Texans @ Dolphins week 6

Ok people, I'm looking foward to this weeks game! In anticipation for the upcoming game, i'm giving a look at the matchup between us and the Dolphins.  Miami is looking good their last 2 (two) games, and that wildcat formation is doing some damage to opposing teams gamplans, and no one seems to have an answer for Ronnie Brown.  The Dolphins are currently on a 2 (two) game winning streak, while we are in the middle of a 4 (four) game losing streak.

Star-divide

STATS

(as per nfl.com today which have not updated for this last week yet.  I will update when they do):

Points per Game:                HOU 20.8pts/gm(18th)          MIA 19.8pts/gm(23rd)

Yards per Game:                 HOU 312.3yds/gm(13th)       MIA 324yds/gm(10th)

Points Allowed per Game: HOU 32.5(30th)                      MIA18.5(7th)

Yards Allowed per Game:  HOU 334.2yds/gm(18th)       MIA 288.8yds/gm(8th)

As you can see, Miami is not missing Jason Taylor so far with a top 10 D, but our Offense is a lil bit better, so as long as our D brings it like they did last game, this should be a good matchup.  Next we take a look a positions and who has the edge.

QB--------------Texans: Matt Schaub(at least i hope)           Miami:Chad Pennington

Yards and Per game     697/232.3 gm                                             817/ 204.2 per gm

Completion %                       64.5%                                                          67%

TD/int                                         4/5                                                              3/1

Advantage-Push: If Schaub had played last game and had these stats, id give it to Miami.  as is,  solid play from pennington without errors is part of the reason for the fins success. I have no doubt that if schaub would have played last gamewe would have won and his stats would have been decent.

RB---------------------------------Texans: Steve Slaton  Miami: Ronnie Brown

Yards/per gm                                       64yds/gm                        53yds/gm

avg per attempt                                    4.7yds/carry                  4.7yds/carry

TD/Fumble                                                   1/0                                     5/0

Advantage-Push: both teams running attacks are looking similar on paper, but the Texans seem to be pass first, and the Fins are run based.  look for similar yards but more tds from miami run game.

WR/TE Texans:A. Johnson/K. Walter/O. Daniels  Miami  t. ginn/g. caramillo/a. fasano

yds                          310                168            238                        130            214          197

rec                           24                  17               19                          15               17            14

td                             1                     3                  0                            0                 1                2

Advantage-Texans: We have a good bunch of recievers, and the qbs have done a good job distributing the ball.  Miami's widouts lack the talent, but the run game gives them more room to work with.

Defense.  Advantage-Miami:  the stats speak for themself.  Miami is currently a top 10 Defense, while we are in the bottom half.

Overall Advantage based on stats: Miami.  They look like a new team on a mission these last few games.  i have no doubt it will be a good game. look for the Fins to give a healthy dose of Ronnie Brown/Ricky Willaims the entire game, with around 10 snaps to Brown directly out of the wildcat. I'm expecting a 21-20 win for the texans as time expires.  BATTLE RED FOR LIFE!!!!

What do you think?

Took You Up On The Visit

I’d be crazy if I said this game didn’t worry me.

The Texans always beat the Dolphins and in the most boring of ways.

What was that, 5 field goals last year? Ugh…

This is a different Dolphins team this year (literally). They’re younger and better up front on both sides of the ball. The Dolphins defense should be able to dominate in this game.

That said: You guys always play us tough. Always. This is the kind of game that the Dolphins should win if they are truly ascending.

Also, here’s a link to a posting I put up on my blog about the “wildcat” or single-wing offense. It may clear up some of the misinformation about the offense. It’s been around a long, long time.

(note the spelling difference: I am not posing as Matty I over at SB’s The Phinsider – That guy is the real deal while I’m just a hobbyist)

The Miami Dolphins and The Carlisle Indian Industrial Institute

BTW: What happened to the Texans’ D? I really liked watching them last year.

that d....

I’m wanting to know myself. We really need a new d coordinator, and we dont missing half of our already week secondary doesn’t help. i i’m hoping to aviod a feild goal fest too, both offenses look more explosive this year, so td, not fg’s!!!!

side note. i know a lil about the wild cat, its just college formations like that normally don’t trnslate to the nfl, but this one appears to be working VERY effectively

when will the losing end? THIS WEEK!!!!!!!

When comparing the QB's

Maybe why didnt you compare the QB ratings. oops I know why. EDGE: MIAMI.

by Wade on Oct 6, 2008 10:03 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

qb ratings

the only reason i dont use qb rating is i think it is the one of the worst stats in the nfl. For anyone wondering, qb ratings are schaub 75.5, rosenfels 83.6, and pennington 87.9

By the way NFL.com

Has Penningtons rating @ 93.5 and Shaub @ 75.5. Big Difference. EDGE-MIAMI. Cmon admit it!!

by Wade on Oct 6, 2008 10:18 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

are you saying that penning is slightly better than rosenfels, who has a 83.6 qb rating?

and i admit, pennington is a good qb and i’ll give you a slight edge, but i dont think qb play will decide it, at least not miami’s. its gonna come down to your run game vs our run d.

Also your taking

2 teams who are averaging almost the same points scored per game 19.8 Miami vs 20.8 Houston and 2 teams whos defenses are allowing 18.5 Miami vs 32.5 Houston and coming up with a 21-20 win over Miami. Did you see what Miami’s D held the highest scoring offense (San Diego) in the league to. I would say theres a little bit of homerism going on there!

by Wade on Oct 6, 2008 10:13 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

all im saying

is we would have beat the colts if sage wasn’t being a homer. being a fin fan who went thru the same kinda thing last year, i think you know homerism makes things funner

and i hate to say it, but the only thing that scares me about the dolphins is the wildcat, just because it will make our d coordinator’s head fall off and roll on the floor…..seriously

Every thing fell together these last two games

for Pennington and the Fins and yes the wildcat did help ,but not as much as you think. Its like the offense just clicked. You have to see the games to know what I mean. Look @ Penningtons #s the last two games. Im not saying I think the Texans suck or anything because they have had a rough schedule so far and Rosenfels killed you guys on the last game (thats why we dumped his ass) but the Fins are on fire right now. But the Texans have always had our # so I guess we’ll have to wait n see.

by Wade on Oct 6, 2008 10:29 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

i will agree with you there, and i haven’t seen anything but highlights and they almost excluively show you wildcat, but you are right, it will be decided on sunday. dont get me wrong, i think pennington would be the shit if he had a better arm. like i said on phinsider, good luck to your team. and please take sage back…..he almost gave me a heart attack!

Good luck to you though m1, you’re a classy gent.

Just because they always play us great..

i woul say that we are going to win by 10 or a little bit more.
Even though the Texan D sucks, and the Dolphins D is in the zone. This should be a blowout, but againt, they have our #, so we will win by 10 or a little bit more.

I will see the Dolphins win a SUPER BOWL before i die(21 years and counting)

When you're looking at this team

Discard the W-L for a second, and take a look at recent form. Our defensive effort in the last two games has been pretty good — last week was outstanding, in fact. Schaub’s last start was the best of his career (29-41/3 TD/0 int/302 yds). The Texans gave as good as they got in J-ville and could have come away with a win.

In short, this team is much better than the record suggests. To judge them based on their record is to underestimate them significantly.

So thinking the Phins are going to win by ‘only’ ten points or so is a bit of a stretch, particularly since the game is being played in Houston.

Man O Man
good luck containing camarillo.

The Kool Aid is out. Containing Camarillo? That is hilarious.

The Texans are a better team than their record indicates.

In fact, they remind me a little of the 2006 Dolphins, who went on a nice 4-game winning streak against some good teams.

Bottom line: I wouldn’t bet a cent on this game. I think the Dolphins will get payback this game but it’s far from a sure thing.

I never once said the Texans weren't a good team

I never said anything about them remotely degrading. All I’m saying is Camarillo is maturing and gaining talent &&&&& always seems to be open. Calmate bro

Calmate Yo!

Your lips are red from the kool aid is all. Mine might be a little too.

I just liked the fact that his name is coming up in the way you used it. This guy was not a sure thing during cuts and now he’s their most consistent receiver (besides maybe Bess, which is equally funny).

He’s had one good game and couple other decent ones. A second big game will go a long way in developing him further.

Matter of fact: Did you hear his comments about swagger on Aquavision? Awesome stuff.

Still think the Dolphins will win. Still won’t bet a cent.

I've been a big Camarillo supporter (obviously since last year)

And like Matty has said a few times, he’s eerily similar to Welker, and I can see this game, being against an atrocious (sorry Texan fans) secondary, could be his break out game.

Our secondary is fine

…as long as no one is throwing the ball to them.

Chris, you are hilarius !!

“Calmate!!” LOL
Ok!! we are not understimating the texan at all. What we are saying is that our D has STOP!!! Literally 2 of the finnest O in the game , AS AS TODAY!! to an average of 12 point and a little over 200 total ydrs. So, if you beleive that you are going to blow our suckets out , them More power to you guys.
PS, The colts SUCKS BIG time and the Jaguars aren’t that good either. You know what? last year we lost a couple of game for 3 or less, but i will not make you the story cause you don’t want to heart it, so don’t tell my yours either. Like, last year, our record WAS 1-15 and we SUCKS!! RIGHT?, NOW, THIS YEAR, your record is 0-4. If at the end of the game you are full of excuses, them what you got is an L

I hate to be the one to break it to you, but you are arguing with a member of your own fan-base…..not a Texans fan.

And

not a single Texans fan on these boards is making any excuses for the team’s record.

about not making and excuses...

well, that is not totally true.
A comment from tehGrindCrusher
“Discard the W-L for a second, and take a look at recent form. Our defensive effort in the last two games has been pretty good”
That, in my book is an excuse, maybe not on yours.
Another comment, this one made by m1
“all im saying
is we would have beat the colts if sage wasn’t being a homer”
That, again, in my book sounds like an excuse, but then again i may be wrong. I will not keep this cause i think the point was taken.

Anyway, let the best team win this weekend, and please no more excuses after the game. Good luck!! and lets pray, nobody gets hurt on the field.

Maybe you don't understand

…what an excuse is.

An excuse is something like, “we would have won if the wind wasn’t blowing so hard” or “we would have won if the refs were fair” or “we would have won if the dog hadn’t eaten the playbook” or something like that.

I’ve never made an excuse for how the Texans played. What I was pointing out is that the Texans played well and still found a way to lose. If you’d watched their last two games, you might agree with that analysis. Me pointing out that the Texans have played pretty well defensively is analysis, not an excuse.

There’s no excuse for what Sage did, but pointing that the Texans were ahead by 17 points with 5 minutes left in the game until Sage made two very poor choices with the ball (i.e. was a homer) is objective reality, not an excuse. Are you familiar with what happened on Sunday? If not, head over to NFL.com and check the highlights of the game and you’ll see that

by tehGrindCrusher on Oct 7, 2008 7:56 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Nope I saw the the game and all I have to say is

I hope Sage is playing this week. But his QB rating (83.5) is higher than Shaubs (75.5).

by Wade on Oct 7, 2008 8:10 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Again

Go back to my first post in this thread. Our recent form is much better than the record suggests. Admittedly Schaub sucked in the first two games, but his last outing, on the road against Jacksonville, was the best of his career. Sage’s last outing was great until the last three possessions. But he still wasn’t as good as Schaub.

Don’t get me wrong — I think Sage is as good a backup qb as there is right now. And I wouldn’t be surprised if Minnesota is wishing they had coughed up a second rounder for him when they had the chance.

But having seen them both play a fair bit, my analysis is that Schaub is the better qb.

In any event, good luck to you all, and may the best team win on Sunday.

QB Rating

And with all these games they’ve played to provide so much data, I’m sure it’s a perfectly valid statistic.

With all the people from the phinsider over here

I was beginning to think I was on the Phinsider. The Texans I believe are an underrated team right now because they have played all above average teams this season, therefore their stats are gonna be skewed. But the Dolphins are on fire right now (with or without the wild cat) and playing as a cohesive mistake free unit and I strongly believe that the phins (based on all of the games Ive watched the last couple weeks with Houston and Miami) are right now the better team.

by Wade on Oct 7, 2008 8:04 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Oddsmakers have the Texans a 3 point favorite

Make of it what you may. Conventional wisdom says the home field is worth 3 points, so the 2 teams must be rated fairly even. Dolphins have been very impressive beating the Pats & Chargers. Texans have been competitive in their last 2 games, even though they lost. True, the Fins D looks to be much better than either the Colts or Jags, but I still see a close game Sunday. An ugly Texans win like we had over Miami is just what this team needs to get back on track.

Texans 20, Miami 19. GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!!

favored 6+ points over Miami. Whats your point?
