Team Needs Confirmed By Those Who Actually Have Power To Do Something About It

Maybe this doesn't qualify as "news," but it's always nice to see that the team is on the same page as its fans:

"In no certain order," Kubiak said, "we're looking for a young left tackle to develop. Our running back situation has to be solidified. We're looking for a back that's going to be here for a long, long time. It's no secret that we're looking for help in the secondary. That's a priority, too."

And while Rick Smith seems to be a fan of the combine, it would appear that Kubiak is cut more from the "do it on the field" cloth:

"I like to scout on film," Kubiak said. "I don't think there's a better way to evaluate a player. That's the way I was brought up, and that's the way I'm most comfortable doing it. We can get film and statistics and other information on players, but I like to use the combine to sit down with them for 15 minutes and just talk to them and get a feel for them. I want to imagine while I'm talking with them if I can envision them playing with guys like DeMeco (Ryans) and Mario (Williams)."

We've asked this question a million times, and we're sure to ask it a million more until Roger Goodell announces what the Texans are doing with the eighteenth pick in the draft.  Still, fire away in the Comments below:  As of today, what do the Texans do at No. 18?  What about in the rest of the draft?  What should they do?

Stupid Dead Horse
Stand back up so I can continue beating you.

Yep, I'm still in favor of trading down for more early picks.

That said, I'm starting to get that feeling that the draft boards may be close when predicting Jonathan Stewart at 18.

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

I'm growing fond of Stewart
If we draft him, I might have a new man-crush.  I saw a piece on him on ESPN a few days ago detailing his workouts and stuff.  Long story short: kid is the most ripped MF around.  He's tough to tackle due to a low center of gravity and he has just enough burst.

If he can run below 4.5 in Indy, and then I see us snag him at 18 in April, I will probably ejaculate onto the tv.  From my couch.

He shoots - He scores!
Fuck yeah - If we draft a stud RB, I'd probably soak your tv too - from my house - in San Antonio - while turned in the opposite direction.

Circumventing the globe just found a new meaning.

Yuk.
Oh, and yuk. And I'm not talking about Stewart.

You need to get a fever more often! When you get better, you put out a lot of good stuff!  And as stated: "In no certain order," Kubiak said, "we're looking for a young left tackle to develop" I like how he starts out his no certain order.

Thanks, 1Tex
I think the realization that the draft is quickly approaching kind of got me going.  That, and the hallucinations brought on by said fever.

Kubes strikes me as precisely the kind of guy who would preface what position he's really targeting by saying immediately beforehand something to the effect of "in no certain order."  For some reason, I don't see guile and deceit as his strong suit(s).  In other words, after reading that quote, I immediately thought, "Huh...guess Kubes really wants a LT at No. 18."

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Secondary or RB
That's my thought.  And I'm inclined to think secondary help is most likely.  The reason being I think the depth at running back in this draft makes one easier to take in a later round.  I don't think there are LTs that are lower 1st round worthy.  And I think there is some real secondary help to be had after say... the 15th pick.

Then again, if we take the shake approach and get ourselves a second rounder, I say RB - CB - LT

Tell me again why I follow sports?

Intriguing...
Falcons have stated they are willing to deal Deangelo Hall, and it's no secret he wants out of ATL.  So....would he be worth our first round pick?  Or a player and our 3rd rounder, which would free us up to focus our energy on a rb or ot for the first round?

I am confident we won't make a play for him, but it piqued my interest for a minute.  I think he's a polarizing locker-room player, the kind that our team doesn't want.  But he's also a pretty good cover corner.

No Thanks
Hall is a hothead who cost his team 471828 yards on one possession against the Panthers.  We don't want someone like that on our team.  But he is a great corner.

Vick Supporter
Hall is also Vick supporter, and had a confrontation with the Falcons coaches on the sideline. So basically, you are talking about a distraction at best, or a trip to the pokey and suspension at worst. Not the kind of guy you want to have around.

I'd give up the 3rd rounder
in a heartbeat.

1-DE/RB
3-Hall
4-RB/LT
5-Secondary
6-Best Available
7-See six

A 4th, perhaps?
Wasn't Randy Moss acquired by the New England Cheaters last season for a 4th rounder?

Re: Moss
Correct; he went to NE for a fourth-rounder.  But Hall is younger, and I think it's a lot tougher to find a young, Pro Bowl-caliber CB than it is a WR whose best years (at the time) were behind him.

As talented as Hall is, I don't think the Texans would seriously consider taking him on.  Last time management took a chance on a malcontent, young, talented CB, Phillip "Showtime" Buchanon repaid their trust by imploding every freaking Sunday.  Plus, I firmly believe that Rick Smith treats draft picks like gold.  It'd take an awfully special player (e.g., The Schaub) to persuade him to part with anything.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Supposedly The Falcons Want A #1 For Hall
Too much for a guy who can implode at any time. Also, do you really risk your team culture for a single guy who could just as well ruin everything as make you better.

Draft picks=gold
In view of the success Smithiak has had in the draft, I'm in his (their?) corner on that one.
