Pool of Potential Texans Gets a Little Smaller

According to Tampa Bay Online, George Selvie plans to stay in school .

He was told by the NFl advisory committee that he would be a, "3rd or 4th round pick."

Kam Chancellor, 6-4 safety from Virginia Tech, also plans to stay in school. He needed the year to improve his coverage skills, but he has the physical tools to succeed. Definitely someone to look at next year if we are still struggling at the safety position.

I thought he was a first round talent?

I guess I just heard wrong.

I did as well

So did many, many other people. I guess NFL scouts saw something different than we did.

I think his star dropped a lot this year.

The buzz around his name died down a lot recently; I haven’t heard talk about him as a first-rounder in a while. I think he was a victim of size worries. He’s only 245. That’s OLB in a 4-3, not an NFL defensive end. If he adds 15 lbs (easier said than done) then I think we’ll see him projecting as a 3-4 OLB.

Crabtree and Maclin are coming out and they are likely to be upper 1st round picks

This should help the Texans land an impact player for the defense. Crabtree is ranked 6th and Maclin 14th by Scouts Inc. Taylor Mays is 6th and Orakpo is 10th so they may not be available, but I still like errence Cody and for some reason he has slipped to 31st. If he declares, then I hope the Texans take a long look at him.

oops my bad Crabtree is ranked 3rd, Taylor Mays is 6th.

list is here: http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/draft

Plenty of talented defensive players to choose from projected to be available in the 2nd half of the 1st round. If Smith swings a trade maybe we could get one of them and an extra pick in the 2nd or 3rd round. If not either Everette Brown, DE Fla St or Vontae Davis, CB Illinois would look good in a Texans uni.

I thought I had seen Selvie ranked on the scouts Inc top 32 list in the past

he isn’t on it now, but on Nov 21st he was ranked 26th.

Ranking players is difficult and I find it interesting to see how much the same list (i.e the Scouts Inc top 32) changes over time. With all of the all-star games, scouting combine, pro days and individual workouts left to go, no doubt the list will keep on changing until the draft finally takes place.
