New frame of mind

I would love to see Bill Cower and a 3-4 defense in 2010. If we let Dunta walk it would let us bring the hometown boy Casey Hampton here. Then we could draft a corner and safety in the first 2 rounds of the draft. This is how the defense would look.

RE - Williams/Bulman

NT - Hampton/Okam

LE - A. Smith/Okoye

OLB - Barwin/Adibi

MLB - Ryans/draft pick

MLB - Cushing/draft pick

OLB - Diles/Adibi

SS - draft pick/Pollard

FS - Wilson/Barber

CB - draft pick/Molden

CB - McCain/Reeves

Nickel - Bennett

Any thoughts?

Not giving up on this season yet

but, that would be cool. it would never happen though. why would cower want to come here?
also…short of say a 6-10 season, I just don’t see Kubes getting the boot.

I brought up moving to the 3-4 on DGDB&D last year...

And was rightfully ripped a new one for the suggestion (can’t find the post, though).

Anyway, our two best players are Mario and DeMeco, and we essentially neutralize their strengths by moving to a 3-4.

I remember that.

I just had a vision. Mario playing OLB. He definitely has the speed to cover a TE. And we all know about his pass-rushing skills.

Back to reality.

3-4. Will never happen unless we do a major overhaul this season and go back to our rebuilding phase again. I would hate to see that.

Thoughts

Look I would love to see a 3-4 but think Cush should be an OLB not MLB in that system.
I think Super Mario is not well utilized in the system unless he rotates to OLB but he would struggle on pass coverage. He could work a rotation between OLB and RE depending on the down and distance and that could work well.

I actually think they we would see even further improvement in Ryans because he would have less work filling a gap and could roam a little more.
I agree that Barwin is a great OLB, I also think that in my little mental thing that Casey could be a good nickel SS guy or MLB in a 3-4.

We would have to have some major beef upgrade in the middle to make this work. We would need three real phat (fat) guys doing the D line work.

I know everyone would rip me for this but I believe the system is so much superior to the 4-3 that even will guys that don’t quite fit it would work allot better.

Does anyone remember the 4 years we ran a 3-4 ?

Was good the first season, but you have to have a GM that can find the right guys to fit the scheme. We wasted 5 or 6 picks on Babin and P-buc, and the defense was set back years.
