Ask Acme Packing Company About The Packers

Hi, I'm Brandon from the SB Nation website, Acme Packing Company. Do you have any questions about the Packers?

It's been a rough last two weeks for them. Their defense allowed 86 points (both losses) to New Orleans and Carolina. Luckily they don't have any more games against the NFC South.

The run defense has been awful all season long, but the pass defense has been outstanding. Until the last two weeks. A big reason for the pass defense's decline is that all five players listed at safety on the roster are all battling injuries.

The offense is playing very good. QB Aaron Rodgers torched an excellent Carolina pass defense last week. RB Ryan Grant sat out the 2nd half last week with a thumb injury, but his backup, RB Brandon Jackson, has been playing great all season.

I've always been fond of the Texans as a destination for so many ex-Packers. First came ex-Head Coach Mike Sherman. RB Samkon Gado has come and gone. But the contract of RB Ahman Green still remains. FB Vonta Leach and QB Craig Nall are ex-Packers too. And it looks like the Packers' 2007 7th round draft choice, TE Clark Harris, is your new long snapper.

Don't know much about the Packers

So some of these questions may be obvious.

First, what does the average Green Bay fan think of Aaron Rodgers? Who are his favorite targets? Who is going to abuse Jacques Reeves?

On the o-line, who is going to take the responsibility for stopping Mario Williams?

On offense, Steve Slaton is turning in to a very good back. What can we expect to see the Packers do to contain him?

When I'm on the mic, I'm like global warming, you can't ignore me.

That's ok

I don’t know much about the Texans.

I still haven’t heard from a Packer fan that doesn’t like Rodgers. Many wanted to keep Favre over Rodgers, but not because they disliked Rodgers. It’s been all about WR Greg Jennings this season. He got off to a hot start, but cooled off somewhat (3-100 yard games in the first 4 weeks, only one since). A lot of passes to WR Donald Driver. TE Donald Lee is 3rd on the team in receptions, but is strictly a check down machine. Lots of passes to Jennings and Driver, checkdowns to Lee, and the occasional pass to another receiver.

LT Chad Clifton will get the call. He’s very good, but battled some injuries this season. DE Julius Peppers had 2 sacks against him last week, but Clifton contained him most of the game. It was a quiet 2 sack game, if that’s possible.

If the Packers can break Slaton’s leg early in the game, I expect the Packers will hold him to under 100 yards rushing. Otherwise, I expect Slaton to run for 4 TDs, 150 yards, or both.

Thanks for stopping by.

Who do you think matches up against Andre Johnson? Woodson? Do you expect to roll help that direction and put an extra man on him?

How has Kampman been playing this season? Do you expect him to give Brown trouble? Do you guys move him around a lot?

Is it possible you could NOT throw into our secondary? Please? Pretty please?

by DisplacedTexan on Dec 3, 2008 10:06 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Woodson's gonna be on Andre Johnson if we don't play him at Safety

We will probably be putting Nick Collins over the top of Woodson in our Cloud coverage. It worked real well against Reggie Wayne.

Kampmans been good, but not as good as the last two years. Losing Cullen Jenkins for the year really hurt him. Kampman plays the left side alot as he’s not a natural pass rusher and plays run and pass 50-50. He’ll be matched up with Eric Winston alot.

Sorry, Jacques Reeves is too tempting.

Maybe in order to understand mankind, we have to look at the word itself: "Mankind". Basically, it's made up of two separate words—"mank" and "ind". What do these words mean? It's a mystery, and that's why so is mankind.

That's good for us

Because I think Winston might be our best o-lineman.

Defense, straight up

The Packers don’t move around a lot on defense. It depends on what side Johnson lines up on. Usually Woodson is on the strong side and Harris on the weak side. Although Jobe mentioned the success of the Cloud coverage, it didn’t work last week against WR Steve Smith (Carolina version). There have been a lot of injuries at safety, as Jobe mentioned above Woodson played some at safety. Last week was an odd week for the secondary due to the injuries.

Kampman will go right at Winston. He doesn’t do a lot of stunts, zone blitzes, or anything else unusual. He has been by far the best defensive lineman this season, although other than the injured Cullen Jenkins, he’s had no real competition for the title.

Help

Can you please tell Mark Chmura once and for all that my little sister doesn’t have a hot tub? Also, what’s it feel like to have the only fan base obeser than ours? Thanks.

Re: Ryan Grant's thumb...

Status for Sunday?

And beware: Texans play well, even though it’s ugly as sin, in cold weather (knock on wood).

No idea

He’s on the injury list, but as full participation. Which isn’t a big surprise since I’m sure he can run around just fine with a thumb injury. But can he hold onto the ball?

Actually it’s worse news for you if Grant can’t play. His backup, RB Brandon Jackson, has outplayed him this season.

Runing game

What kind of teams have the Packers been gashed by in the running game?

Have there been any receivers that burned the Packers?

How is the Packers running game? I know the passing game is pretty good, but I don’t know what to think about Ryan Grant and Brandon Jackson.

by b0ng on Dec 3, 2008 9:48 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Running, running, running...

The only times this season teams haven’t ran well on the Packers was when they fell behind big and had to stop running the ball. Everyone’s run well against the Packers this season.

Four receivers, two in the last two weeks, have 100 yard games against the Packers (Dallas’s WR Miles Austin, Atlanta’s WR Roddy White, New Orleans’s WR Lance Moore, and Carolina’s WR Steve Smith). That’s a mixed bag of receivers. Both White and Smith had 100 yard halves against the Packers, but were shut out (0 yards) in the other half. I have no idea what to make of that random collection of stats. Overall the secondary hasn’t been burned a lot this season.

Jackson has been great all season long and I have no idea why he hasn’t had more touches. Grant was awful early while he played through a hamstring injury, and has been much better over the past several weeks. Grant is still a long way from his outstanding 2007 season.

Why, pray tell...

Why did you guys let Ahman Green get away from you? Guy’s a beast!

Let me throw a question right back at you:

Any opinions on our former head coach who coached your O-Line? If becoming a position coach and NOT a coordinator after being fired as a head coach is not a sign of an underqualified head coach, I don’t what is.

Sherman

He seemed to have a positive effect on the franchise for the year he was here. Kubes trusted him, and there’s no doubt our OL improved under his guidance. Really, I’d say the biggest negative about Sherman was that he pushed for us to sign Ahman Green, and I think that was a justifiable (though risky) decision at the time.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

re: Shermanator

Concur with Tim. I had no problems at all with Sherman during his time here, other than the Ahman deal. I’m an Aggie, so I’m also tied to him on that deal, so he sure as hell better be all we thought he was.
As for him being underqualified and run out of Packer-land… I think Thompson was your problem during that run. Y’all screwed him over for no reason, it seemed from the outside. I don’t know why anyone was shocked that he almost pulled a screw-over of herculean proportions on the Favre/Rodgers deal. Lucky for y’all that Rodgers is good, but still vast amounts of egg on his face for that hard-headedness.
I like the Pack, but fuck that dude.

Politely disagree with you about Ted Thompson

He has been a very good exec in his years here. Not only did he completely stabilize the cap situation(we are now one of the annual leaders in cap room every year) but he just picked great players. To get four starters out of one draft, the 2006 one, where we picked AJ Hawk, Greg Jennings, Darryn Colledge, and Johnny Jolly to me was very impressive. Don’t forget that we went to the NFC Championship game last year with the youngest team in football.

With him at the helm, I think we’ve become a good football organization with good football people.

Teddy

NFC Championship game last year WITH BRETT EFFING FAVRE. Thompson’s pompous ass ran Favre out of town because he didn’t jive with his ego, and now look where you are, when no other part of your team has changed. Had you guys won 13 games AGAIN and gotten to the Championship game AGAIN, then his, oh so shrewd move could be tolerated, but that ain’t gonna happen, boss. Tell me I’m wrong.
I’m not trying to be confrontational, but that dude is a fuggin cancer. All front office execs and owners that have ego issues and power-trip tend to destroy otherwise good football teams. Look what happened in San Diego with that dickhead who ran Marty out. The same in Oakland with Al Davis. Some may say that Dallas is the exception, but Jerry is sometimes as big a part of the problem as he is the answer. Washington Redskins with Snyder, anyone?
I know you’ve gotta toe the company line, but step back and tell me that guys not a ginormous douchebag.

I’m kidding. I like the way you think, Mr. Jobe. There are a few Titans trolls I wish shared your beliefs in handling disagreement.
