Prepare to meet your maker (literally)!!!
So football season is finally upon us and I thought I’d take a little excursion to the home of the Denver South Texans to engage in a little friendly banter regarding this weekend’s game and the upcoming season. Obviously the upcoming game means very little in terms of win or lose; however, we can see a little glimpse of what each team brings to the table in the upcoming season. I also think that there is a very good chance that Denver and Denver’s very own Mini-Me (The Texans) will be competing for a playoff spot come December.
I’ve noticed that several of the all-knowing pundits in the national media are picking Houston as a sleeper to sneak into a Wild Card spot; however, from an outsider’s perspective the division is just too competitive at this point for Houston to have a legitimate chance. Obviously the Texans need to show that they can win in their own division before they can legitimately worry about anything else.
Denver, on the other hand, benefits from a relatively weak division and a soft schedule. Phyliss and his Merriman (Chula Vista Chargers) still present a hurdle, but the rest of the division is very weak and we think we’ve made the adjustments/improvements to at least compete for a playoff spot.
Houston is obviously on the upswing with a very good coach and a young nucleus of talent; however, until Indianapolis or Jacksonville start to decline I think it’s just too much of an uphill battle. But regarding the game at hand…
I’m taking the Broncos 3rd string over the Texans 3rd string 31-24!!! For the season: Broncos 11-5; Texans 9-7.
Good luck on the season!!! (Broncos fans still love Kubiak and honestly wish him success as long as it’s not to the detriment of the Broncos)

Denver South
I think that y’all’s first team will win, because crosses fingers Andre Johnson won’t be playing on Saturday.
When we move to the second team though, I think Sage will put up a touchdown or two, and we’ll win that battle.
If Alex Brink is as good as Kubiak wants him to be, I think we may end up beating y’all’s third team. I think he’s still going to be too raw as a quarterback to succeed, especially with the third string wide receivers.
Ultimately, I think Denver will win 24-21, with the win coming late in the third quarter or the fourth quarter. After the beatdown last year, we have to let y’all have some bragging rights back, or else we won’t be able to get all of the players you think you don’t want (see: Chris Myers).

What do you think about Sage at two...
Didn’t he put up a pretty good argument last year to get the starting nod?

Not really
I feel pretty much the same way about Sage that I did about Tony Banks.
I remember watching one series when Tony Banks was in, and he just shredded the defense. The next series, he threw a boneheaded interception. The main point of this comparison, is that at times Sage will look amazing, but at other times, you can clearly see why he’s been a backup QB in this league for so long.
That said, Sage>>>Tony Banks, but, I don’t think he is as good physically or mentally as Schaub. And yes, I am ignoring the penchant that Schaub had for trying to throw INT’s in the end zone early in the season.
Also, it’s been commented on to death, but you can’t underestimate the importance of having a healthy AJ on the field.

Great tag line
I think you’re coming around… but you’re not quite there yet.
Some times a team comes out of nowhere to take a division by storm. Look at J’Ville. They went from mediocre to cream of the crop seemingly over night. Of course they added key pieces to provide a potent rushing attack and built on their already stellar D-Line – but we could very well see the Texans not a being a sleeper, but truly a surprise team this year.
Thanks for stopping by – pop in whenever you want to talk about Thursday night games… or all red jerseys… or Mario Williams eating Jay Culter alive… you know – whatevers on your mind.

Re: Cutler
Honestly, who was the braniac that thought roll-outs and naked bootlegs AT Mario would be a good idea?
Yay, sports.

I was there
And I thought it was a fantastic idea. I like to believe Mario was also a big fan of the idea.
Wait, you mean who on the Denver coaching staff? Oh, nevermind then.

Mario Williams played very well that game.
Against a beat up and injured Denver line.

Boo Hoo
Every team’s offensive line is beat up and injured by that time in the season. We lost 3 starters by that game and all the guys that were left had some sort of injury. What did Elvis Dumbville do against them??? I thought so….
We will eagerly wait on your next excuse for getting crushed and emberrassed…

Thats it ?!?!?!?!
Your right,.. Every teams starting center, and starting left tackle are out or injured that time of season. Very indepth analysis princess. Yes Mario was a dominant force that game and the Houston Broncos beat us but still our line was fucked.

We did have 78 missed games by starters last year!!!
I’m not sure how that relates to number of players out at any given time. Alhtough that an average of just under 5 starters missing per game and it’s obviously going to be weighted heavily to the latter part of the season. Either way…I think it’s fair to say that we both had our injury issues last season.

Hey Denver_Dipshit
Again, our line was just as fucked and the little poonstains on your defensive line didn’t do shit. It’s okay to be jealous when you have guys like Elvis Dumbville and we have Mario Williams.

Hey guys...
I intended this thread to be good natured. Please help keep it that way.
I appreciate the passion for our respective teams but lets keep it fun.

Agreed
But your boy should check his facts before whining about losing the starting LT & C last year, seeing as how the Texans lost those same respective starters in the first few games.

DOOM and Super Mario...
Both had outstanding seasons. DOOM had 12.5 sacks and Mario had 14 (I think).
Both have bright futures ahead of them and should be two of the premiere DEs in the league for years to come.

Not really...
“Both have bright futures ahead of them and should be two of the premiere DEs in the league for years to come.”
You’ve completely missed the boat with this statement. Dumbville is strictly a pass rush specialist and those types of DE’s are a dime a dozen. Mario is a 4-down DE that teams have to scheme for when they rush and pass. There are very few all-around DE’s in the league, unfortunately only the guys that put up sack numbers are recognized. If these guys were looked at as a whole there would be few to compare to Mario.

Which is why...
Mario had 20 more tackles and more tackles for loss (4.5 to 1) than Elvis. Despite being double-teamed on nearly every play. Except when the Broncos tried to block him one-on-one.
Yay, sports.

DOOM has overcome stereotypes his whole career...
First he was undersized and could never play DE in college, let alone the NFL. Now that he has 12.5 sack season it’s, “(DOOM) is strictly a pass ruch specialist and those type of DE’s are a dime a dozen”. I’ve watched him in camp and he has looked excellent against the run. Shanny said he’ll get his chance this season to show he’s a every down DE and has confidence he can be. We’ll have to wait and see…

I'm not detracting from Mario...
...by saying Elvis is a good DE. No reason to get defensive. I really don’t think it’s appropriate to claim that DOOM is “a dime a dozen”...as he has been a unique player his entire football career.

Please
We were running 2/5ths of our opening day line out there by that point and I don’t recall Elvis going off for 3.5 sacks. Mario owned the Broncos and, playing like he did, there wasn’t an offensive line in the league that would have stopped him that night. Of course, it helped immensely that Cutler kept rolling right at him, as if he was unaware that Mario was stealing the soul of Denver’s RT.
Yay, sports.

Admittedly...
Denver had one of the worst seaons in recent memory for a number of reasons…and Houston caught us at one of our lowest points (biggest issue was the teams confidence was in shambles at that point). However, we’re confident that the necessary adjustments have been made. We have players once again healthy and improved depth at spots that are suspect. He have a new defensive philosophy and players. A couple new offensive weapons (which is good because we’ve yet to see how many game BMarsh will miss). And, ultimately, believe we’ll be a significantly improved team this year. I’m looking forward to it.

Like I said...
...we have a much easier schedule than last year. Also, if you’re basing your opinion of the Broncos on last year’s performance…you’re missing a big part of the picture. We’ve improved at almost every position and I think it’s within reason to expect a 4 game improvement in record after taking into account the improved talent and softer schedule. .
