Is it just me, or is anyone else concerned

that with the opening of training camp less than 1 week away, we have signed only 3 of our 7 draft picks to contracts? Xavier Adibi (4th round), Dominique Barber (6th round) and Alex Brink (7th round) are in the fold, but the rest remain unsigned. The previous regime always signed all of the draft picks exceedingly early, but then the spending habits of Casserly can only be described as foolhardy. He overpaid for free agents and must have for the draft picks as well. Rick Smith is obviously head and shoulders above Casserly, but if Duane Brown, Antwaun Molden, Steve Slaton and Frank Okam are going to make significant contributions this year, then getting them into camp on time is a must. Am I just worrying too much? What do you think? P.S - My first attempt at a post, so go easy on me :)

Not just you

Well, I was subscribing to the out of sight, out of mind approach, but I guess that’s gone out the window now. The only other news I’ve heard of this, is Megan Manfull’s blog saying that the rest of the rookies were going to get signed soon. She wrote on the 13th that they would be signed in the upcoming days. I still don’t think that any of the rookies will miss training camp, but they are definitely running out of time.

You're absolutely right

No, you’re definately not the only one wondering. Mentally, I’ve been biting my nails in anticipation. I’d hate to see a Steve Slaton or Frank Okam (or Molden/Brown) hold out. They all have too much to prove during the preseason to be a contract haggling while everyone else is getting ready. You are right on the money about the other four draft picks needing to get into camp on time.

Looks like I was being paranoid, and that Rick Smith knows what he is doing

Today the Chronicle’s Megan Manfull reports that all except Duane Brown have signed. Still need to get our new starting LT in on time, but a lot less to worry about than last Saturday. Why worry?

The Colts have still signed exactly Texans-Colts-at-different-places-with-rookie-contracts.html” >ZERO of their draft picks. Real Texans’ fans have plenty of other things to worry about than signing draft picks in a timely fashion (see “no winning seasons”, “Travis Johnson” and “Jerome Mathis’ dogs” for more pressing concerns).
