Dominique Barber Is The Newest Texan!

Another pick to shore up the secondary.  Brother of Marion Barber, so I'll probably have some difficulty championing his cause until he proves to be the Abel to Marion's Cain.  Looks like his immediate contributions would likely be on special teams; scouts don't seem to think he's very strong against the pass, which means he'll probably have a tough time getting on the field when those above him on the depth chart are also better against the run.

Thoughts?

I wonder
if they project him as a linebacker, since he doesn't have great speed.  What say ye?

Initial reaction
Love the fact that he comes from a football family.  Know what the league is all about.  Less likely to be shocked.

I think this was a special teams/depth move.

I wondering why we haven't gone after a DE yet.

To DE or not to DE... that is the question.

I Thought They Would Go DE By Now, Too
But this is reportedly not a good draft for DEs. Barber is supposedly a special teams wizard, so as you said, that's probably why he was selected.

cant agree
i know its the 6th round but hey tom brady was too (i know they say that every two seconds)....i would have rather had michael griffin, jamie silva, dj wolfe, or jamar adams over barber

Re: Shoulda coulda woulda
He graded out ahead of all those you mentioned except for Jamar Adams.  I don't know what they saw in Barber that they didn't see in Adams, but apparently they have their reasons for going with him.  I think its a pedigree issue.  Speaking of pedigree, Michael Griffin is already in the league.  His twin brother, Marcus, is still waiting.
To DE or not to DE... that is the question.
