I have to believe this means we did bring in Gray thinking we had a trade for Rosey that ended up falling through. Once that didn’t happen they didn’t have any need for him so why use the roster spot?

or maybe...
Alex Brink is that good.
Either way, it looks good for him making the roster, eh?
I bet Grey wasn’t happy when they didn’t trade Rosey, and his displeasure showed. He thought he had 2nd string locked up, and Schaub would get hurt. Now he was starin down the face of a one year contract as the #3 dude, and #1 and #2 have more experience in the system.
Healthy and Turnover free 2008-09, and we win 11!

yes, it most definately good for Brink. I’m looking forward to seeing what he’s capable of in the pre-season.
..still the Grey situation was very odd. Remember the Jags cut him as well. It kind of makes you wonder if the guy’s just a big jerk or something. Either that or he has the IQ of Vince Young.

Sonovabitch!
Well…
I guess I’m disappointed that we didn’t trade him away… but maybe that was the plan all along. It’s pure speculation, but maybe there was a handshake deal in place that said if the team couldn’t trade Sage, then Gray would be released shortly afterwards.
He’ll get picked up somewhere. He’s got too much talent to be buried on a depth-chart. Here’s hoping he finds some NFC team to make him happy.

Cutting Jordan Black
I’m playing the race card on this one.

Does cutting black make it more likely that they’ll be keeping Spencer?
It’s weird to cut Gray, but IIRC he wasn’t making that much anyway. Maybe this means that Alex Brink is coming along nicely.

re: Spencer
Chris did his homework already on this subject, and is worth the read(s):

Hats off to Chris
Those were great write-ups. Chris is always spot on with his takes, which is what makes HDH such a kickass site.

It just means Shane Boyd is good enough to be QB3, and Kubiak really likes Alex Brinks, which is why he asked for him. I think he might be your future ….. buddy, besides arm strength is something you can build in the gym, much more easily than intelligence. Also, they have to cut down to 80 guys for camp a new imposed player limit Kubiak was talking about somewhere. So that’s 86 guys now. It seems turnstile really was a turnstile, and so they just admitted that they were desperate for left tackle when they brought him in. Also it might have been one of those Casserly things. You think Pauly Shore still has any hair, and does he hang out with Richard Simmons a lot just to confuse people?
Texans don't just love football, when a son is born in the state of Texas, before he gets home from the hospital, there's a footbal waiting in his crib.
Football in Texas, not just a state of mind but a whole religion.

Let's look at this positively
The new 80 player limit going into camp makes pre-camp cutdowns a new age reality of the NFL. I don’t like it, but it is fairer for 3rd string caliber players to find a roster spot elsewhere. I agree with texanphil that this is a big thumbs up for Alex Brinks. During the OTA’s he must have shown enough that Kubes is confident that he has a higher ceiling than Quinn Gray and can compete with Boyd for 3rd string. Sage, a solid 1A QB and ideal insurance against an injury to Matt, is in a one year deal. He will probably not settle for playing 2nd fiddle forever, and good teams always work on grooming a talented young QB for the future. If Matt survives the 1st half unscathed, I think we should look to move Sage for a #3 pick if that’s all we can get. Score one more for Smithiak.
Jordan Black did not have a chance on this team. He barely got off the bench last year.
After reading Chris’ takes on Spencer, I am concerned about his future. Kubes is being necessarily evasive in his comments about big Charles, and he too may get caught up in the numbers game. I am not sure that he wants to reserve a roster spot for someone that may not be able to contribute until next year, if ever at all. This all greatly saddens me because I remember the 2006 preseason when Spencer took the LT tackle spot by
the horns. His play was brilliant compared to his predecessors, but unfortunately the freak knee injury sidelined him. I blame Ron Dayne for the injury. Spencer was holding his block on the play, and Ron ran right up his back and kicked him in the back of the knee. Seen a lot of football, but I do not recall ever seeing this type of injury. Just another example of how cruel and violent the NFL can be.
6 more tough cuts to make before camp. Seven if we sign Colvin. Good teams have to cut good players. I think this means we are finally moving into the “good” category :)

quite common...
If you look at how most linemen get injured, it’s exactly like this. The ballcarrier will either fall into the backs of their legs, while they’re locked up with a defender, or a pile of players will do the same. Always look for that “head-back, back arched the wrong way, with a defender pushing the shoulders back even further” fall to the knees that happens to at least one lineman per game. That lineman will almost always limp to the sidelines, at best. Some require the cart.
Maybe this isn’t EXACTLY what you were referring to, but running into the back of a lineman will almost always cause some sort of injury.
So, I'm bangin this chick, right...
