Open Game Day Thread: San Francisco v. Houston
San Francisco 49ers at Houston Texans, Oct 25, 2009 12:00 PM CDT
Does the lose-win-lose-win streak end today at Reliant Stadium against the 49ers? An actual winning streak sure would be nice. I'm no expert, but I think a team hoping to post a winning record is going to have to put together at least one winning streak at some point during the year.
Leave your pre-game, in-game, and post-game calculations and cries out to the heavens in the Comments below. GO TEXANS!

Yes
I think we win this game and finally win back to back games this season.
We are the only team right now with at least a .500 record that hasn’t one back to back games… consistency is what this team needs.
The coyotes were howling last night!
They were singing in unison, “We want a win!”
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

I approach every game
With the idea that we’re going to lose. However, and I hate to jinx us, I think we’re going to win, and win handily.
I don’t see the 9ers stopping us too much on offense considering their weak pass rush, and I’m confident we can limit Gore’s effectiveness. We should be able to get some consistent pressure on their QB as well. I look for our d-line to have a lot of hurries and hopefully a few sacks.

The Texans have to win games like this. Period. If they hope to be playoff contenders.
Time for them to step up.
They have all the weapons they need. They have to execute like pros and pray we don’t get too many injuries.

We're going to win!
Its time for us to start our wildcard push!
Too bad the titans won’t be able to embarrass themselves today though.
you don't give them
enough credit.
They are embarassing even when they don’t play.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
I am just praying a good stream is up
because I really want to watch this game.
I also hope that I don’t have to take my girlfriend home today so I can get drunk while I watch, because a two hour drive requires sobriety. Boooo
no way
I strive to be drunk in many situations, just like you. But unlike Jared Allen, not on the road.
Incidentally, I also do not believe in cheap shotting opposing quarterbacks.
I've always wanted to do that with a chick

Hmmm...
I think this’ll be the first game of four solid quarters at home, but the 9ers ain’t gonna roll over easily. Going with:
JUGGERNAUT: 34
49ers: 24

dunta
after the “pay me rick” incident, he hasn’t done or said anything detrimental to the team. he doesn’t dive anymore, and last game was the first in which he hit while planting, meaning he isnt thinking about his injury as much. like it or not, Dunta is our #1.

Respectfully Disagree, Chris
Dunta’s still diving. In fact, he did it a couple of times last week. Wasn’t nearly as big a deal, though, because he tripped up the ball carrier.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Agree with Tim
Also, Houston is ranked dead last – by a mile – against the opposing team’s #1 WR.

how much of that the “Fuck dunta” sentiment, vs. how he’s actually playing? what if he stays, and signs a new contract? his teammates love him… his coaches love him. i love him! lol.. what would it take to get u guys to love him again?

me
He’s just been really bad this year. He’s got to improve. When Shake was sending me text updates last week, it seemed like half of them said “Fuck Dunta.” Upon watching the game, I had to agree.
To me, he just isn’t the same. I’m not actually a “Fuck Dunta” guy because that makes it too personal, but he’s been pretty bad. That makes the difference for me.
Personally, I’d definitely put him behind Frenchy and Quin on coverage abilities, then maybe even McCain.

If the juggernaut loses today, that would be three home losses already. I simply do not picture that happening this early in the season. Plus, we cannot let a Sand Aggie make his NFL debut be a successful one. Not after his alma mater lost to the actual Aggies last night. So weak.

crazy #'s
in 2006, we ranked 28th in total offense (279.1 total yds per)
in 2007, we ranked 14th (333.6 per)
in 2008, we ranked 3rd (382.1 per)
anyone know where we are this year?

I Think I Read In The Chronicle This Morning
That we’re top ten in total offense and No. 3 in passing (at just under 293 yards per game).
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
nfl.com says..
8th (369.5 per), and 12th in ppg (23.8)
and this year
we’re finally punching it in on a regular basis.
Those previous good/decent numbers didn’t translate to scores, but built Kris Brown into a pro-bowler!

thats what we need
to make the playoffs. Top 10 in scoring, and an average defense.
I think the Cush factor keeps us at least average on that side of the ball.

I have faith in
Kubiak’s creativity today.
There’s a lot of film on our passing attack, and their LB’s will keep a lot of our short passing game at bay. I see play action bombs, and Super Steve finally breaking the century in the second half running game.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
Revisiting the FO stats
our stats will go way up if the Raiders make the playoffs like Seymour predicts, right?
I guess stopping a run-first Gore-led offense today might take us another step towards silencing the nay-sayers about our defensive improvement?

Apparently we attempted a deep out pass to him in the Cards game that I don’t remember. But where is he in all the other games?
Goal line? Up 3 scores against the Raiders? Haven’t heard anything bad about him, but a lot good. I’d like to see what the kid can do.
Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.
yeah.
on a deep out, it would’ve been a helluva catch. casey isn’t playing because dressen and daniels are playing extremely well. cross actually gave him a shoutout, saying that the texans 3 TE are ALL better than the bengals #1

The Hump
The 3-3 start is tied for the best in franchise history. No team has ever gone 4-3. No team has ever been above .500 after the first month of the season. That needs to change.
This franchise needs to win. The 49ers are good, but we just saw a Falcons team shred their defense. The Texans have the talent to win big and if this franchise ever wants to sniff the playoffs it needs to start today.
