The Los Angeles Football Staduim
As many of you have probably already heard, The Governator approved construction on a new 75,000 seat football stadium in Los Angeles. Majestic, the company that built the Staples Center, is in charge of this new stadium and has already named 7 teams they are targeting to move to LA. On the list are the Bills, Jaguars, Vikings, Rams, Chargers, 49ers, and Raiders. Personally I dont see the Vikings, Chargers, or either Bay Area team moving which leaves the Bills, Jags, and Rams.
Getting a team to move is rather difficult but I wouldnt be surprised to see the NFL make one move because we all know a NFL team in LA is good for the sport, even though they will be media lovebirds. I dont see the NFL expanding due to the fact that the divisions are as perfectly set as they could be without adding 8 more teams.
What' yall's take??

Not Jacksonville?
I would think that the NFL would prefer to move the Jags to LA for more market size.

I just read a mini article in today's SI about this
and they say that the 4 most likely to move are the Chargers, Raiders, Jags, and Rams. They base it all upon team contracts with cities and stadiums and the fan base. Because the Rams are already up for sale SI says they are the most likely. The Chargers have a lease through 2020 to keep them in Qualcomm but they cant be sued if they leave early and their owner has already looked at relocating to Escondido. The Raiders lease expires next year and dont get much revenue in Oakland. The Jags would be the toughest to move out of the 4 but the NFL wants to move them the most.
Another issue is divisions. If the Jags move i could see the NFL swapping the Jags and Chiefs so the Chiefs would be in the South and the (LA) Jags in the West. The other 3 already are in their respective West divisions.

I like the Jags running out of money
in Jax, or the Chiefs in our division.
I don’t like adding an LA team in our division. Sounds like they’d have MJD and deeper pockets.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

There are way too many rivalries with the Chiefs for the NFL to move them. Won’t happen.
The Kansas City/Denver/Oakland rivalries are some of the NFL’s most intense. They won’t mess with that. It’s sort of the same reason why Dallas is in the East. (I think it’s dumb, but they wanted to keep the Dallas/DC/Philadelphia/Giants rivalries going.
As I said below, Jacksonville moves to LA, and St Louis moves to the AFC South. That’s the simplest way to handle it.

I think something extraordinary would have to happen for any of the teams mentioned to move
The Rams have a new stadium, probably with a long lease that would be difficult to get out of. Same with the Jags, however, they are also in the smallest market and their fanbase isn’t strong to begin with. Let’s see…Now the Bills have been in The Ralph since 1973 and I might say they may be the team most likely to be able to get out of their current lease agreement, which I am unsure what the status of it is. Regarding Minnesota. I think they are more likely to use this situation as leverage to get a new stadium in Minnesota. Their fan interest is not lagging so I don’t see why they would leave their hometown, if a new stadium deal could be worked out. I agree on the Chargers and Raiders. I don’t think they will move.
So, if I were a betting man, I would put the Jags as the strong favorite with the Bills as the underdog second pick.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

This is easy
Jacksonville moves to LA, and they swap divisions with St. Louis.
St. Louis moves to the AFC South, Los Angeles joins the NFC West.
Simple.

Wouldn't Rams be easiest??
They are already up for sale. Their lease in the Edward Jones Dome ends in 2014 which is pretty good timing to get a stadium built. They are already in the NFC West.
I see it being Rams most likely followed by the Jags and Raiders

Thing is, things are really, really, really bad in Jacksonville. Things are bad in St. Louis, but I think the thinking is that if they find a buyer, they can keep the team in St. Louis.
St. Louis is a big sports town (unlike Jaxville) and they could easily recapture a fan base there, I think.

I think its the Jags, their ticket sales are the worst in the league, and its such a small market there trying to compete with college football.

Move the Jags
St. Louis got jobbed by Bidwell in ‘87 when he moved his Cards to Arizona. The sports fans in StL don’t deserve that treatment again.

It'll be the Chargers or Raiders
St. Louis deserves a team. A new owner will keep them there. They’ve got a good coach and some young talent, they just need some time.
San Diego and Oakland make the most sense. They’re in California, they both want new deals and being near LA would be great. San Diego would be between LA and San Diego, so I think it could work. If Oakland were good then it’d be easier cause LA fans get behind the iconic (Lakers, Trojans).
Jacksonville…well, I’d love it if Jacksonville moved to a big city that could support football and would love to support it: San Antonio, Texas.
As for the divisions, I wish Miami and Indy would switch. It’d make more sense. I know Dallas should be in the South, but it’ll never happen….but Indy and Miami should. I’d rather see Indy/NE twice a year and get Miami in the South where they should be.

I don't think the Vikes
as I remember when Red bought them and tried to move them to San Antonio the Minnesota base went into uproar. Of course I think the NFL stepped in too cause they wanted an LA team then too, not a San Antonio team.
As a San Antonio native and die hard spurs fan I hope it’s the Jags so I can have another LA rival to go along with my hate for the Lakers.

As someone who lives in SoCal(about an hour drive from the proposed stadium)
I’m hoping for the Jags. That way I can get a yearly Texans fix. If not someone in the NFC would be nice.

I think it’ll be the Jags, but I don’t see how they will stay in the NFC South.
A simple answer would be the Jags moving to Los Angeles and swapping divisions with St. Louis.
That’s the best scenario.

NFL Realignment
Any team will move anywhere. The divisions will be screwed up again. Just like the NFC East. Indianapolis is in the AFC South, yet Cincinnati is lower than Indy.

The directions are merely a guideline
Historical Rivalries (and therefore, sell outs) are more of a concern for the owners.
by distant_texans_fan on Oct 24, 2009 4:13 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
The Rams won't switch divisions
49ers and Rams have a historical rivalry and have had it since 1950.
Jacksonville would be a disaster in LA. I think they’d just have to relocate again like the Raiders and Rams have.
I think it’s gonna be the Raiders. Lord knows Al Davis needs the money and would jump at an offer and a stadium with a sponsor. I heard something a few weeks back about how Al was trying to sell small parts of the team for cash. Al in LA just makes sense.
Jacksonville, despite Wayne Weaver’s claims that he’ll never move or sell the team, will one day have to move. The only cities that could support a football team would be San Antonio (7th largest city) and Oklahoma City (a city that has tried to boost its image…and what else is there to do in Oklahoma anyway?)
by TexansDC on Oct 24, 2009 11:04 AM CDT reply actions 0 recs
I think it will be hard for San Antonio to get a team
Because McNair and (especially) Jerah will not want to have another team in Texas eating into their clubs’ revenues.
