Marcel Shipp About To Become A Texan?

You'll never believe this, but it looks like Ahman Green's inconsequential injury from the first preseason game seems to be lingering a bit. I for one am shocked. Because if there's one thing we know about Ahman Green from his time in Houston, it's that wild horses can't drag him off the field. Wait...did I say "field?" Because I meant "training table."

Enough of my childish sniping...the Chronicle is reporting that your Houston Texans are bringing Marcel Shipp in to "add more experience and depth to the backfield." Methinks that's code for "take some reps for the next two (2) weeks and don't plan on being in Pittsburgh," but the fact is that I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if the seemingly inevitable catastrophic injury to one of our brittle RBs opened the door for Shipp to stick. Man, I'm negative tonight.

On the bright side, Super Steve Slaton, who has looked the sharpest of all the RBs in the early going, is going to get reps with the first team offense on Friday night. So we've got that to look forward to, right?

this spells CUT

for Chris Brown.

Its “practice and play Chris, or we got someone who can be our #2.”

And I think we’re seeing how Chris will respond… he’ll get “injured”

Healthy and Turnover free 2008-09, and we win 11!

The Rep On Shipp

Rode the bench the last couple of years. Adds a strong veteran presence. Good locker room guy. Does everything asked. Sounds like some of the other guys they’ve brought in to change the climate (e.g., Zgonina)

Maybe they want to change the attitude at the RB position. Get an older guy who works hard, has a professional demeanor, and is content to back up and mentor the younger guys. Maybe Green and Brown can’t play that role. Might signal they are going with the younger guys.

A perfect inverse relationship b/w experience and performance this year

for the Texans RB’s. Slaton is the newest followed by Darius, Taylor, Brown and Green in that order. Rating their effectiveness in camp so far, Slaton is easily the best, followed by Darius, Taylor, Brown then Green. Correlation coefficient for this relationship is 1.0, meaning a perfect correlation. kozanack has it exactly right, when he says that we are going with the younger guys. It’s definitely more out of necessity than choice, and I would still like to get a few games out of Green/Brown before handing over the position to Steve/Darius, but the young guys are healthy while Green/Brown are iffy. The Darius/Steve combo will be adequate if:
1) The OL continues to improve as they showed in the NO game, and
2) Schaub continues his impersonation of Joe Montana. His performance Saturday night was nearly flawless. Keep up the great work Matt, and of course………

GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!!!!!
