Around SBN: Kobe Bryant Isn't Up To Speed On Jeremy Lin, 'Linning'

Kubiak Presser

I just watched the season ending press conference by the HC, and there were a couple big points.

1. Non-committal on RS, he said he evaluated players today.  Tonight he has a meeting with McNair, and tomorrow he evaluates the coaching staff.  Maybe new year, new DC?

Also Gibbs is so old he needs a couple months off.  He's worn out, and he'll evaluate if he wants to come back in mid-February.

2. Kyle called the game yesterday... for the first time all year.  He has called plays, but this was his first NFL game he called from start to finish.  So all praise for Kyle should be withheld until next year (gasp) as this season's stellar offense can only be attributed to Kubiak and Gibbs.

Needs to call the plays a bit more often. I especially liked the novel concept of throwing a (gasp!) fade route to AJ in the end zone.

Re: Fade

Man, ain’t that the truth. Why the fade to ‘Dre in the corner of the end zone isn’t the default call in the red zone, I will never know.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Yeah!

When I saw the fade called, I thought that was really strange. It’s something we should do often, but hardly ever do with AJ… so it doesn’t surprise me that someone else made that call.

I honestly believe

That we could tell the other team that we were going to throw a fade to #80 in the endzone, have them line up their entire team there, and AJ would still come down with the ball. It has to be pretty much unstoppable.

In other words, we should do it more often.

That fade pass to Andre was a 50-50 ball

Bears CB Charles Tillman saw the play clearly, had both hands on the ball, but so did #80. We all know who won the battle. I rewatched the game after I got home and as the Fox announcer put it “Ain’t no single man coverage, Charles Tillman or anyone else gonna stop Andre Johnson one on one”. Apparently lil’ Shanny knows that better than Kubes. We should be seeing much more of that in the future.

It might be 50-50 for a mere mortal

But for AJ, he’s going to come down with the ball 157% of the time. That’s right, he’s going to catch more balls than are thrown to him.

Because he can.

Not sure about your math but I get the point

and I could not agree more. A 50-50 ball to Andre and any starting CB in the NFL is an 80-20 ball for Andre. If he maintains his health he has the ability to surpass the current greatest receiver of all time, Jerry Rice.

Dre is magical.

and the slants

did we miss on a slant yesterday? I think we were perfect.

Watching the game, I did notice the differences, now I know why.

And it was kinda refreshing. We did throw (long) on 3rd and 1. But at least the play babyShan called worked, so he’s got that going for him.

AJ showed that he’s gonna go get the ball on a fade, I’m sure they were worried before. Yeah right. Its obvious what we shoulda done all year. Take notes, Kubes.

Please draft some defensive stars for the next DC.

I'm glad...

They finally remember a fella wearing #80, That kid may be good one day.

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!

Long on 3rd and 1

I don’t think that was necessarily designed. Obviously Andre Davis’ route was supposed to go that far. but Schaub also had some shorter, safer options. He just saw fit to squeeze the ball into a really tight window. This time, it paid off.
