Open Gameday Thread: Denver v. Houston
Denver Broncos at Houston Texans, Aug 9, 2008 7:00 PM CDT
It ain't the regular season, but after six (6) months of fasting...it's going to feel damn good to watch some football. Our friends from Denver come to town tonight; we all remember what happened to them the last time they visited Reliant. Although this game doesn't count in the standings, there's a lot to watch. How does Schaub look? The rookies? Newly-signed free agents? I'm giddy just thinking about it.
As always, leave your predictions, observations, thoughts, and rants in the Comments below. This year's running threads should be immensely better than last year's, as the new platform refreshes automatically to reflect new comments. Let us know what you think of the new feature
Oh, and...GO TEXANS!

Long Overdue
It may only be pre-season, but at this point who cares!? It’s just great to get to see some Texans football finally!
Maybe Mario can put Cutler on his backside a couple times tonight as well.
Dre all day
*sigh*
unless you’ve figured out how to deliver beer over the interwebs, that’d better be the end of your taunting.
I’m so broke, I’ll be drinking Miller Lite. sobs
i want to see
another very solid defensive stand
yep.
camera angles have been kinda sucky, but trying to follow who wre are sending.
goodness, mario is a beast.
So, I'm following along on nfl.com
but it sounds like our defense just got

Anyone watching care to verify?
yep. pretty accurate. they rolled right through us.
mario had some good stops, but they ripped us apart.
Looked very sharp in all aspects
right up until he tried to throw a Red Zone INT…......better get that shit out of his system before the regular season
Chris Taylor
is looking pretty decent…..seems like he just needs to make a little bit quicker 1st decision
Speaking of urges
are Adibi and Molden on the field yet?

Just showed some replays
of Duane Brown…...looks pretty f’ing good already with his footwork & technique
that was horrible
strong safety blitz and the pick. interesting to see the blitz, though, but it was a super shitty pass.
yep
he was getting some good press heading into the pre-season, too. if I remember correctly, he was strong last preseason.
Agreed
Just saw the slo-mo replay, and that was perfect footwork to get both feet down in time…..especially w/ no force-out rule this year
yeah.
he’s been around the ball. fletcher has been tough but a horrible PI. diles and cochran just made a nice play. but it’s been ugly.
That PI for Fletcher
He was literally like 1/5th of a step too early. The ball was about 2.5 inches from the receiver’s hands when he made that hit.
Hard to tell exactly w/ this camera work
But it seems like he is doing his job…...space-eating punter and all
However, it’s freaking hard to tell since the other 3 players around him are sucking so horribly bad
I hope by the Dallas game
That Evil Frank has supplanted TJ, because Travis seemed to be getting blown up by 1 lineman
Good thing we have Anderson
We’re kind of thin at WR. Not.

Stupid nfl
Why in the hell isn’t pre-season football streaming online? Probably the same reason they charge full ticket price for preseason games.
Like I said.
Good thing our d is so solid.

Haha.
I’m an idiot.
Seems a solution to our rb problem has been right in front of our face all along.
Turk's rush
Does no one remember the punter hell we were in before Turk got to Houston? Why let your punter rush in a pre-season game. That’s the one guy people want to nail
No TV
As noted earlier, I can’t get the game here… I have to rely on a liveblog for the game information. How sad.
Me too.
So thanks to you guys who can see for filling us in.

So....
The announcers are absolutely retarded…...
Anyone else who saw that think the run wasn’t planned, but was due to the pressure coming from his left?
I was going to ask you about that
It seems like I’ve seen about 5-6 (both teams combined) in the 1st half…....with about the same crappy success rate as CFB.
WTF???
Fletcher lateralled to Petey???
That was a helluva play by Fletcher. Great break on the ball and he smoked the field with the catch. I know it was a hail mary, but very impressive.

“Follow me to January: Ahman Green is healthy, running hard, and out to prove he can once again anchor a playoff push.” Right…
Yeah
with Harrison back now
But other than Indy, I can’t think of another team I would trade all 5 receivers straight up
Houston Texans red zone audio

You can select which team’s broadcast to listen to whenever a team is in the red zone, for free.
Serves him right for playing with VY's emotions so much
You know VY loves the big boys.

PS
You’re an asshole for making me see that picture again.
And the guy on Vince’s right reminds me of the ‘ol Handi-Man character by Jim Carey
Crazy formations
Audio says David Anderson lined up as a fullback? Wtf
I reviewed the DVR
And he did line up as FB on the 3rd & Goal, but then was splitting left at the snap…..ball thrown to him on a NFL-modified bubb screen.
Adibi
Is Adibi just tearing shit up? NFL Gamecenter says he’s been in on the last three tackles (that’s including the holding penalty)
LVJ = ?
Just tried to do way too damn much
with that return.
Just fucking get 5-10 yards down hill and go with it.
#67 -- Gabe Long
He’s a rookie DT out of Utah.
P.S. Adibi was coming in the middle on the blitz, which allowed Long to get a 1-on-1 matchup and get his hand up for the deflected pass
Roberson
of the DelJuan variety… how is he looking? Apparently he just had a Will Demps interception impression.
was a tip and a hard adjustment
I always said, if you can touch it you can catch it, and he maybe shoulda had it, but it wasn’t dempsian.
It wasn't slick willie style
The ball was deflected, and the receiver’s left hand was in-between Roberson’s hands when the ball arrived…....so a pretty tough catch to make.
Off-topic, and totally not gay...
...but is this a bad-ass suit that Tom Brady is wearing or what? http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/multimedia/photo_gallery/0808/did.you.see.that.0808/content.10.html
Professional Advice Needed
Is it a bad thing when you’ve had enough of a dark beer (like say, Shiner Black) that you’re still not hungry for dinner?
And then
almost an interception in the Red Zone
Apparently he’s going back and forth b/n Old Petey on even-numbered plays
not afraid to be physical
attempts to run through woodward, holds his own. he’ll learn to try to make him miss, otherwise he’ll get injured a lot
Madden 2009
Anyone buying it this year? I think I’ve bought Madden without renting it beforehand for the last time.
he's really doing what we want him to do...
taking on two blockers and penetrating.
also, remember when he was a sure-fire first-round pick?
ooooohh last august
when i was still a college student. UT season tickets for $60. those were the days
Petey PI?
NFL Gamecenter says it was for 27 yards but I don’t see outrage on the blog here; what gives?
It was Roberson
never turned to look at the ball, and contact the defender about 1.4 seconds early while putting his hands up to defend the ball
NFL Gamecenter audio
went out right as the crowd got loud; sort of like your girlfriend turning the TV off during the play, haha.
Wish I could see it
I wanted to see how he compared to NFL speed, since he had such a ho-hum time at the combine.
Correction
ran a 4.45 at the combine; I thought he ran in the 4.5s for some reason.
Consistency is key
I’d rather have the guy that gets 4.5 yards every time instead of the boom/bust 4.5 ypc guy.
I was just about to ask
if the line was sucking or if he just couldn’t break tackles. Not a good indication…
Slaton
He looks like he is still adjusting to running with 2 hands covering the ball when a defender gets close…which isn’t a bad thing, old CFB fumble habits considered
Salaam
Announcer says he’s out “3 to 6 weeks”. Oh nos
Weird rule
It’s only a delay of game penalty if you spike the ball while you’re in-bounds after the play? Why wouldn’t it be delay of game out of bounds?
More Slaton
What formations has he been used in? It’s only one game, but apparently he’s not a between the tackles guy. I think it would be best to have him in a split backfield with a bigger back, like Chris Brown; Slaton should end the year with about 50 carries and 35 catches.
This broadcast SUCKS
They just showed a graphic w/ DEN having 2 turnovers and HOU having 0.
Jacoby is very happy to hear that his fumble was somehow taken away.
So...
Anyone else notice that Alex didn’t get any play at QB tonight?
Also, props to the coaching staff for leaving Andre in street clothes. No need for PS games for that fella.
Brink
Kubes said Brink was sitting this game out in the day 14 camp quotes (maybe day 13). Brink will play in the second half of the NO game.
