Frank Okam Is The Latest To Sign!

MyFoxHouston.com, the official site of Fox 26, is reporting that Frank Okam is the latest draft pick to ink a deal with the Houston Texans.  News of his signing follows today's earlier announcement of the agreements reached with Steve Slaton and Antwaun Molden.

I know a lot of fans in the Texans community want to see Frank Okam succeed in the middle because:

  1. He's a former University of Texas Longhorn.
  2. He could push the underachieving Travis Johnson for playing time.
  3. Getting a fifth round pick that's poised to make an impact is awesome.

Personally, I'm pretty stoked about 2 and 3 - but I'm sure you all have your own reasons.  Feel free to leave your thoughts about his eventual place in the rotation in the comments below.

Frank the Tank!

I’m excited because that means more Evil Frank posts are on the way from Matt and more importantly, the real life demise of Travis Johnson’s career as a Texan.

Amen to that...

Here’s to Franks’nBeans being just the sinister sonofabitch to relegate TJ to backup doodies.

Will the off-season ever end?

He's immediately in the rotation

Richard Smith will continue his practice of using an 8 man rotation, which I think is the only way to go. It keeps the linemen as fresh as possible. Okam immediately will be one of the top 4 DT’s and if TJ does not up his game, then he won’t be starting for long. I remember a quote from Kubiak that was directed at TJ before last year saying something like “I don’t care if a guy was a 1st round pick, if he can’t stay healthy and perform in practice, then he won’t be a part of the team”. Travis showed a few flashes last year, but has yet to live up to expectations for his draft slot. He is off to another slow start physically this year, and may be gone by next if he does not improve. Based on his mediocre showing to date, that would be no great loss.

Big Frank will start out 2nd string, but may be starting by midseason. At any rate he and Bulman will get significant playing time.

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget...

Travis also missed preseason snaps because his pelvis was inflamed (heh) and due to his own wedding, so Big Frank has been getting first team reps for much of the summer. That has to bode well when Smith, et al, are weighing their options.

Plus, he’s still our only true NT.

Yay, sports.

Nose Tackle

You know, the big guy in the middle who ties up two offensive linemen, thus freeing Mario Williams, Amobi Okoye, and whoever is lucky enough to line up at the other DE position.

Nose Tackle?

We haven’t had one of those in years… well not a real one. Sorry Travis – you’ve been playing out of position since you got here. Maybe a shot working along side Okam for a handful of plays will give you the shot to prove you can be the DT you were meant to be.

(BTW – I like’d to think the position of Nipple Twister still exists… might be my only shot of making the team).
