Texans Safety Bernard Pollard Out With Flu-Like Symptoms

Remember the trainwreck the Texans defense was with Dominique Barber and John Busing starting at Safety? Well, that's the first thing that popped into my head when I heard that Bernard Pollard was sent home from practice today with flu-like symptoms.

Gary Kubiak commented on the issue that he was "optimistic" that Pollard would play this Sunday against the 49ers. Let's hope so.

UPDATE: Nick Scurfield updated via his Twitter account that Pollard returned to practice today and appears to be fine. Whew!

He really has no clue

if he’ll be healthy by Sunday, but optimistic means exactly what you said.

We should all be optimistic that he’s there. Gore is back.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

Three days of rest...he'll be there!

This flu thing is serious stuff. I stopped at Home Depot yesterday, checking out their gardening area. You know, the outdoor area behind the fence. Just walking in and there’s a middle-aged couple standing there looking at plants. Without warning, the lady, suddenly and very quickly, bends over and sneezes extremely hard…so hard…her hands on her knees….something that looked like the biggest lugie you’ve ever seen propels from her mouth and nose and in a blur it hits the concrete floor with the loudest of splats. Did I mention that I’m still about 20 yards away. It was loud. I thought someone had dropped a water balloon from about 30’ feet up. It scared the hell out of me. I covered my face and held my breath as I walked a wide berth around them. This flu can be a bad thing. God speed Bernard!

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Seriously....

Can someone line up some flu shots for the Texans?

I would challenge you to a battle of wits, but you appear to be unarmed.

by The Night Owl on Oct 22, 2009 11:25 PM CDT reply actions

Why?

They should be fine with some antibiotics. The team doesn’t need to be murdered by an ex-Heisman trophy winner. Plus I don’t think he fit in the cooler anymore.

Thank you, I’ll be here all week.

Viruses weaken your immune system making bacterial infections more likely

Antibiotics can help fend off these infections in an already weakened patient. I would imagine that Pollard has been prescribed some along with whatever the doc thinks can fight the flu.

It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

Besides

For the modern flu infection, you want Tamiflu.

I would think he will play

3 days is long enough to get through the worst of the symptoms with the flu unless you have an underlying issue it exacerbates.

I believe he will play.

Nothing new here, half the team has had it now.

Yeah but

we’re not just talking about heading back to the office on Sunday. The flu can cause considerable physical weakness. I wouldn’t be suprised if he didn’t start, but still played a decent amount.

You also need to realize

this isn’t like one of us getting sick. They send Pollard home with a team of doctors who monitor and administer medication (to avoid the physical weakness issue) round the clock and these doctors are top notch in their profession. He has a good chance of being out there and starting on Sunday. Keep your fingers crossed!

All he has to do to shut down his side of the field is vomit a few times....

That should keep them from passing his way.

Rec'd

And I’d rec it 100 times if SBN would allow it.

So you're saying that now I have to think of some witty Sig that will be applicable across all the SBN sites? Go TexanHornStroKets!

I never used to get flu shots until the last 5 years

They give them out free at work, so what the heck. I’ve had pretty good luck. Got mine 3 weeks ago and no problems. None the last 5 years too. This shot was of course the seasonal flu vaccine, not the one that has/is being made specificallyto combat the H1N1 Swine flu virus.

The President has requested...

that we stick to just “H1N1” when describing this virus because we don’t want to offend any porcine-species, because this virus is truly a “quadruple reassortant” virus and we really need to give credit to all.

Normally

I do just the opposite of what the Pres says so….I think I’ll take my chances with the Swine Flu. :-)
