Seattle Texans Dominate Vikes
Let me be the first to say 'I told you so' about 3 guys that formerly donned the Battle Red, Liberty White and Deep Steel Blue.
Last year when our Texans traded Jason Babin for Michael Boulware I protested. Here we are a year later with no pass rush and there is Babin causing havoc on the Minnesota QB's and ball handlers, racking up 5 tackles, a fumble recovery and a sack. Since us Texans fans have not seen one of these in over 6 months, it means to tackle, a quarterback attempting to pass the ball, behind the line of scrimmage. We know that Coach Kubiak, man, don't really like the whole tatoo thing, but this guy is obviously a player.
Then there's Jeb Putzier lighting up the scoreboard while our TE's were missing blocks and not getting open in the secondary. I protested when the organization simply let him walk in the offseason while paying him $1 million to just go away and now he's on pace to grab 20 TD's for the season. I guess we're the ones that got Putziered this time around.
As if it couldn't get any worse, there was a former Texans favorite... Howard Green. Yes, that same Howard Green out of LSU whom Houston used their 10th overall draft pick in franchise history on and subsequently cut before giving him a single snap in the NFL. Green's line on the night... 2 sacks, 5 tackles, 1 interception, 1 forced fumble. An outstanding game for a DT on any level.
So please forgive me if I'm slightly bitter after watching the Seattle Texans dominate Brooks Bollinger, Mo Hicks, Bobby Wade and the rest of Minnesota's Super Bowl contending roster. I knew it could happen, if only the brain trust over at Reliant Park had half the foresight....

i can feel you a little bit on a trade that didn’t work out, but i just went and looked at the play by play. Babin’s 1st tackle came on special teams. His next tackle came against at least 2nd stringers. Gus Frerotte & Maurice Hicks were in on that series. The rest of his numbers came against more scrubs.
i don’t like that we have net zero now from that trade, but we were addressing a position of need (safety) with a position of quasi-strength (pass rusher). the texans have a solid group of safeties and a solid set of edge rushers now.
if babin were here, who would he beat out? N.D. Kalu? Tim Bulman? Earl Cochran? Rosevelt Colvin? Chaun Thompson?
Putzier had one play that I can find there. that was the 15 yd TD. not quite on pace for 20 TDs this season. My guess is that he was a good target for Seneca Wallace.
Green certainly showed up, but it was all against scrubs. He seems to be depth for their DT. Same question on him. Who would he beat out? Okoye, Okam, Johnson, Maddox, Zgonia? DelJuan Johnson?
I can definitely feel your pain on the lack of production we got from some of these guys, but here’s the silver lining. The Texans are improving to where other teams are signing our guys. When the Texans cut down to 53, some of those guys that were cut will probably be picked up by other teams.

Babin showed nothing while he was here
I was more disappointed in Babin’s lack of performance while he was here, considering how much Casserly overpaid in draft picks to get him, than in Michael Boulware’s lack of productivity. As marroncito pointed out, we were desperate for safety help, and were much stronger at the DE (or so we thought). We WILL be better rushing the passer this year.
I am satisfied with our TE corps. Daniels is an excellent receiver (better than Jeb). Bruener blocks like a lineman (better than Jeb), and Dreessen can take over the long snapping duties if needed. Maybe Jeb was better at his combined skillset of blocking and receiveing, but with Daniels in the lineup, he was not going to get many looks.
I think our cast of DT’s is good. Never saw Green play.
Keep the faith. GO Texans!!!!!!!!!

Also
Babin was on the bubble last year for the Texans.
Boulware was on the bubble for the Seahawks
They were traded. Babin didn’t do anything. Boulware had some minor contributions, but was sent packing in the offseason, which should tell you something.
Howard Green was drafted in 2002. He was out of the NFL for three of those seasons, and bounced around the other three.
Hey, if the light went on for Babin and Green, best of luck to them.
First Daniel, then Dreesen beat out Putzier. Putzier has talent, but is too expensive to ride the bench. So he’s gone.

What the hell are you talking about? It’s pre-season!
But I do wish we had kept Babin.
