Ask Baltimore Beatdown: Questions for the Ravens Blogger
Here we go again, Texans fans. Hopefully, we'll get this one in without Ike getting in our way. Our prayers were with you back then as football was far from a priority when we're talking about lives and livelihoods. But now, are you ready for some football? Feel free to post questions on the progress of my Ravens and I'll stop back all week to post my responses. At the same time, feel free to come by Baltimore Beatdown to check us out and join in our discussions. We may not have a huge population on our blog, but they are loyal and well informed.
Looking forward to it.

Why does {insert the god of your choice here} hate us so much?

scoring on you (that's right)
How the hell did cleveland put up 27 on your D, and how can the Texans do the same? More specifically, what area(s) of the Baltimore D should we attack without mercy?

Abandon the run - now
Don’t even practice it all week, except at the goal line. Pass, pass and then pass some more. Cleveland put up 27, but look at how. the first seven came on a kickoff return, the next pair of FG’s came on short drives after great punt returns. Their Special Teams killed us, as Cribbs had over 150 return yards! Their final two TD’s came on short drives set up by bad coverage on punt returns- again! So there is was.
Did I say pass? Yes, pass.

Rexx more or less has it
20% of your plays should be runs against the Ravens, at most. And those should be half draw plays. I don’t think there’s a single weak spot in the Ravens rush defense.
The pass is a bit different, especially because Samari Rolle is coming back. I expect you’d want to test Samari to see if he’s really ready to play, but he practiced some last week and will likely be fine. This sucks for Owen Daniels, because the Ravens have the option to put Frank Walker on him now, who would usually be lining up outside.
Your RBs can still be a big part of your offense, as the 3-4 is vulnerable to screens, and the Ravens in particular are vulnerable to holes in the zone over the middle. Those are going to be prime RB catching spots. Andre Johnson is obviously going to be huge. I’m not sure how the Ravens will respond to him. They always try to gameplan around the thing they fear most about a team, and I think that’s going to be Andre. Sometimes those gameplans are extremely effective, sometimes not. But I wouldn’t be surprised to see Andre say, doubled up by a huge linebacker in press coverage with a corner playing back. Keeps life interesting.
ST are huge in scoring on the Ravens. Our ST have been mediocre.

attacking the ravens
cleveland put up 27 just like indy put up 31 on us, by going after our secondary. Samari Rolle should be back this week which will make the secondary a little stronger but with or without him your only real chance of scoring points on us is through the air. Running is an absolute waste of time and is nearly impossible. Sage needs to throw overtop our secondary and dont stop attacking. Cleveland messed up last week because they had us on our heels but let up and started going for short yardage gains. Take shots down the field.

I think you should also mention that, that does not always work. I believe Cleveland had ONE first down in the fourth quarter. lol

Cleveland blew thier chance
to put us away. They stubborn tried to develop a running game with a two and then one TD lead. They ran up the middle on first and second down, leaving them in third and long situations throughout the fourth quarter. Braylon Edwards dropped an easy catch thatmight have gone all the way and they just seemed to deflate and fold after that. It was great to silence the obnoxious Cleveland fans.
No one, especially a 120 pound rookie (Slaton) will be able to run on us Sunday as it’s now been 27 straight games since we allowed a 100 yard rusher.
You chance lies on your home field advantage, where you’ve played pretty good, pass the ball all the time, and blitz our rookie QB, to force him to beat you while stacking the line to limit our run game. Do that, and you might take it.

I don’t think you can beat the Ravens. Mason is on fire and has velcro hands. Flacco can’t be shaken. We can run/screen on anyone with 3 different backs. We’re beastly on the D-line and our DB’s are one game better and healthier. Sage had some success this year but he will be shown a whole different level of D play Sunday. Andre will be triple teamed and the only way he gets a ball is if it’s forced. Reed will be deep on him the whole game. I would suggest getting an early lead but Flacco can play from behind. Our Special Teams has something to prove and should be fired up. Ravens 27 Texans 10.

As you can see, Battle Red
we sort of have some rabid, loyal, but outspoken fans from Baltimore Beatdown. raven can be a little over the top, but unfortunately (for Houston), he is usually correct.

If you triple-team Andre
I guarantee we win. It’s not like this offense lacks for weapons.
Yay, sports.

Of course we won't
triple team him, much less double. We’ll probably lean a safety and/or a LB a little in his direction. Houston has a bunch of receiving options other than Johnson. However, they have never been hit as hard as they will Sunday. One good pop over the middle by Ray and they’ll have their elbows up against their bodies when reaching for the ball next time downfield!

I agree with that.
I was just saying that the idea of triple-teaming anyone on this offense is a surefire way to lose.
Prediction: Houston 24, Baltimore 13. Mario with 2.5 sacks.
Yay, sports.

Pittsburgh, Tenn, and Joey Porter beg to differ
Owen Daniels, Andre Johnson, and Kevin Walter aren’t intimidated in the least. I will be sorely upset if Kubes and Shanny run them across the middle as much as they have in other games, but they are not afraid.

When you say "one good pop by Ray"...
All I can think is that I hope he doesn’t get in one of those moods where he stabs one of our players to death.

That's mean and unnecessary
Don’t be “Cleveland” about it!

I’m going to tone down my initial entry because it was a little over the top and I’m new to your site. Towards the end of the week the war paint goes on and I get juiced..and it comes across in the text. No offense…but I kept it in Rexx’s thread.
Ugh..another murder comment…I’m glad a man can clear his name in the courts these days….I didn’t know so many people were at the scene that night. They should have helped the Atlanta DA straighten it all out.

Along with the other well informed Ravens fans, we are not taking the Texans lightly. We’ve all seen what a force Johnson is in this league and how great his hands are. He may be the best WR in the league right now. Owen Daniels is vastly underrated and deserves to go to the Pro Bowl this season. Even without Schaub, you should still be able to move the ball on almost everybody. However, trust me, you haven’t faced a defense like this one, other than the Steelers in game one (remember that one?). Moving the ball between the 20’s is one thing, but the Red Zone is the Ravens Zone. I fully expect your receivers to go over themiddle with confidence, but they will pay the price. At the same time, to expect the Texans to put up 24 on us better include Special Teams returns for TD, because you’re not scoring three TD’s on our defense. Rosenfels may be a service-able QB, but he’s not Schaub or a legit starter in the NFL, and he WILL be running for his life Sunday. If you want my prediction, come to www.BaltimoreBeatdown.com Sunday morning.

I said we’d win by 17 but it was 28…damn it. Sage killed you guys…he’s terrible. You can’t be in the league 8 years and throw those picks..mega blind spots.
