Question...

I just had a fantasy football draft the other day. I decided to take schaub (steal in late round) because of how great he looked last year when healthy.

I am not a texans fan, but I have always been a big demeco ryans fan. The man comes to work every week and dominates.

My questions are...

1. How successful do you think schaub will be this year?

2. If I own schaub, is sage a worthy handcuff?

3. Whats the running game looking like for this year? Ahman green cant possibly play the whole season. Slaton seems pretty exciting.

Thanks for reading and commenting, Santo. My take:

1. I really like Schaub to put up big numbers this year. If he avoids the unlucky breaks/late hits that plagued him last year, I don’t think it’s unreasonable to expect 3,500 yards passing.

2. Definitely. Though I’m cautiously optimistic that Schaub will stay upright all season, the small sample size we have (last season) suggests that Sage is going to get on the field. And Sage showed he’s capable of putting up very good numbers when he gets the chance.

3. HUGE question mark. I don’t like Ahman Green or Chris Brown’s chances to make it two weeks, much less a season, without getting injured. Slaton could make an impact, but I’d probably avoid all Houston RBs for fantasy purposes until further notice.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Well said

Sup Santo? I agree. We have a rock solid receiving corps that is poised to put up big numbers, whether it be Schaub or Rosenfels. That said, a healthy Matt Schaub will undoubtedly net you solid stats week to week.

Look at his weapons:

  • Andre Johnson : One of the leagues best. No further explaination needed.
  • Kevin Walter: One of the best receivers no one knows about… Great routes, best hands on the team. Draws comparisions to Ed McCafferey
  • Andre Davis: Loves the long ball – YPC ranked among the NFLs best. Always a threat to score on the fly.
  • Owen Daniels: Not a fantasy sleeper anymore. He’s a big part of Kubiak’s offense. While TDs were down, still hauled in 63 passes for 768 yards in 2007. No reason to expect otherwise.

XFactors

  • Jacoby Jones: Has a severe case of fumblitis that needs to be cured. Potential to be electrifying when (and if) he finally gets it.
  • Steve Slaton: I expect to see a few passes in the flat on 2nd and 5 or 3rd and 4 for the speedy rookie out of WVU. Looks to be a threat to take it the distance in the open field.

What makes the starting group so dynamic is that they all have differing talents, but what they do have in common are excellent hands and the ability to run precise routes. The best part is that when people are burning their 1st round picks on Manning and Brady, you can pick up a couple of solid RBs or RB/Stud WR and should be able to snag Schaub in the third posibly the fourth depending on the size/savvy of your league…

Good luck and thanks for posting.

Just last night

the DNT league I’m in had their draft, and I took Schaub, Walter, and Owen Daniels. OD Is my starting TE, and Walter and Schaub are on my bench. I’ll probably move Schaub to the starter eventually, depending on how my starter, Drew Brees does.

The Texans marquis players are good for anyone’s fantasy team.

in my draft the other day

i got reggie wayne with the 11th pick (16 team league) because peyton, brady, brees, and romo were already gone. I’m in a PPR league so i could justify it. I went on to pick Colston in the second round. I watched schaub closely as the rounds went on and finally got him in the 5th.

thanks for your input guys.

From Matthew Berry:

Matt Schaub will throw for 3,500 yards and 28 touchdowns. Love it.
