Live Game Day Thread Quote of the Day
I have a serious suggestion.
Why don’t we just onside kick it every time? Does anyone think it’ll actually make a difference whether they have to drive 75 yards or 45 yards? At least it gives our offense a fighting chance.by Nashmeister on Nov 16, 2008 2:30 PM CST reply 0 recs
Although Sage went Choppa on the would-be game winning drive, this loss can be placed squarely the shoulders of the defense. Their inability to stop the Colts' offensive attack cost the Texans their first win in Indy.

They should just go for it on fourth downs, too
No matter what. The Colts would score on the ensuing drive, anyways, but they would use less time because of the resulting field position, if the Texans turned it over on downs.

I stand by this comment.
Normally I look back at my heat-of-the-game remarks and think they’re a bit ridiculous, but I still think they might as well have done it. And I think somebody like Jack Del Rio would have, right after the Texans scored with about 6 minutes to go. Even if you have a good defense, there are games when offenses just get into the rhythm and it’s gonna go down to whoever has the ball last (unless that team has Rosenfels at QB).
They’ve proven that we can’t get force a turnover, they can’t get a third-down stop, and they’re prone to giving up the big play. I can’t see any harm in at least giving yourselves a chance at an extra possession. And hell, your defense doesn’t get tired out as easily too. Maybe there’s the chance of somebody wandering into a passing lane and breaking up a third-and-long.
Which begs the question, how many defenses genuinely expect the other team to convert a high percentage of 3rd and twelves against them?

Re: Onsides
I figured it was an over-the-top indictment of how poorly the defense was playing.
