Schaub Named AFC Player of the Week
Ol' Matty Boy's 414 yard, two touchdown performance won the Texans their second consecutive Offensive Player of the Week award. RB Steve Slaton's 186 total yard explosion on Monday Night Football earned him the nod last week. This week, QB Matt Schaub kept the party going with an impressive showing of his own.
Like the Wu said - The Houston Texans ain't nothing to F' with. Yeah - it's like that.

Schaub deserves it--and I kinda thought he would get it.
I have to admit however—I voted about twenty times for Cutler just to make it two in a row for Jay. Denver has been my team since 1960—so I just couldn’t help it.
I did vote for Matt once just so I could say I voted for the one I thought would win.
The best defense is a good defense!
And last week's young players. Yes!

I have a feeling
that Cutler is going to be winning that honor a few more times before he retires.

Crusher---I have a really good feeling for you guys this weekend
I really think you will put the Titans (I now cal them ’soilers’) in their place.

I hope
That you keep being right. You’ve been right so far, even when we have lost hope (for good reason, I might add).
If you thought the Green Bay win was big for us…

I don't think this is the same thing
Fans don’t vote on the AFC POW… if they did – no Texan would ever win because we have probably the second-smallest fan base after the Jaguars. I think you’re talking about the FedEx Air/Ground POW… which is nothing but an irrelevant popularity contest.
If I’m not mistaken – it’s the same award that Steve Slaton won last week… a league award – not a fan vote sponsorship thing. I could be wrong, though.

Yeah it is...
I hate fan voting in any sport. Last week, Slaton was honored as the offensive player of the week, but didn’t get enough fan votes to win rookie of the week.
Fuckin traveshamockery…

From my understanding of it (I'm in New Orleans right now, waiting for exams to end)
it only snowed in a few places, and where it was only a light powdering. Still, pretty strange.

Snow
Yup…it’s a White December 10th. It’s not really sticking, but it’s still snow.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

hell,
now it’s snowing in New Orleans. Crazy times, I’m tellin’ ya.

Actually more than just a light powdering
I’m in Seabrook (southeast of Houston near Galveston Bay) and although it was about 34-35 defgrees when it started snowing it eventually accumulated and we got at least 2 inches. Enough for some good snowballs. That was fun. Could have even made a snowman, saw pics of plent on the morning news today. Took me a while to clean off the car to drive to work.
So much for global warming.

Orakpo in ’09 (to bookend Mario), then Berry in ’10? I vote yes.

You're late to the party BTBD
Matt & I have been discussing the Rak pick for a few months now…..mostly because of how badass it would be to have him on our D, and partially because it pisses off Beef.
by Shake on Dec 11, 2008 8:14 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
As we go along...
the “pissing off beef” part makes the pick even more entertaining than the idea of he and Mario ending Peyton Manning’s life.
My masturbatory draft list is Orakpo, Taylor Mays, or Michael Johnson, in that order.
Yay, sports.
by MDC on Dec 11, 2008 9:27 AM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I'm a Mays guy myself
We need too much help in the secondary… not to say that I’d begrudge the Texans if Orakpo fell to them, I’m just saying that Mays is pretty intriguing. Moore out of Mizzou is also on my watch list…
Then again having a homegrown monster who benches over 500lbs may be too good to pass up…

Boy, does it.
My pick is that Curry OLB from Wake Forest, who is a carbon copy of DeJesus.
That, and he’s not from the team who plays in Rainbow City of the South.

Although...
I would be ok with taking my boy Quan in the 4th, if he makes it that far. Before he left for austin, I wrapped him in a cloak to shield him from the gayness. So far, it’s held up masterfully.

Quan and Shipley
I’m very intrigued to see what kind of careers those two are going to have in the league. I think both have the makings of excellent slot receivers, though I don’t know if either will be drafted.

Quan
The sad thing is that he was even better at defense in HS, than he was with the ball in his hands. Y’all haven’t even gotten to see that part of him. I can’t wait to see him covering kicks in the pros. Shipley can blow me, and probably wants to.

Wasn't Quan A QB In HS?
I seem to remember that was his original position, but the Horns moved him to WR. How did he look at QB, and what position did he play on D?
Shipley’s a stud. Had he gone to College Station, he probably would have saved Fran’s job, and everything would be stellar in Aggy Land (read: 7-8 wins, just like good ol’ R.C. used to deliver).

He was a qb and FS...
QBing was so-so, but he was so elusive and flat-out fast that he took the state crown in 2a (he prolly should’ve been a WR from the get go, but how can you not put the ball in his hands every play?), but on D… Dude could cover sideline to sideline and flat knock the fuck out of anyone, at the line of scrimmage, no less. It was amazing to watch, not unlike Derrick Johnson when he was at Waco High.
As for Shipley in CS, oddly enough, WR’s (for some unknown reason) haven’t been the issue. We’ve gotten some pretty good ones during his time. The main issue was on D, Stewart deciding he’d just prefer to be a running back vs. throw the ball, very poor talent overall, and no heart. Slocum left the cupboard completely bare, which not many people realize. Yes, his mediocrity was ok, but that was the best we were ever going to get from him. Now, had Shipley been able to throw the ball to himself, block, and play 6 positions worth of defense, you might be right. Though, I’m sure you’ll claim this is what he does on a weekly basis.
Over. Rated. Billy Pittman was twice the WR Shipley is.

Billy Pittman
Was an absolute revelation during his sophomore year as VY’s go-to WR, and then disappeared. I seem to remember he got nicked up a bit and never really rebounded after his suspension at the beginning of last season.

The only reason I'm not pimping Curry...
is I think he’s probably a top 5 pick. He’s a fucking badass, though.
Yay, sports.
