A raging drunken perspective
Everyone knows football rules in Texas & tonight the Texans are in New Orleans for preseason(Astros lost again vs. Arizona). Here are my perspectives on the game tonight:.
No more talk about a quarterback controversy here in Houston ; Matt Schaub (14 of 16 187 yds 2 tds),versus NFL starting caliber players, outplayed Sage Rosefels(6 of 8 94 yds 0 tds), versus backups. Kevin Walter(6 rec 100yrds 1 td) is an amazing reciever!!! Let us all hope Chris Brown stays healthy, because he looks to be perfect for this run blocking scheme & while I'm speaking of blocking; Duane Brown did another solid job against a quality end in the league. Holy crap! Did Smithiak score again by getting another undervalued player? So far , so good.
Onto the defense : these guys did not so look. I know that the play calling is a little vanilla for defense in the preseason ,so I won't get too stressed but.... WHERE IS THE PASS RUSH!?!?!!!! Drew Brees(who is a helluva qb) had WAY TOO MUCH TIME! in the pocket & diced apart our secondary. They played special attention to Jacques Reeves(I hope he's not a liability during the regular season). I don't have the stats on plays against him ; but I especially remember a play (and so did EVERY major media outlet)where Reggie Bush hurdled him for a touchdown. I do know they where going after him a lot; which is a concern for me because I know other teams will be looking for weaknesses. Is Reeves a weakness?
Onto the pass rush....or lack of pass rush. I know it's preseason & teams are not showing their hands as far as their different strategies are concerned , but there was no pressure on the quarterback at all. Still no pass rush? The front four need to generate a lot more considering the fact that the secondary will still be lacking until Robinson will be ready after the bye(it looks like teams will be keying on Reeves this season instead of Feagans).
Hey Jacoby Jones...you need to HOLD ON TO THE FOOTBALL!!! Potential is a killer of coaches & teams. Often a team will hang onto a player because of "potential" This kind of performance for the second week in a row is not acceptable ; especially with the competition at receiver. The Texans cannot afford to waste a roster spot on "potenial" That being said, I trust the decision if Smithiak concerning him.
Back to the positives. Kris Brown is one of the best in this league; another excellent performance! Chris Taylor looked like he gained a lot of confidence since the first game; let's hope that is really just a cramp that held him out of the rest of the game & not anything serious. Steve Slaton played versus the 3rd & 4th string but this guy looks like a helluva NFL player. He will surprise a lot of people.I'm looking forward to a long & illustrious career with the Texans. It looks like Alex Brink was a solid pick, he had good poise in he pocket & scrambled well. I would tend to give Gary Kubiak the benefit of the doubt on quarterbacks because he has a TON of experience on that position. In fact, I trust Smith/Kubiak on all of their decisions(even the ones i disagree with), because these guys have come through everytime. Solid second preseason game; I'm expecting great things come regular season.

Nice breakdown
Hey IRage – Your observations were spot on. Just hit the enter key every once in a while – makes it easier on the eyes.
Looking forward to reading more of your takes as the season rolls on.

Welcome to BRB
You & Texanmaniac have some very valid points which I enjoy reading.
However, with that said……I’m not sure what the applicable rules are (if any), but something just doesn’t feel right with you guys straight Copy & Pasting the posts from your own blog into BRB. I enjoy having you around, but I just don’t think this is the way to go about it.
But then again, my opinion on this as it relates to BRB doesn’t really count for much. Tim??

I understand...
your concern or issues with us cut and pasting. Our blog incompasses the Astros, Rockets and Texans. We bring our Texans related material to BRB, cause like Rage said this is by far the best blog for Texans fans and we love the insight of our BRB bretheren
GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!

Yeah...
I guess the thing that triggered my response now, was you can easily tell the post was written on Saturday. And then it’s pasted here 4 days later without any change to the content.
When you click on a new post and read the word ‘tonight’ in the 1st sentence, then it is just weird that ‘tonight’ was 4 days previous.
But again, I have absolutely no say in how things can or cannot be done around here. Such things are left up to Timmy Two Toes.

Cutting and Pasting
First off, let me say welcome aboard, Rage. With regard to the cutting and pasting, I don’t have a huge problem with it as long as it’s not being done gratuitously (e.g., to the point that BRB becomes a virtual mirror of your blog).
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

Yeah...
wouldn’t want it to detract from the one post per week Tim is putting out there.
Yay, sports.

Well Played
In all fairness, however, I think your increased production over at DGDB&D is pretty easily explained. You live in Arkansas. It’s not like there’s anything else to do there but blog or romance your kinfolk.

Is it considered a date if your cousin is driving the car?
Hunting buddy, cousin, girlfriend… now that’s what I call efficiency. Way to go Arkansas!

My Dad
was from Arkansas, and I’ll have you know that the toothbrush was invented there, at least that’s the common speculation, because if it had been invented anywhere else it would be called a teethbrush.

Thankfully
I am not from Arkansas. I am stranded in Arkansas.
Yay, sports.

Appreciation
Thanks for the comments . I was a lot tipsy when I wrote this & I’ll work to improve the next time I post. For me & maniac this is the best site to come for Texans football . Absolutely love the site. We started our own blog because we’re tired of the negative slant that all of Houston gets from both local & national media. We’re just a couple of dudes who love all of Houston sports. Especially HOUSTON TEXANS!!!
