Texans 13, Titans 12

Fourth win in a row. For the first time in franchise history.

As time expired and Reliant was rocking, I'd like to think Bud Adams looked like Longshanks at the end of Braveheart. FREEEEEEEEDOMMMM!

Indeed, sir.

FREEEEEEDOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOMMM!!!!!!!!

That felt good. Man, I’m just so freaking happy. Holy shit, we beat the Titans. We have won 4 in a row.

We still aren’t going to the playoffs. /cries

Okay, I’m over that and back to being happy.

We have a real chance to go 9-7. Let’s pray for no letdown in Oakland.

Is it a stretch to say...

That DelJuan Robinson just played the best game a Texans DT has ever played in franchise history?

by Nashmeister on Dec 14, 2008 5:16 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

i would agree fully

i only wish he was always like that. but even so, he definitely gets a game ball

I gave him the defensive player of the game on my site.

He was unreal. Just awesome, awesome, awesome.

Wow

the Texans limited the Titans to only 100 yds total rushing. And the Titans didn’t score a single TD. The defense REALLY stepped up for this game.

Once again...

Richard Smith you still deserve to be fired. You’re not fooling anyone (I hope).

by DisplacedTexan on Dec 14, 2008 5:24 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree.

However, he does deserve some credit for the last three games. It’s not like our players have all just rebelled against him and started playing good defense against his wishes.

That said, anybody who needs 11 weeks to figure out what fans have been preaching for the past year and a half is clearly an assbag. So while I appreciate that he has cut down on my suffering for the past three weeks, he still deserves to be jobless next year.

It's hard to figure out who I have a bigger mancrush on

Andre Johnson or Steve Slaton.

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

What about Mario?

There’s a lot of man-love to be dished out to this team.

Fair point

And DeMeco too, obviously.

Rushing stats

Titans have allowed only one player to rush for 100+ yards this season.

Steve Slaton, twice.

We need to burn a couch.

In his honor.

Really that’s a hillbillie beat-down. West “Fucking” Virginia in the house!

I just looked at the Johnson 65-yard pass play again

He dragged is defender a full 15 yards on that play, after he made the catch.

Un. Mother. Fucking. Be. Lieve. Able.

I'm also re-watching some plays

My god – the 34 yarder by Slaton on the final drive – if you haven’t re-watched it yet, you need to. The amount of body-control Slaton shows is incredible. He was DOWN… I mean, he was down… there was no way he was going to keep going, and he just kept his feet under him and BOOM.

That was nothing short of remarkable

Just like quite a few of Slaton’s carries. Equally remarkable were Keith Bulluck’s douchebag comments after the game.

Suck it, asswipes.

I went back and looked at the Slaton highlights

That run in the 4th quarter was amazing. But what really stands out to me, and what says so much about this Texans team is that run in the first half where he got close to a first down after getting met by half of the Tennessee defense about three yards in. Slaton didn’t give up, his entire team got behind him, and they physically moved the pile to almost the first down marker. Unbelievable how much heart and desire this team has.

Makes me proud.

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

by kozanack on Dec 14, 2008 7:28 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I would say that 40+ yards on the final drive of the game with less than two minutes on the clock……… is hurtful to the opposing team.

Maybe we don’t know the rules? Do rushing stats not count in the final two minutes? Oh wait, they do.

Did Slaton accomplish the long run in garbage time? No, he did not.

Fuck you, Bulluck. You look like a fucking retarded ninja turtle.

Anything you do in a 1 point game is important

A strong Titans defensive effort might have gotten the ball back. Apparently, they decided to give up. In contrast, the Texans players played hard from the kickoff, which paid off in the end.

by Only_A_Lad on Dec 14, 2008 7:38 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

"Slaton didn’t do anything," Titans outside linebacker Keith Bulluck said. "Slaton busted that run (34 yards) at the end of the game, and we pretty much had him in check. To tell you the truth, I don’t think their running game hurt us at all today."

Andre Johnson

AJ had a dominating performance. So, I wondered, how close is he to an NFL record? It turns out, not as far as you might think:

AJ:
1408 receiving yards for season

NFL Record
1848 receiving yards for season

How close can AJ get to the NFL record?

Despite the good feelings

it still needs to be said that Kubes does NOT understand clock management or what it means to challenge a call correctly. I’m glad we won, but those 3rd and 17 little check downs NEED TO STOP as well. We won this game, but the BESF’s made it a little easier than it should have been.

A Theory On Challenges

I think that many challenges are made strictly to get an extra-long time out. Or, if you’re going to take a time-out anyway, why not challenge. It doesn’t hurt anything, even if you lose.

by kozanack on Dec 14, 2008 10:31 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I agree except

this is probably the only situation I’d disagree with this challenge. Its a 1 point game with ~ 4 mins left.
Theres a better than average chance we’ll need the TO. Get good intel from the dudes upstairs, and protect the timeout.

This was a game changing play in our favor, and what the hell, take a shot. Huge upside. EXCEPT in this situation.

Please draft some defensive stars for the next DC.

Our little team...

is getting BIG quickly, let’s focus on 9-7 and a six game winning streak.

On the non-FG attempt, I’m convinced that Fisher wanted to smack us in the face and score a touchdown…….. NOT IN OUR HOUSE BIOTCH!

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!

by Texanmaniac on Dec 15, 2008 5:11 AM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think

he probably looked at the numbers, saw that the Texans had only stopped teams going for it on 4th down twice (I think), and figured that there was a good chance that the Texans would be able to march down the field and score another FG relatively easily. Maybe he saw the Dolphins or Packers game and thought Schaub could do it again. Maybe he thought that, even if he missed it, his defense could get the ball back fairly quickly.

Unfortunately for him, Collins overthrew his receiver and his defense decided to give up on stopping Slaton, so he never got the ball back.

by Only_A_Lad on Dec 15, 2008 5:52 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

now...

don’t go making sense. You are correct, a field goal at that time would have left plenty of time for Schaub to work his magic.

Congrats on the win!

I was almost as excited for your win as I was for ours!

I hope you do go 9-7 and leave Jax in the basement this year…especially since they were the best team in the AFC before the season….bwahahahahah.

Great game you guys--I just wish my Broncos had a game plan.

The Carolina thing was ugly—and I have know clue what happened. I am very glad that we are not playing you the next two weeks….very glad. This is almost a shame—but we might make it in the playoffs at 8 and 8—how discusting. You guys are going to finish at 9-7 and next year be in the playoffs. I hope we shake this really ugly injury bug we’ve had the last two years.

Anyway, Great Game you guys! I’ll try to stop in next week.

The best defense is a good defense!
And last week's young players. Yes!

I'm gonna try my darndest to go to the Chicago Game

What does everybody think the atmosphere will be like if we really do go 9-7? My guess is it will be ALMOST as good as MNF.

They have a terrible pass defense by the way, so I’m predicting we roll.

Some teams play games on Sunday...ours goes to War. Go Texans!!!

Schaub

We all know that the new #8 is light years better than the old #8… but winning the last game of the season, not for the playoffs, but for his fans – would go a long way. Carr had a chance back when to go 8-8… which at the the time, would have been the second best feel good game for the franchise (1st win vs Dallas will only be topped by winning the Superbowl – believe that) . Mittens had it in the palm of his hand, and he blew it. If the Texans make short work of the Raiders, which they should, it would set up a similar scenario, but now with a winning record on the line. I have supreme confidence in ol’ Matty Boy. The Texans are real close to being slightly better than mediocre… and I’m all giddy and shit.

wins and losses are the key, I admit

but after an 0-4 start, this team is FAR better than mediocre.

A 9-7 record this year, especially with our expectations going into the season, would have been a disappointment, but right now, after looking at 3-7 a few weeks back, and this season is a huge success.

I think we’re playing to the potential we showed entering the season, we just needed an 8 week pre season.

Please draft some defensive stars for the next DC.
