David Gibbs In As Texans DB Coach
Paul Kuharsky writes here:
David Gibbs is the Texans' new secondary coach. He's got a deal and things will be finalized by next week.
It's no big surprise as Gary Kubiak basically indicated at the recent press conference announcing Frank Bush's promotion to defensive coordinator that Gibbs had an offer.
Now he jumps from Kansas City to Houston, where he replaces Jon Hoke. He's likely to get some new personnel to work with through the draft and free agency.
And so on and so forth. I like the hire. Hopefully it keeps his dad here for another year.

I know nothing of Gibbs Jr other than what I have read in the last week
Hopefully this is “Alex Gibbs insurance” so to speak. Kuharsky claims he is a “respected coach who understands how to make the back end of a defense work. He’s got seven years of NFL experience with Denver and Kansas City”. If that is accurate then he should be a productive coach. We still have Ray Rhodes so the risk factor is negligible. I am expecting an Alex Gibbs announcement any day now.

Not that it's dispositive...
but it’s not like KC and Denver have had all-world secondaries in recent years.
Still, if he’s better than Hoke (probably) and the hiring will keep his dad around (likely), I’m on board.
Yay, sports.

Ditto
Frankly, if all it means is another year of Papa Gibbs, I think this is a great move.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

I just have nothing to say about this hire
It’s not a bad thing – I just have nothing to add. He’s got some good experience, so it’s a fine hire, I’m sure.

As long as....
he can yell " turn your head around and find the damn ball", then I’m good.

Jacques Reeves' Playbook
Should include nothing but 500 pages of that phrase repeated, over and over.

If it keeps daddy Gibbs here another year, I am all for it.

You guys are joking, right?
I really don’t think Reeves’ issues have anything to do with coaching. He just doesn’t have good ball-instincts. If he gets it, he’ll get it whenever he gets it. If he doesn’t, a coach isn’t going to fix it. We talked about Reeves and how he showed SLOW but real improvement in the second half of the season, but it’s still his incredible speed that has bailed him out more times than not.
I’ll be rooting for the guy. I think if he somehow keeps the same trajectory of improvement next year, we could go from having a very bad secondary to… uh, having good corners with bad safeties. LOL
