Spencer Released by Panthers
Offensive tackle Charles Spencer, cut not long ago by the Houston Texans despite being a third-round draft pick in 2006, has now been released by the Carolina Panthers.
Not a big surprise here, but this should alleviate any concerns that people had about how the Texans handled Charles Spencer. Carolina is saying he was released due to conditioning, but it's much more likely that he will never be the same player due to the knee injury. He is likely done in the NFL.

Tend To Agree
But I’m hoping Big Nasty gets another shot. Have to pull for a guy who spent the last two years trying to come back from an injury that a lot of other people would have just let beat them.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I'm with you Tim
If but only for a few brief games, this kid played the best LT the Texans have seen to date. I hope that eventually Big Charles gets another chance, even if it is not with the Texans. He was really something special for those few games.

The door is still open with the Texans
Johnny Mac is reporting this AM quoting Rick Smith “The door’s still open. We’ve been in contact with him. If he gets in shape, then another chapter in the Charles Spencer story could be writen with our team”.
He passed a physical with both the Texans and the Panthers, so the leg fracture must have healed properly. Big Nasty could be a great guard for the Texans if he can get back into football playing condition. Here’s hoping that he does with the Texans. With the recent spate of OL injuries (Salaam & Scott Jackson) I am sure that Rick Smith is busy looking for someone better thanTorrin Tucker or Fred Miller. Problem is that this time of year isn’t the easiest time to find a decent player.

Conditioning
Yeah – I just think back to that video of him trudging around (on solid ground) the field during the OTAs. Not in any kind of game shape.
As the season draws near and the preseason competition gets going in full swing – there won’t be any room for a guy who gets winded after a handful of plays… especially on the oline… as we know all too well, bad oline play can ruin anyones day.
