Open Game Day Thread--Bengals v. Texans

Cincinnati Bengals at Houston Texans, Oct 26, 2008 3:05 PM CDT

Three (3) wins in a row. It's never happened in the nearly six and a half seasons of Houston Texans football. Will it happen today? Despite Cincinnati's record, the Texans had better not take them lightly; they're wholly capable of sticking one to the hometown team. If your Houston Texans are going to make history today, it won't be with anything but their "A" game.

As always, leave your pre-game, in-game, and post-game reactions and unintelligible rage in the Comments below. At 4:30 p.m. CDT, a second game day thread will post to the main page; please move the conversation there at the appropriate time. GO TEXANS!

Victory Weekend 3.0

It’s in full swing. Even Spurs notched a win!

And that’s to wacky European time rules, I only have to wait until 9pm for the game!

For those of us who follow other sports & teams.

I started an “other” teams fan post for those of us who follow soccer and other sports. Figured it would keep us from getting banned and keep the gameday thread focused on the Texans.

You can find it here.

You are not ready for Flacco

“2-8 OAK49 (5:37) (Shotgun) T.Smith pass deep left to J.Flacco to OAK 6 for 43 yards (R.Brown).”

Oh man. Flacco would burn Petey.

teams i like cannot play defense

is anyone watching the saints destroy san diego? the chargers defense might as well not be on the field. i am not relishing six hours of teams i love getting mangled by passing attacks

by Xetuoh on Oct 26, 2008 2:10 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

He didn’t endear himself last week…

by Xetuoh on Oct 26, 2008 2:11 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

so you think its a good or bad move to start Ferguson?

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 26, 2008 2:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Are you asking me to trust Richard Smith? I think he sets all the D up for a long day!
But, yes I’ll pray he offers more then Demps

by Xetuoh on Oct 26, 2008 2:14 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nah no one trust Smith

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 26, 2008 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I trust him

To make me want to shoot someone.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 2:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No argument from me! Why he still on the property at Reliant is beyond me…

by Xetuoh on Oct 26, 2008 2:17 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Because EVERYONE loves him! He is the best!

by TexanFanFromTheStart on Oct 26, 2008 2:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Yes, there are 16 OC who DO love him!

by Xetuoh on Oct 26, 2008 2:22 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The DC's love him too

When it comes time for their job evaluations, they all know that there’s at least one DC who’s worse than they are.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 2:28 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Touche’

So, there you go! Those who suck…love him.
Those who “know”…hate him.

Punt Return for a TD.

JJ getting an early start to the scoring after a three and out by the defense.

try KILT's radio broadcast

I can’t find any video streams. It sucks when two awful teams play one another. Nobody bothers to broadcast it or stream it.

when will the losing end? THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

by m1 on Oct 26, 2008 3:16 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

After the first series

It looks like the Bengals suddenly remembered what defense they were playing against. They’ve been getting steady yards every play.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:21 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Ugg

Our defense is painful to watch.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 3:21 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

3rd and 15.

What’s the plan, Richard?

by Nashmeister on Oct 26, 2008 3:24 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Wowsa.

We actually bent and didn’t break for once.

by Nashmeister on Oct 26, 2008 3:24 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Well, they did get the field goal.

But it’s better than the TD we usually give up.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:25 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Oh hey

We get to field an offense, too! Forgot about them.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 3:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Oh hey

Andre Johnson being awesome!

but gets tackled for a 5 yard loss on third down. Turk on to punt.

And we've got a Dunta sighting.

Tackles Houshmanagonnaworkhereanymore at the line of scrimmage.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:37 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Are we involved?

In a Cedric Benson self-help group right now or something?

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 3:39 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Third time he's done that

How are we not abusing this O-line? Gah.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 3:43 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

It looks like

we’re weak up the middle. We need a run stuffer up the middle.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:44 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

get okams fat ass in there!

when will the losing end? THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

when will the losing end? THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

by m1 on Oct 26, 2008 3:43 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

What the fuck?

Even R. Kelly is abusing our defense. This has to stop.

AJ

Is such a beast. He just shoved that guy past the marker.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 3:52 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

And he seems to have taken chinstrap lessons

from Steve Slaton. When I suggested a chinstrap clinic for Slaton, I didn’t mean that he should be teaching it.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:54 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Slaton runs the ball

and gets the short first down.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:56 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Pass to AJ

6 yard pass, down to the 12 yard line.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:56 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

make that the 7.

Was looking at the wrong side of the 10 apparently.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:57 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

offensive play calling

i am really, really liking it this drive

by cubic on Oct 26, 2008 3:57 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

David Anderson

All alone in the endzone for a TD.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 3:58 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

When's the last time we forced a turnover?

Wouldn’t mind one right about now, to put the proverbial nail in the coffin.

Great drive anyways, even without any help from the running game. This is easily one of the best offenses in football.

by Nashmeister on Oct 26, 2008 3:59 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

running game still helps

as long as we keep running, DBs stay honest and leave open spots

by BigTexBD on Oct 26, 2008 4:00 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

David Anderson

With the Conan O’Brien string dance. Whitest. Celebration. Ever.

Special teams

Is hittin’ some people today.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 4:01 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Molden in on the special teams tackle again.

He’s loking pretty good on Special Teams so far.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 4:02 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Jesus.

I realize we’ve only given up three points so far, but this defense still looks really bad.

by Nashmeister on Oct 26, 2008 4:05 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Anyone?

Well, there are only 31 other NFL teams, and something like 119 D1 college teams, so, I guess it would be 150 – however many football teams there are total/however many football teams there are total. So all in all, pretty good odds I think.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 4:08 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sigh.

One day we’ll prevent a QB from scrambling.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 4:09 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I predict

that day will eerily coincide with whatever day Richard Smith no longer works for the Texans.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

In all fairness...

We are talking about Ryan Fitzpatrick here. The guy has wheels.

by Nashmeister on Oct 26, 2008 4:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Not much

and when there has, there have been gaping holes that Fitzpatrick has scrambled through.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 4:12 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Dunta

makes a third down stop.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 4:13 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

This is only the second time

in 17 tries that the opposing offense hasn’t scored a TD once in the red zone.

by Tailgate Andy on Oct 26, 2008 4:13 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

That stat

Almost put me in tears.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 4:15 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

54 seconds left.

Think we’re gonna try to get those points back?

by Nashmeister on Oct 26, 2008 4:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

look out for DA BOMB TO DRE!!!!!

when will the losing end? THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

by m1 on Oct 26, 2008 4:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I'm not sure

That we’ve ever run a play without the TE going in motion. Ever. Not once.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 4:17 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

if jags and indi lose, we habve the same record as both

Limping 2 minute offense

Still not Baby Shan’s worst playcalling.

by DisplacedTexan on Oct 26, 2008 4:19 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Come on

Doesn’t Brown have a better chance of hitting a 61-yarder than that pass has of being caught?
