from MM at the Chron

Matt Schaub made poor decisions and was off on his throws – just like he was against Dallas. He finished the first half with two interceptions, zero touchdowns and passer rating of just 40.9. In comparison, Ben Roethlisberger’s passer rating was 142.9.

Yeah, your QB made our D look really, really good. They were still good, don’t get me wrong, but you guys definitely dropped the ball a lot so to speak.

I’m not here to rub it in though. Better luck next week, you guys have a tough road to row. I’m glad we won, but hope you guys can dominate the rest of your schedule to make us look better. That and I’m always for the underdog. Our division is a piece of crap, yours is absolutely friggin solid. We’ll get to play them all, oh great.

Dear Beans Carter--

Your franchise QB went 12/22, 110 yds, 1 TD, 2 INT. That is awful.

Here is where you say something lame about “at least we won,” but that doesn’t change the fact that your best QB is your backup and that your team is still going to suck over the course of the year. Nor does it change that your parents were likely related before they married.

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Sep 7, 2008 4:37 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

ROFLMAO!!!

In the face of ignominious defeat, you throw this ignorant crap at me?

Pathetic! But not as pathetic as getting absolutely throttled by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

You wanna feel good about Vince Young playing poorly and and getting injured, then more power to you. in the meantime I am going to enjoy our win and your exquisitely laughable loss.

Your team is not who you thought they were; meanwhile, the Titans are sitting squarely atop the AFC South.

Not sure what you’ll keep saying as your season shifts from ugly to un-salvageable, but I’m sure it will be priceless, awkward, will betray your level of literacy and will likely include some tired old joke about Southern inbreeding..

I get to sleep tonight knowing that I was right and you were wrong. 2 “experts” out of 16 had you in the playoffs.

38-17.

Is it your defense that is supposed to be good?

Because they’re not.

Is your offense supposed to be good?

They’re not good either.

Maybe you should be proud of your zone blocking scheme, because if all else fails at least you can feel good about destroying some knee ligaments this year.

by BeansCarter on Sep 7, 2008 10:40 PM CDT reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Your team...

played like ass on offense but won because the defense was good and because David Garrard is not as good as advertised. We lost to one of the two or three best teams (of which your team is not one) in the AFC. If you really think yesterday means all that much, I expect you to still be trolling around here once the Titans are squarely in last in the division.

Also, next time you want to talk about someone’s level of literacy, please ensure that your post is not full of punctuational errors. OK? Thanks.

Football Outsiders...

projects the Titans with 6.7 wins and the Texans with 8.9. Your continued use of last year (and even week 1) as a map for how this year is going to go will make you look retarded in the end. I will be sure to point it out after it happens, too.

How’s your “franchise” QB doing today?

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Sep 8, 2008 11:58 AM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

No wonder they are football "outsiders"

Usually, it’s the insiders that actually have a clue what they are talking about.

But no matter, I believe we play each other in week #3? Is this correct?

It will be really satisfying to beat up on your cherished under-achieving team.

When we beat you, what will you say then? Will you have some other idiotic and assinine statement about how despite what the facts prove, your team is clearly better than the 0-3 record suggests?

Usually, a sports fan looks forward to the rivalries their team faces; the real battles where it is actually difficult to beat your opponent. Delusional nutbars like you even make me look forward to beating up on second tier teams like the Texans.

Football Outsiders

is a far more reliable source than your rampant speculation. You’ll forgive me if I think more of their prognostication than yours.

If we are 0-3, I will have to rethink my position. This is not something I have to do after a week 1 loss, however, especially when nearly everyone except Titans fans predicted that the Texans would have a better record than the Titans in 2008. If you want to keep hanging your hat on a week 1 one win and deluding yourself into believing the Titans are a “top tier” team, be my guest. It will make the impending fall even more entertaining to watch.

In the same vein as your question, what will you have to say about the great Tennessee Titans when you are below .500 and miss the playoffs?

Also, please learn to use a semi-colon properly.

Yay, sports.

Go check the Vegas lines...

The “money” has us winning more games than the Texans this season.

If you don’t think that matters, then clearly you’ll be highly motivated to put your money where your misguided mouth is.

I imagine you’ll feel quite demoralized if you lose to the Ravens next week, but in retrospect I don’t think you will… I mean, the Ravens are a garbage team, but the Texans are merely a mediocre team. Your team couldn’t lose to Flacco and the Ravens, coud they?

(p.s. Thanks for pointing out my spelling mistakes, I never realized how important these can be on a football blog.)

by BeansCarter on Sep 8, 2008 2:19 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Vegas

Clearly Vegas, driven by its altruistic goal to provide in-depth football analysis and not by some desire to get people to bet a certain way, is a more objective observer than people who do statistical analysis and predictions for a living. How could I have doubted you if Vegas believed in the Titans?

Oh, wait, the Titans are -130 to win over 8 games and the Texans are -125 to win over 7.5. Jesus, what a spread. What clear and indisputable evidence that Vegas heavily favors the Titans! Because, obviously, there is no grey area; linemaking is an exact science, thus the Titans will win 8 games and the Texans will win 7.5. You sold me on your point of view.

Not sure what you’ll keep saying as your season shifts from ugly to un-salvageable, but I’m sure it will be priceless, awkward, will betray your level of literacy and will likely include some tired old joke about Southern inbreeding..

You are the one who started talking about people’s ability to read. Surely you extend that to spelling (which I never mentioned, leading me to question YOUR level of literacy) as well as punctuation.

Also, “in retrospect” applies to past events, not future. It means “to reflect or look back upon.” I’m pretty sure you can’t look back upon a game that is going to take place in 6 days. Though, really, considering you are basing your entire argument on previous years and a game that just happened, I guess this gaffe should not be surprising.

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Sep 8, 2008 2:57 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

It is not surprising that your

spastic, emotional diatribe departed from football and went back to punctuation issues.

The “retrospect” comment was relative to my first suggestion that you’d be 0-3, meaning that I had previously forecast a loss against the Ravens.

So, please, MDC, stop being so petty and pedantic. What are you, an unemployed high school teacher trying to relive his glory days?

Let me explain something to you…

Sports gambling, especially with respect to pro football, is a highly efficient market, where multiple sources of experts competing to gain an edge push gambling lines to their true value. Go to school and take an introductory Finance course… You will learn about a concept known as the Efficient Markets Hypothesis. In a nutshell, this theory postulates that capital markets (i.e. stock prices) quickly move to reflect all available information and converge to their market cleaing price (where supply equals demand – the true value). The more liquid and financially-oriented a trading market is, the more efficient it is. NFL betting is analogous to this notion.

I’ll take the line put out by Las Vegas Sports Consultants and subsequently adjusted by the bookies and bettors any day over the singular input of the “Football Outsiders” error-prone analysis that suffers from statistical shortfalls and fails to model psychological variables such as confidence, emotional incentive, and personnel turnover.

So where does that leave us? Slightly better than you in terms of expected record. At least that was the case before yesterday’s game. Still, you do admit that we were expected to win more games than the Texans. But now, after an ugly, embarassing week 1 loss by the Texans and a win by the Titans, I’d imagine if that bet was still available, the odds would tilt considerably in the Titans favour.

At the end of the day, our D looks mean, hungry, and dominant. We have a stud rookie running back and a tough, effective O-line. We can safely expect to win more games than your beloved Texans. After the way the Texans played yesterday, your desparate attempt to cling to the hope that they are somehow a team on the rise is shattered.

Vince who? Our season doesn’t rest on one player’s shoulders, despite what you may think.

Usually, one would be correct to say “it’s only one game”, however, when you get completely destroyed by another team in such a lop-sided way, it tends to be an excellent indicator that there are some serious issues with your team.

I can’t wait for week #3!

by BeansCarter on Sep 8, 2008 4:14 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Newsflash

Even granting that Vegas models are fluid, I stopped reading after “fails to model psychological variables such as confidence, emotional incentive, and personnel turnover.” Tell me, how the hell would you measure confidence so as to include it in an analysis? Are you suggesting that Vegas models somehow include “emotional incentive?” Are there scales for such things?

Also, please point to a specific example of the FO projections being error-prone for the reasons you cited. Otherwise, we are still left with you throwing out conjecture and speculation based on nothing but your insistence that week 1 somehow paints a picture of what the rest of the year will be.

Get back to me on the above and we can continue with this. Or ignore the assertion and continue your incessant internet trolling. Whatever.

As for your other “point,” I went to school, I majored in business (empahses in finance and accounting), and then I went on to one of the best law schools in the country. If you really want to go down this road, we can. And if you really want to pretend that your use of “retrospect” makes sense, go for it, but you are still incorrect.

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Sep 8, 2008 4:31 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I think I've proven my point.

I believe you when you say you have a law background. The fact that you went to one of the best law schools in the country is really great for you. When I have some spare time, I’ll be sure to bake you some hero biscuits and ship them over.

Your legal background would explain your twisted love-affair with punctuation. It might also explain why, as your BRB friends might say, you keep feeding the troll. Do you always insist on getting the last word in?

I did not say that Vegas “models” psychological biases. I cited this as a shortfall of FO. With Vegas lines, however, these variables are factored into the “price”. The concensus opinion of every single person who examines and bets is factored into the price, no matter how people come to their conclusions.

I won’t bother digging for evidence of FO failed forecasts since that hardly strikes me as a fun way to spend my time but with your business education you must be familiar with sample size issues, poor fit, non-linearity…blah blah blah. I’m just not interested in educating you on statistics and why they often fail to capture reality.

I am most interested, however, in proving that my team is far better than yours. Yesterday, I got one step closer to accomplishing that goal, and that makes me happy.

Now come back MDC and get the last word in, you know you want to…

by BeansCarter on Sep 8, 2008 4:55 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

What I hear you saying is...

“I won’t bother digging for evidence of FO failed forecasts since I was just talking out of my ass and I have no real idea whether that was actually true.

“I’m just not interested in educating you on statistics because I really don’t have that good of a grasp on them as evidenced by my continued insistence that they somehow only apply when they favor my team.”

"The concensus [sic] opinion of every single person who examines and bets is factored into the price, but, then again, Vegas lost on 4 to 6 games yesterday (depending on your sports book), so I guess they are pretty fallible, too.

How was that for the last word? Or do you have some “witty” retort?

Yay, sports.

And the funniest part is...

The Texans are a sucky team. Seriously.

By the way, nobody used better words to describe your Sunday spectacle than the beat writer from the Houston Chronicle…

Steelers “hammer” Texans. Schaub sacked 5 times, defense “torched” for 5 touchdowns.
In a wretched performance reminiscent of their expansion season, the Texans were surprisingly unprepared. Simply put, they were outcoached and outplayed in a 38-17 undressing by the Pittsburgh Steelers.

It only starts there…. You can read the rest here –

What a joke! Before the game you bloggers were talking smack about how great your team was gonna be this year, and more importantly how you were better than the Titans. Now, all you can do is criticize my spelling. Crestfallen much?

Now, all you can do is criticize my spelling.

Not true. We also pointed out how asinine your arguments were and made fun of you for talking shit based on one game, especially a game where your offense looked like dogshit.

Also, for the last damned time, I didn’t criticize your spelling. I criticized your punctuation and word usage (and questioned your level of literacy for continuing to suggest I said anything about your spelling).

Quick, tell me again that the Titans are better! Hurry!

Yay, sports.

LOL!

MDC, you’re beautiful. Again, not willing to talk about football, because you don’t have much to offer, do you?

You do, however, excel at being an overbearing, insecure, self-absorbed, nit-picking, pedantic, obsessive and petty blogger. You remind of a lapdog, you know… those little yappers that have a high pitched bark and nip at your heels.

I know you’re coming back, because you’re probably just deluded enough to think that a casual observer would think you’re somehow proving something here.

Except what you don’t realize is that a casual observer is probably also aware of the fact that the Texans played like a girl’s high school lacrosse team last weekend, while the Titans took out the Jags and seized first place in the AFC South. Those casual observers would also probably feel sorry for you. I know I do.

So go ahead and give me your snarky reply… Feel free to flame this post, come up with some ad hominem arguments and dodge the issue with some more prosaic head fakes. That’s what I want to see.

by BeansCarter on Sep 9, 2008 12:25 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

Facts:

You (barely) beat a team that people with any sense (read: me) picked to struggle this year.

We lost to the best team in the AFC.

You are trying to suggest that these disparate results somehow prove that the Texans suck while the Titans are great.

No head fakes here; you are just a myopic moron or a troll, either one of which is easily dismissed by anyone who doesn’t delight in irritating people (again, read: me).

You want to continue to talk about football? Your QB is an injured headcase who is one or two more boos away from suicide and who, if he doesn’t off himself, will either come back to a team that has dropped three or four games OR that has won four and doesn’t want him back. Great draft pick there.

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Sep 9, 2008 8:29 PM CDT to parent up reply reply actions actions   0 recs

I am not sure if the Titans are "great"

But yes, I do believe the facts demonstrate that the Texans suck.

I also remember the Jags beating the Steelers in the playoffs last year, 31-29 with almost exactly the same personnel and coaching staffs. Best team in the AFC? Doubtful, and certainly not because they pounded the crap out of you cupcakes.

I really hope our “headcase” doesn’t commit suicide… Your comment is about as classy as a holocaust joke in a synagogue.

I heard yesterday on FOX NFL Sunday that the Texans would upset the Steelers.

Maybe FOX can replace Terry, Howie and Jimmy on Sundays with Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, Greta Van Susteren and Shepard Smith. FOX should just air repeats of American Idol other than FOX NFL Sunday. Nice going guys, the Texans got destroyed. I think the CW should have the NFL rather than FOX after that prediction…
