Colts 33, Texans 27

If you are the least bit surprised by this, included but not limited to how this game ended, I submit that you are not a fan of the Houston Texans.

If you've got even an ounce of outrage, vent below. I expect that to be the exception, though. If 95% of the Comments aren't along the lines of "I knew it," I'll eat my hat.

headdesk

it’s only tenth game of the season but my desk is in splinters from all the headdesking

by cubic on Nov 16, 2008 3:11 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I knew it, and I'm still mad.

I watched quantum of solace with some friends instead of following the game today. At 2:00 (right when the movie ended), my mom called me and said that it was 23-20 Colts.

I said “It doesn’t matter, we’re going to lose anyway.”

What makes me mad is that they always find a way to give us hope, then yank it away so quickly.

Matt Stafford, Georgia

Stafford seems to be the “most promising pro-style qb” who will be coming out this year. At least that’s what most draft pundits are saying.

Why would you want a QB...

When we’re giving up 29 points per game?

by Nashmeister on Nov 16, 2008 3:33 PM CST up reply actions   1 recs

See: Indianapolis, New England

They’ve both had years where they’re defense was awful (esp. Indianapolis) but their QB has pulled out a win for them. On 4th quarter drives. Our QB’s don’t do that.

AND WHY ISN"T ANYONE SAYING CASSEL?

Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

by ihavethemelody on Nov 17, 2008 11:52 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

New England?

They’ve always had good defenses. You think Matt Cassel is pulling out wins for the Pats? Not exactly.

by Leein3D on Nov 17, 2008 12:37 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yea.

New England won three superbowls because they stacked their defensive line.

The year Indy won it? Here are the scores of their playoff games:

vs. KC: 23-8
vs. Baltimore: 15-6
vs. NE: 38-34

Yea, it’s nice to have a QB for those shoot-outs, but can you imagine us ever winning a game 15-6?

by Nashmeister on Nov 17, 2008 4:38 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I can't imagine

winning a 15-6. But I sure as hell think the Texans win sunday with Peyton. Or with Brady. Or with Kerry Freaking Collins.

As to Cassel pulling out wins: Pass to Randy Moss sunday. Do you trust either of the QB’s to make that pass? I don’t. I trust Sage to throw an intercept or fumble on any game winning drive. I trust Schaub to overthrow someone or pass the ball just shy of the needed yards. And if that happens with Walters or Johnson, maybe they muscle out the extra 2. I don’t trust either of them to win. At least Cassel has shown he can make those kinds of drives. He may not be the answer, but I like him more than I like either of our guys. Oh, and he’s played for a winning team. And been around that. Both things I like.

And in that NE v IND shoot out: How do you think Schaub or Sage does in that game for either team?

Meat? They're made out of Meat? Meat.

by ihavethemelody on Nov 17, 2008 6:02 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Schaub can't lead the team on scoring drives with the game on the line?

What about against Jacksonville and Miami?

QB is among the least of our worries. Cassel might have looked good against whoever the Pats just played, but he looked like dogmeat against SD, for example.

Kerry Collins would probably be every bit as good a qb with the Texans as he is with the Tits (which is above-average but not great). And he’d still be on a losing team because our defense resembles a sieve with extra holes punched in it.

Schaub is better at this point in his career than Warren Moon, and has improved over last year, imo. Based on his progression so far, I fully believe he will be even better next year.

Quarterback simply does not need to be addressed in next year’s draft, unless it is in the later rounds.

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

by tehGrindCrusher on Nov 17, 2008 7:30 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Give Me Schaub

Over Cassel, Kerry Collins, etc. I don’t think we can definitively say that Matt Schaub is the guy to bring a championship to Houston, but I think we’ve seen enough to know he can be just as good as those guys.

By the way:

Tim, please put this on the top of the blog for all opposing fans/bloggers:

“If you’re coming by to wish us a good game, please don’t insult us by calling us a "good team” or a “team with heart” or any such nonsense. We’re a bad team that pretends to be good at times, but only exists to give wins to other teams."

Seriously, I hate that. I know they’re just being nice, but we’re a terrible team, and we have little hope of being good barring some super genius fixing our defense.

You're not terrible

That is not me being nice. If you truly, deeply, righteously sucked, I’d tell you. To your face. In front of your mom. On Thanksgiving. With my pants down.

That said, your team is good. It just hasn’t caught the breaks this year. But you have some good players.

I only got excited twice

The big Kevin Walter catch, and the Slaton 71-yarder, even though I was in the car and couldn’t actually see it.

I did not get excited when we had a chance to win the game with less than 2 minutes left. I simply sat up in my seat to get a closer look at what was sure to be a typical Sage Rosenfails moment. I hate this guy.

by Leein3D on Nov 16, 2008 3:27 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

not only that

but he was a lot closer to defending the pass plays his direction than I’m used to seeing from our LB’s

Healthy and Turnover free 2008-09, and we win 11!

by texanphil on Nov 16, 2008 4:23 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Our defense

needs to fill some holes (FS, SS, DE) but overall we’re just poorly coached on that side of the ball.

So Kubiak needs to grow a pair and fire him now, not at the end of the year. Give Shanahan’s daughter a chance to set up her scheme for our D, and interview after the season.

But the same stuff week after week will empty the stands.

Healthy and Turnover free 2008-09, and we win 11!

I give Sage

About 15% of the blame. The offense acquitted itself pretty well today.

But the defense… oh the defense…

Is Adibi anything other than a huge improvement over Greenwood?

Why do Weaver, Johnson and DelJ Robinson continue to get snaps ahead of Cochran, Bulman and the rotting corpse of my dead grandmother?

Why can’t McNair can Richard Smith now?

And another thing

I know it’s generally thought to be a good idea to move Mario around and play him a lot at LDE on passing downs. But given the way he was completely inside Ugoh’s dome at the end of the first half, it seems that Mario should have continued to play at RDE to take advantage of the fact that Ugoh was one bull-rush short of being committed.

Instead, at least by my count, Mario moved to LDE at the beginning of the 2nd half, completely negating one of our biggest advantages.

Did anyone else pick up on this? Am I missing something?

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

by tehGrindCrusher on Nov 16, 2008 5:55 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yeah, I hit it in my game review

It made no sense – it’s like they were making a D-line adjustment for the sake of it. Mario was KILLING Ugoh. KILLING him.

by HoustonDiehards on Nov 16, 2008 6:00 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I noticed that too

Normally I prefer to move Mario around, but he was punking Tony Ugoh all game long. If that were just about any other quarterback, Mario probably would’ve had several sacks.

by Leein3D on Nov 16, 2008 6:01 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Yup

Last week, when he WASN’T dominating at RDE, we didn’t move him. This week, when he was, we did move him. I swear to God, Richard Smith is trying to make me lose my mind. That’s the only rational explanation.

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Nov 17, 2008 1:41 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I missed most of the game, but was in the car during some of the 3rd quarter

and Andre Ware was all over this same issue midway through the 3rd quarter. Coaches (good coaches) routinely exploit matchups. That’s their job. Bob McNair need look no further for the smoking gun with which to summarily eject Dick Smith.

Please do it now, give Bush the reins for the past 7 games, then call Will Muschamp.

by oiler-texan diehard on Nov 17, 2008 3:25 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I was working on the weekend car

And I heard Andre Ware say the same things on the garage radio RE: Mario tea-bagging Ugoh. Immediately, I knew this could mean only 1 of 2 things.

1. It’s complete bullshit because Andre Ware is a proven moron.
         or
2. Oh shit, Richard Smith is the only person in football who’s actually dumber than Andre Ware.

After hearing Crusher’s description from watching the game, it seems that #2 is the answer.

So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStros!

by Shake on Nov 17, 2008 4:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I missed the tea-bagging reference or I would have run off the road laughing

Andre injecting a little nasty humor into the game. All the more reason not to understand tricky dick moving Mario to the other side. What an idiot. Can’t get rid of him fast enough.

Tim Tim Tim.

Atleast you have the Horns bro. Ya’ll are pretty much guaranteed a BCS appearance this year.

On the upside. You have to love 10/11 players on Offense every down. If it’s not the ballbusting Vonta Leach, Owen Daniels on another crucial 3rd down. Kevin Walter making them pay for Triple Coverage to the other side of the field, or Duane Brown getting his rookie licks in, this offense if fun!

And the defense…well….there’s pieces of greatness. Dunta might have lost a step, but he’s still a significant presence in the secondary. Mario is doin his thang, and the Linebacking Combo looks strong for the future w/ Adibi, Ryans, and Diles (7th ROUNDER! Gotta love it!) . A great young Safety and maybe a respectable corner, and they could be a decent unit.

I hate to be a sunshine pumper, but now I’m kind of looking forward to a new Defensive Coordinator! Imagine…all we need is a coordinator with more awareness than Helen Keller, and we could be in for a helluva season next year!

Some teams play games on Sunday...ours goes to War. Go Texans!!!

I am right there with you. Grew up in the 60's in Baytown, and followed the Oilers even after they moved to Tennessee

couldn’t help myself. I wasn’t going to let Bud Adams steal MY team. Thank God for Mr Bob McNair, because rooting for the Tennessee Oilers was not the same. When they changed their name to the Titans, I could no longer do it. I wish Bob would ask Bottom Line Bud what’s the magic amount of $$$ it will take to purchase the rights to the Oiler name. It would be great to have them and the uniforms back in Houston.

During the game

My fiancee walks out, sees the score, and says, “why aren’t you screaming?” My response to her: “I’ve lost my will.”

It’s sad that when we got the ball back with a chance to drive down for the game winning TD, I had absolutely no faith in Sage.

by Vega on Nov 17, 2008 7:15 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

I should’ve been excited about that last drive, but with Sage at the helm, I knew it would be better for my health to know that he would screw it up somehow—and of course, he did.

My buddy...

was at the house watching the end with me and, when we got the ball back, said “you guys have plenty of time to pull this out!”

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Nov 17, 2008 1:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

After the 2nd completion to Anderson at about the 42, did we not quick set & spike the damn ball.

We still had about 45 seconds and a reasonable chance to pressure the goal line with just one more decent completion. If Kubiak cannot think that quickly, then he must realize that he does not have the IT factor. I guarantee Shanahan’s Broncos would have spiked the ball, completed 1 or 2 more passes and then made 2-3 attempts at the end zone and a win. To see is flame out AGAIN the way we did was just pathetic.

Lemme see Craig Nall, because I have had enough of Sage the TURNOVER machine.

Kubiak

I’ve had about enough of the same interviews and explanations that Kubiak gives us every single monday. I hope he’s more upfront with McNair than this crap:

"We had a good effort.. We came up a couple of plays short, and it’s very disappointing. But we’re going to keep battling. That effort today will win some games in this league."

Screw that. Throw something across the room and threaten to roll some heads.

What I want to see

Fire. I suppose that if he’s diplomatic enough not to show too much on the sideline or in press conferences I just want to know that he’s got it in him. Not the “full metal jacket drill instructor” type coach – more of someone that picks and chooses his moments but has ways to inspire. Out team looks on Sunday like he sounds in his press conferences:

I’m stupid, your’e smart.
I was wrong, you were right.
You’re the best, I’m the worst
Um, you’re good looking, I’m not attractive….
