The More Judgmental Among Us Would Probably Call This Schadenfreude

Although this was a foregone conclusion, it's still really something to realize that David Carr went from the first pick in the entire NFL draft to likely being unable to get a job as a professional football player in less than six (6) years.  Still, the silver lining in all of this is that Zoolander should now have plenty of time to watch "someone else do it."

Lest anyone think I'm piling on, remember that Carr made tens of millions of dollars in his brief career, which means at the end of the day he's still a twenty-eight (28) year old multimillionaire.  He's going to be fine.  As long as he doesn't get split ends, anyway.  I fear that would drive him insane.

Piling on? Hardly.
The man stole money for years, as far as I'm concerned.  It's beyond belief to me that there wasn't any way to tell that he had zero leadership qualities.

I was one of the many who thought he would be out of the league in a couple of years - then, I caught the Panthers game against the Titans last year and revised it to "this is his last year in the league."

Also, from all I hear, his wife hated Houston, so they can both suck it.  My only fear is that David's so prim and pretty that he'll show up as an NFL analyst somewhere.  Please, no.

Lack Of Talent
I don't think he necessarily lacks leadership qualities. I think he lacks talent. Specifically:
  1. Panics
  2. Can't read defenses
  3. Can't internalize anything other than the simplest plays
  4. Can't avoid the pass rush
  5. Can't deal with more than one or two receivers/find the open receiver
  6. Can't make an accurate overhand pass to the receiver
Although pretty, I can't really see him as an announcer. Maybe a runway model.

RE Lack of Talent
Well, yeah - all those things too - but he did them well in college and there was apparently no way to tell that he wouldn't be able to read defenses in the pros, or he at least had shown promise for the ability to learn such things... and the fact that he's smart.  Leadership however is not something that's typically learned.  You have it or you don't.

re: Reading Defenses
Chris, I think you assume too much as far as what happened at the combine w/ Zoolander.  You must be of the belief that these questions were asked, or that it was requested he demonstrate what he would do in a specific scenario.

While I leave the bulk of the fake conversations to Matt, I believe it went something like this...

C-Cass: "So David, we have narrowed it down to a pick b/n yourself and that Harrington kid.  Why don't you present the case for picking you as the overall #1?"

Samson: "Well Charlie, I can't really compete with that billboard of Joey they put up down in Times Square.  But I have sent numerous letters to the President of Fresno State, demanding to know why I didn't get a billboard in New York.  I mean Jesus, who wouldn't rather look at me instead of Joey?  Seriously, somebody needs to give that guy a makeover.  I break down in tears everytime he takes his helmet off and I have to look at that mess on his head."

C-Cass: "Let me go ahead and stop you right there, David.  You are definitely my guy."

We can be critical of the draft picks, but in the end we always support the new Texan.

Smart?!
He may be smart looking, but I seem to recall his Wunderlic was definitely less than impressive.

Re: Schadenfreude
This red-headed mexican boy from So. Texas had never heard of such a word, so I looked it up.  Color me enlightened.

Thanks BRB!

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.
