time passes, however, I’m sure the Copter Game will overtake this one. Yay, perspective!

3. As for non-starters, I’m going Frank Okam. Dude is the ONLY real NT we’ve had in our existence, yet he doesn’t start. I still don’t get it. Unless he has mono or something, he should be out there on every first and second down at least. I fail to see how he isn’t an upgrade over DelJuan Robinson and Travis effin’ Johnson.

Yay, sports.

Very generous of you to give away your tickets

I always admire your endless supply of optimism, and now I give kudos to you for this very generous act. I already have tix, so don’t give them to me.

Most memorable moment – The all defense win at Pittsburgh way back, when the offense was a no show, but Aaron Glenn supplied all the points we needed. A road win over the Steelers, how rare is that? Other than the big win over Indy at X-mas time a few years ago, HDH hit the nail on the head with the other 2 greatest home moments in franchise history.

Most Painful Moment – We had the most notable one as a team 3 weeks ago vs Indy, but the horrific injury at Oakland last November has to be the most painful to watch. Dunta is the heart and soul of our D. We are blessed that he has been able to recover so much of his ability as fast as he has. He was a pleasure to watch last Sunday as he came bouncing out of the tunnel. The fan reaction was real. We all know how much we need him to step up and return to his position as THE leader.

Favorite non-starter – Andre Davis (unless starting KO returner) makes him a starter. I also really liked what I saw of David Anderson in the preseason games. He looks a lot like Wes Welker, but we are so deep at WR he hardly gets a chance to play.

Thanks again for your act of generosity and GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Rosencopter.

Most memorable moment: First touchdown against the Dallas Cowgirls. Pass from Captain Hairspray to Billy Miller(wtf happened to him anyway). My first texans game too!

Most Painful Moment: The Rosencopter. Need I say more?

Favorite Non-Starter: The two gamecocks. But im pretty sure once Dick Smith is fired they’ll be our starters so I gotta go with Frank the Tank Okam. He’s got the size and skill. He just need more reps. Damn you Dickie Smith!

Billy Miller is on the Saints

and I to wish that the Tank was getting some reps on gameday.

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for offering these tickets to fans....

Hmmm, I’m wondering if these are 610’s front row tickets. In any event, I am hoping to get some friends of mine to come to the game with me so, here’s my entry….

Most Memorable Moment: I’ve had so many. How loud it was for the Dallas game. Running through the tunnel four times in front of the team. For me personally, it was the first Battle Red win against the Jags. I had front row tickets for that game. Close. Pete Faggins intercepts the ball, runs for the touchdown and jumps on the wall.

It was so freaking loud and everyone was so freaking happy. My friend is in the picture, far left front row. http://watrzky.homestead.com/files/zkywords/posts/battle_red.jpg I’m next to her, not in the picture but I can remember how awesome it was to be screaming my head off seeing him return the interception and running straight towards us. End zones are a very fun place to watch the game.

Most Painful Moment: Gee, too many. Rosenchappa. VY My House game with VY’s mom and Mattress Mac sitting in the same section as me. KC prime time game stomping—fun tailgate, absolutely awful game. But I guess the worst as far as experiencing it was the Rams game in 2005. In a bad season, it is easy to score great tickets. I sat behind the Texans bench.

The players were just so embarrassed that whole season. And the Rams game they were playing so well. For most of the game. And then the Rams came back. The onside kick that ended up getting it into overtime happened right in front of my seats.

So very quickly, the joy and the happiness on the players faces quickly turned into concern and then to disgust. Some of the players were already taking off their tape when the Rams came back. When the Texans finally lost that game, it was miserable seeing how despondant they were. As an NFL player, when you walk around, basically everyone knows you that way. So being a Texans player that year had to weigh on them because the team was so awful. The offense and defense were unspeakably awful to watch.

Favorite Non-Starter: Has to be Dunta Robinson, though I suppose that shouldn’t count because he is coming off of injury. I would say David Anderson mostly because I identify with try hard guys who make a squad because they do everything the coaches ask and more. And he is funny. And willing to shave lightning bolts in his hair.

I couldn't get to Houston for the game...

but let me answer just for fun.

1. Most memorable moment: Superbowl win. Oh… you mean one from the past? Ok, I’ll go with the first game against Dallas. I would also put the Dolphin’s game where Mario got his first sack and then combined with DeMeco the following play for another half sack. That was awesome.

2. Most painful memory. I would have to go with the VY OT TD run. At the time, there was still a raging debate about the first pick in the draft. Plus it was against the Titans. Plus it was another painful last minute loss. Mostly, though, that hurt because of the amount of people in the crowd cheering for him. And I was watching it on TV a thousand miles away. If I were in the stands, I would have just punched the nearest person that was cheering.

3. Favorite non-starter: Didn’t Amobi lose his starting job? I’ve been kind of out of it the last few weeks, so I haven’t been able to follow the between game news that closely. If so, that’s my answer. I still have total faith that he’s going to be a badass. Otherwise, I’m going to go with the pair of rookies who don’t play much: Xavier Adibi and Antwaun Molden. I think both of these guys have the ability to become great players and I’m excited to see them develop.

Yeah, so I cheated and took more than one guy for #3. Whatever… I’m not in the contest anyway.

I'd love to see the Bungles!
* What is your most memorable Texans moment?

Hmm, this is a bit of a tough one, but I’ll have to go with Kris Brown kicking the game-winning field goal against the Colts on Christmas Eve. That was just amazing. We had never beaten the Colts (in fact that still remains our sole victory over them), and to do so in such dramatic fashion truly made it seem like a Christmas miracle!

* What is your most painful Texans moment?

Wow, another tough decision here. In fact this may be even tougher, seeing as how being a Texans fan since day one has given me plenty of painful moments. Vince Young’s overtime scramble into the end zone was the equivalent of urinating into the wind, having it all blow back in your face—some in your mouth, and then giving you some sort of bacterial infection.

But that’s probably not the worst moment. The worst moment came just this season, by the hands of none other than Sage “we’s gonna win! lulz jk” Rosenfels. I’ve never crashed from so high to so low in such an amazingly short amount of time. I literally felt sick. My stomach became upset—I even gagged a few times. I swear, somehow that intestinal infection that Matt Schaub had the night before was spread to all of Texans Nation on that dark Sunday afternoon.

* Who is your favorite non-starter on the Texans?

Technically, Dunta Robinson isn’t a starter right now, so he’d win hands down seeing as how he’s my favorite player in the NFL. But that’s like saying my favorite Honda is the Acura NSX. So for now, I’m going to have to go with none other than BRB favorite Tim Bulman. You’ve got to love his story and work ethic. And Timmah sure does have a motor on the field. He’s also a selfless guy who does whatever the coaches ask him to do. What’s not to like?

Living out of the NFL market...

and budgets being as tight as they are, I have yet to see an actual NFL game in person. San Antonio TV stations kiss Jerry Jones’ backside and report every stinking thing about the Dullass Cowtoys that I find it very frustrating. Half the time the Houston games aren’t even on in this town. Oh well, I’ve learned to live with it.

My most memorable Texans moment is, like many have already said, the first game ever, beating the Cowtoys. Seeing the unadulterated humiliation on the face of Jerry Jones was priceless. I’ll never forget it.

My most painful Texans moment has to be the game a few weeks ago against the Baby Horses. Up 27-10 and to lose 31-27 in the last 8 minutes. I felt even worse than I did when the Houston team #1 gave up 38 unanswered points to the Williams’ in 93, or was it 94?

My favorite non-starter would probably be a cheerleader. Seriously, I’m going with Ahman Green for what he and Jason Simmons did last year for the single mother who needed a home.

Anyway, there are my answers. Thanks for the opportunity.

I can't go this week

But I’m bored and I have ten minutes to kill before Always Sunny comes on, so I’ll indulge.

I thought about going with the day they finally cut Carr, but I figured I aught to be positive and constructive instead. So I’ll go with the hiring of Gary Kubiak for most memorable. He hasn’t exactly validated my choice so far this season, but as a former Broncos fan (it’s complicated. And it involves Jake Plummer), I was really excited when we hired him. He’s one of the classiest coaches in the game, and while we’ve been inconsistent (and that comes with a young team), he’s also given us some semblance of being competitive. If he ever gets canned, I’ll sort of understand, but that’s just the way the NFL works. I’m 90% certain that he’ll be a successful head coach in this league some day. I really hope it’s with us.

I’m tempted to go with the Rosencopter as the most painful memory, but I think it’s getting extra weight because it happened so recently. So I’ll go with Dunta Robinson’s injury. You could tell when it happened that it wasn’t going to turn out well. Not to mention, he’s my favorite player on the team, he’s a team leader, and he was the only bright spot in our secondary.

Favorite non-starter is the Bull-man. Between his story and how hard he goes at it every play, it’s tough not to root for him.

late to the party, but so what

Like Colonel Jessup, I’ll answer the question (even if I don’t have to):

What is your most memorable Texans moment?
being at the Broncos game last year and watching Mario eat Cutler. 3.5 times.

What is your most painful Texans moment?
being that the Chiefs/Texans game in ’05 and watching LJ run for 200+ while Philip Buchanon moved up to #1 on the “biggest p*ssy I ever saw” list.

Who is your favorite non-starter on the Texans?
is “anyone but Sage” an acceptable answer? No??

by grungedave on Oct 24, 2008 2:02 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

awesome answers.

i especially like that people had great moments beyond the standard answers.

i think we’re far enough away from Phillip Buchanon now to get a laugh out of him. Thankfully He’d probably be competing for dime back among our current DBs. Thank goodness for Robinson, Bennett & Molden.

Dunno if he could compete at dime...

after all, even the dime back has to make contact every now and then.

Christ, he’s such a pussy.

Yay, sports.

While that may be true...

Buchanon is starting for one of the best defenses in the game.
