That clutch performance by Schaub is what we will learn to expect
not be surprised by. Reduce the silly mistakes, and this is a double digit victory.

To be honest
I had no doubt that Schaub would take us there. I just know he’s got it.

I want to say it again
Anyone who thinks, after today, Miami or Jacksonville away, that Matt Schaub can’t take this team to the Super Bowl is plain and simply smoking crack.
I can’t stress this enough.

And let's be honest
As much as our turnovers almost cost us the game, our D stepped up when they really had to.
Hats off to them.
But Richard Smith still needs to go.

Has anyone realized
that this win puts the Texans in just their second 3-game win streak ever? Amazing! And the three teams were all teams people thought would at least make the playoffs – this isn’t simply the Texans taking down the Dolphins, Lions, and Bengals. And they have the opportunity – unlikely, but an opportunity none the less – to get a fourth win against the shit fuckers.

I sense a theme
the defense plays well, we win.
What changed lately? The pressure(blitzing) is obvious. Anything else?
I see Frenchy knocking balls down, plural, ballS each game, and with his arms. He’s still looking like the worst DB in the league on some plays, but I see more good plays lately than bad.
Oh and Dunta is back. I think the D got its identity back when he returned. And their swagger.
So the Dunta extension is the key, Rick. Do the deal tonight. On the plane.
Please draft some defensive stars for the next DC.

If the Texans fail to lock up Dunta, it will be a PR nightmare that will take years to recover from
That has to be priority #1 for Rick Smith. The improvement in the defense since Dunta stepped on the field October 19th in the Detroit game is real. The W-L record since then is 5-3. Check out the vid of the player intros at the Detroit game, it still gives me goosebumps to hear the crowd explode for Dunta:

For me
The easiest way to distiniguish proper Guinness from the stuff they ship overseas (besides the taste, obv) is the fact that when you finish your pint, the clover in the head is still visible at the bottom of the glass. The further you get away from Dublin, the less likely that is to happen.
Yummy.

Clover Glass - nooooooooooo
Common mistake, this is a tourist thing.
If i put a clover on a guys drink in my local – i used to work in a bar after school – you would get a smack in the head.
Guinness should have a lovely smooth finish on top and a perfect head.
Next time you are here tell the bar man that you want “a real pint none of that tourist shite” – exact words :)

“The one thing I hate about Guinness abroad is the stoopid fucking shamrock the put in the top of the pint. It drives me mad. The next foreign cunt of a barman that does that is getting a size 8 (42 ya European twat) boot in the mouth … unless the barman is a barmaid … Scandanavian women … sigh”

Guinness - wikipedia is cool, if they dont do this tell them to take it back.
Pouring and serving
Guinness Draught in “Tulip” shaped glassWhat Diageo calls the “perfect pint” of Draught Guinness is the product of a lengthy “double pour”, which according to the company should take 119.5 seconds.32 Guinness has promoted this wait with advertising campaigns such as “good things come to those who wait”. Draught Guinness should be served at 6°C (42.8°F)33, while Extra Cold Guinness should be served at 3.5°C (38.6°F)34.
Ideally a pint of Guinness should be served in a slightly tulip shaped pint glass as opposed to the taller European tulip glass or ‘Nonic’ glass which contains a ridge approx 3/4 of the way up the glass. On the way to the tap, the beer is passed through a chiller and is forced through a five-hole disc restrictor plate in the end of the tap, which increases the fluid pressure and friction, forcing the creation of small bubbles which form a creamy head. The glass is then rested until the initial pour settles, and the remainder of the glass is then filled with a slow pour until the head forms a slight dome over the top of the glass.35 Some bartenders also draw a simple design, using the flow of Guinness from the head of the tap, such as a shamrock in the head during the slow pour, although this is considered to spoil the drink by most purist customers.
This tradition comes from when Guinness was served from the cask, and initially older beer was poured into a glass until it was 3/4 full, then left to stand. When ordered by the customer, the glass was topped up from younger, gassier beer, producing the traditional head. As the beer is no longer blended from different ages of beer, the double pour is no longer required for the mixing of beers but is still maintained as it produces a better pint as the head does not over fill the glass and need to be discarded.

Why did I have a feeling I was going to show myself to be a total n00b
When I wrote that Guinness comment? I suppose you could argue that my point was that the consistency of the head (and therefore the quality of the beer) was better and the clover leaf was just proof of that.
But the truth is I’ve only ever been to Ireland as a tourist n00b, so the shoe fits. It would be like someone going over to DGDB&D and talking about how they’ve been to Memphis and think it has the best barbeque in the world. Lol.
Man, all this thinking of Guinness is making me want to drink one right now.

I was going to say KC
But I figured I’d go with someplace in TN, and Memphis seems to be a function of hype as much as quality.
It also annoys me when you hear people claim KC barbecue is the best in the world because of the sauce. I believe that sauce is a complement to, not prerequisite for, good barbecue.

that was not the first time this year he had a punt almost blocked that turned into a run. The last time was in the Broncos preseason game, though he was a yard or two short, IIRC.

I think he grew about two weeks worth of facial hair in that 4th quarter. He was looking a little bit scruffy in the 4th quarter.

Yes the 2 pointer and the TD to AJ on the previous plays were both fabulous throws.
The TD was particularly difficult because Schaub was rolling to his left and had to make an awkward throw to the left corner of the end zone. He zipped it in there nicely showing good arm strength and accuracy. AJ ran a great route and had a relatively easy sliding catch.
The 2 pointer was also a gem. As the play developed it appeared that everyone was covered and he would just have to throw the ball away. I read in the Chron that Slaton was the target, but missed the call due to the crowd noise and ran the wrong route. AJ covered for him and made an improvised run for the right sideline. Schaub waited until the last possible instant and made another superb throw, with AJ making a clutch catch and an expert toe drag to get both feet down.
McCarthy did his best Kubiak impersonation by making a useless challenge when the TV replay had already clearly shown turf flying up from AJ’s right toe drag.
Schaub showed decent mobility, arm strength, timing, accuracy and nerve on both of those plays. He really played like a champion on that closing drive.

I was there!
I was sitting on the 50 yardline, 50 rows up. It was a heck of a Lambeau experience: cold, freezing, awesome. Packers fans were not happy post-game.
The team showed some amazing heart. There were multiple plays (key example: 3rd and 12 on our 5 or 6), where Slaton and or other guys just willed themselves to first downs. They wanted this game, bad.
Matt Schaub is a heck of a quarterback. If he can stop throwing some amazingly stupid passes (the interception was not actually one of them, that was just a great play), he will be a top-tier quarterback.
Our defense really came up with some stops. Williams had no sacks, but there were three plays that he got a hand on Rodgers, and it screwed up the play. And Ryans’ sack in the end of the game…wow.
Also, personal confession: I was giddy whenever Vonta Leach got the ball. He’s a wrecking ball. XD
So, yeah, I was pumped up and on cloud nine after the game. This team is starting to show that it is a legitimate contender, and I am cheering for a 9-7 season, which I fully believe will be a stepping stone to the playoffs, and will for sure get us another Monday NIght game.

What a great experience that must have been
I’d rather not freeze my ass off, but watching a Packer game at Lambeau has to be one of the greatest NFL experiences possible. It and Chicago’s Soldier field are the 2 stadiums that are meccas for the league. All of the other old stadiums have been demolished (or abandoned) and replaced with new venues. Old stadiums have a certain charm to them. I’ve never been but I have heard that the GB fans are classy. Was this the case yesterday?

Some love for the Turk
I’m going to give a special shout-out to Matt Turk, who created what has now become my favorite Texans play of all time. If his punt run isn’t the most “Texansy” play you’ve ever seen, I don’t know what is.
http://www.nfl.com/videos?videoId=09000d5d80d251b1
Seriously watch that and tell me it doesn’t make you giddy.
But to follow that up with his role as disciplinarian by holding back Vonta “Coke Machine” Leach after his monster shot in the final two minutes… well that was the coup de grace.
Matt Turk – you earned a fan yesterday. As TGC (I think) said…. Matt Turk: better duel threat run/pass QB than Vince Young?

I think I have to take credit for the win
It’s the first time I haven’t watched a Texans game live since I don’t know when… and I didn’t get to watch it until late Monday night.
Man, it sucks to have missed all the live blogging fun during the game – and all the reaction after. I managed to not have a CLUE who won until I watched it.
The neighbors were probably wondering WTF I was screaming and cheering about at 2AM on a Monday night.
Anyway – I’ll never ever be able to delete this game from my DVR. :D
