Texans 31, Bears 24:  Rejoice!

Fresh off a rousing win over the Bears to close out the 2008 season, your Houston Texans are again 8-8.  Not the winning season we had hoped for, but not the dismal season we all envisioned after that 0-4 start.  Starting the game down ten and then rallying to win says a lot about the boys in deep steel blue. Bottom line is that we won.  And going 8-8 is a helluva lot better than 7-9 no matter how you slice it.  So feel free to express yourselves to the fullest in the Comments down below.

is legit.

Our offense is elite. Our defense is massively subpar.

When can we start interviewing defensive coordinators? I don’t want to start wildly prognosticating about the future until we get that settled.

I think you have a good defense--much better than the Broncos--you held the Titans to field goals

I just don’t like the way you go into ‘prevent’ so quickly. You have a good defense if you keep the preasure on. That smells of coaching philosophy problems—not bad defense problems..

The best defense is a good offense!

I agree

We have average defensive talent (and in a few places, a few stars) but we have a below-average defense.

Therefore, the problem has to be the coordinator.

We have the same problem in Denver

We get a couple scores ahead and go into the wierd, “Prevent a Win” mode. That’s what happened against Buffalo last week—and why we’re not resting our starters tonight—and may not make the playoffs.

The best defense is a good offense!

Also of interest

Philly is currently abusing Dallas. Happy New Year.

Seconded

Look forward to hearing from you as we gear up for the draft.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

about the game

pretty much sums up our year: bad start, good solid finish.

We had a great year if you don’t count weeks 1-4. And in week 4, if you don’t count the last 4 mins.

The first, obvious change is DC. Fire him, then hire the RIGHT guy.

Now who is that guy? I have heard much talk about ditching RS, but who is a good replacement?

Please draft some defensive stars for the next DC.

by texanphil on Dec 28, 2008 7:14 PM CST reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think that will be based on which coaches are fired.

Unfortunately it seems (without digging into things too much) that a lot of them will be 3-4 guys.

No, Thank You

For knocking Dallas out of the playoffs. I loved every second of that.

that was almost

more pleasurable than our game.

Because it meant so much to them.

I think I speak for all Texans fans

When I say that we appreciate everything you guys have done for football in this state with your victory today.

Thanks a bunch for destroying a little bit of the small part of Jerry Jones’ soul that still exists. Congrats, and good luck in the playoffs.

glass half FULL!

A friend of mine put it eloquently: no longer are we a team striving for 8-8, but a team who underachieves at 8-8. That is a big step for us. We don’t have any issues that can’t be corrected with time. The skill positions are filled with serious talent, YOUNG talent. We are a free agent or two away from being a serious contender. Title contender that is! The window is open for us. START THE 09 SEASON!

And you guys

were right about that whole Reggie Bush thing. Glad Williams made the Pro Bowl this year. He deserved it last year too!

thanks guys!!!

I honestly believed in you guys winning this game, it was the raiders i wasn’t so sure about.

Houston will have a good team in a few years (maybe even next year), matt shaub and andre johnson are awesome

hope you guys enjoyed what we did to the cowboys as much as we did, i still have adrenaline rushing through me
hope we got your support in the playoffs too :)

You're playing the Vikings

Who have Jared Allen – who ended our playoff hopes by intentionally hurting our QB… so safe to say – yes, you have our support.

Still going to be a very long off-season!

As we celebrate a good win to bring this team to a 8-8 season, this will still be a long off-season for the Texans. I think for the first time in our team history we did not a significant injury to our offensive or defensive line, but the texans were only 8-8. When I look at the AFC conference as a whole, this is a tough conference to make the playoffs. the 11-5 Patriots are at home watching the chase for the championship. In our on division, the texans or going to have to win 12-13 games to compete for a division title. So rejoice Texans fans, but remember going from 8 wins to 12 wins makes for a very long off-seasons. Go Texans

honestly

as an eagles fan, who has no biased feelings towards the texans, YOUR houston texans looked really good in the last few weeks.

this team will be good, i hope we dont play your division next year its scary

You don't

AFC South vs NFC West. (good for us… bad for the NFC West)

Well Said

There’s work to be done to get over the hump. Still, I feel better about the Texans going into the offseason than I ever have. I think we have less question marks than we’ve ever had.

That’s not enough to start printing playoff tickets, mind you. It is a world of difference from where we’ve been.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

by Tim on Dec 29, 2008 8:09 AM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

So, how soon...

Can we say goodbye to Travis Johnson, Morlon Greenwood, and Anthony Weaver? When guys like Jesse Nading, DelJuan Robinson, and Kevin Bently FAR outshine those three, I think it’s pretty clear they need to be shown the door Smith will soon be walking through.

I guess it depends on what their cap hits will be

Also – don’t forget to include Will Demps. He’s by FAR the highest paid safety on the team, and he wasn’t even active a few times… when he was, Dominique Barber was the last safety in the rotation, and Demps was on special teams. He’s gone with the wind.

Oh...

Word on Demps. Guy filled in admirably last year, then decided not to show up this season. Gone.
I’ve been truly impressed with Eugene Wilson and Nick Ferguson. Goes to show what kind of D we’d have with real safety help. (in no way was that comment intended to be a compliment for Smith)

Bacon tastes good... Pork chops taste good.

First things first.

Let’s can Richie Smith and get a new d-coordinator. Then we can trim the deadwood off the playing staff.

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

I like that order, also.

Maybe we had talent that was wasted. Maybe they weren’t motivated to play under RS, or RS was responsible for them being out of position.

DC first, see where we’re at with the new talent evaluator.

Please draft some defensive stars for the next DC.

by texanphil on Dec 29, 2008 4:21 PM CST to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Unlike a certain other Texas team

The Texans finished strong and showed they have a solid foundation for next year and beyond. It takes some heart and determination to beat a team playing for its life and our team did just that.

Before you criticize someone, walk a mile in their shoes. If they get mad, you're a mile away AND you have their shoes.
