Hi All
1st time on this site, all the way from Limerick, Ireland. I'm a Texan fan by choice follow the NFL online and on tv, Never been to Texas but started really enjoying NFL after the expansion Draft So had to be a Texan. I have a feeling i might be the longest distance fan here but I plan to visit reliant asap. Anyway just saying Dia duit(hi) and Go Texans - we're gonna make the playoffs this year. Mario Rules!

BRB Does Ireland
Welcome to the site, Flanno. While you may be the furthest distance-wise from Reliant Park, you’ve certainly got a home here. Look forward to reading more from you in the coming months.
And you’re right—your Houston Texans are playoff-bound in ‘08.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Same here, thanks for the welcome. I’ll definitely be making the pilgrimage to Houston this year, i sampled my 1st live action at Wembley this year and I’m itching for more.
One thing i am finding annoying is gettin Texans Merchandise, i have a few jerseys now but buying from NFL.com meant doubling the price having to pay Import Tax. Guess its the price i pay for being a long-range fan.
Love the Texans, Never been in Texas

Hey Flanno -
What made you decide to become a Texans fan? I noticed you listed the Rockets too, is it a Houston thing? You into Dj Screw? Do you sip the sizzurp? Into port cities? Oil derricks? Tall guys named Yao? Seriously, why Houston?
Sorry if it seems like I’m grilling you, but I’m curious as to what drives someone to go to great lengths to support a team that’s roughly 4,500 miles away.
With all that said, I’m glad that you do—don’t get me wrong. I’m just wondering about the why.

Hi Solis
Got into the Texans simply because I started to really like/get NFL around 2002, before that just played madden on the megadrive and picked the steelers, as i was a new fan I thought I’d support the new team :) Glad I did.
Rockets is basically just because Yao Ming Rules not much of a bball fan liked the knicks too because i saw them at MSG when i was visiting an ex gfriend.
So I dont have any connection to Houston I know its strange but just love the texans feels like as they grow so has my interest in this sport. I wanna be there from the start with a team.

also...
Its strange here in ireland seeing a new team, my local “soccer” team Limerick 37 is quite young having started in 1937. Almost every Irishmans favourite team the great Glasgow Celtic FC were started in 1888. So being around for the start of a team is somethin special, maybe not as much for you guys with expansions and relocations.

Awesome
I think the same can be said about a lot of us. When the Houston Oilers were ripped from us, there was a huge void that was left. The Texans fanbase was born out of people wanting to have a team to claim again.
Anyway – thanks for contributing and we look forward to hearing more from you.
(Rockets, huh… I would have sworn it’d have been the Celtics.)
