I'm surprised we didn't throw it away

Lots of work to do in our defensive secondary. I wish we had a decent second option at RB, because Slaton is beginning to ease into territory I once thought only Jacoby occupied.

I’m wondering if Rick Smith is wishing he’d come to terms with OD in the offseason. It looks like he’s going to end up costing us more now. At least the money that would have gone to Dunta is freed up.

Controversial Statement

I don’t think the secondary is as bad as our predictable zone schemes are.

Why don't you update your blog more often?

Also, I actually agree that our CBs are decent, with Frenchy maybe being good in man coverage. It’s awful hard to cover a big guy like Crabtree on those routes he was running.

My mom went under the knife recently

And between taking care of her obligations and taking care of my sister it’s been a rough two weeks trying to find time to do charting.

I’m planning to play catch-up this week though.

Hope all is well with your mom

My mom is now officially a cancer survivor and is coming up on the one year anniversary of her diagnosis. That’s certainly far more important than football.

What’s your early take on our d-line? Seemed kind of Jekyll and Hyde to me, but I do sense gradual improvement.

Yeah puts things in perspective

Mine is basically playing smoking versus heart, smoking is winning. Her heart is probably playing a zone defense.

I still think Antonio Smith has been a LOT better than people are giving him credit for, and Okoye has looked good from non-detailed watching. NT still obviously a problem.

I share your opinion of Smith

I still think we pressure the qb too inconsistently, but I think it’s safe to say we’ve shored up our run d.

Of course by now teams should have learned that there’s no need to throw on us when you can gobble up yard after yard in the air.

by tehGrindCrusher on Oct 25, 2009 3:58 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The thing is...

And this is very general and not-backed up, but it seems to me like we get the majority of the pressure on stunts, and when we pull the stunt off, we can’t finish.

That at least indicates to me

that we’re doing something right structurally, but need to improve technically. Which is probably better than the other way around.

Noticed that

But we also get the least amount of pressure when the stunts don’t work. It’s either an A or an F. No in-between.

Very true

Lots to learn from in this one.

However, we are still over .500, and when you consider that Kubes’ teams have closed well in the last couple of years, we could be in for a 9-7 season.

come on, lighten up. Its a win no matter what the score. If people want to cry about losing by 1 play, then I’ll take a win by 1 play just the same! Its all the same in in the win-loss column.

Its win

If we can lose to the Jags and Cards by 1 play and call it a lose no matter what, this is the same! A win is a win! The 49ers were genius coming out with that spread offense, but we held them off when it mattered most. People can complain all they want but the defense played well for the most part. My only concern is the offfensive line during run blocking and Slaton putting the ball on the ground every game.

And Slaton

He is fumbling way to much now. Did anyone notice during the Cardinals game when Moats was sent in, Slaton had a fire under him and did very well. Then all of a sudden he does not do as well. I say start moats to get the True Slaton back up and running

by BornTexan on Oct 25, 2009 3:56 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

he is fumbling more but..

he did have two TD’s today that moats probably could not have gotten. keep slaton in. we need to get tiki barber to coach him on how to carry the ball without fumbling.

This is actually a good thing. A TEST for us as a team.

Think about it.

Cards game. We come back to tie it. Game winning drive. Throw a pick to lose it.

Same situation here almost but reversed and we held.

The offense went from running and short passing game to a new QB and a spread offense in the 2nd half. That is not an easy adjustment to make.

However, Frank Bush has shown that he is capable of learning, so there’s that.

Next week scares me

The bills have a amazing secondary with ball hawks throughout. If they get a couple guys back next week too it’ll be tough, we will have to run the ball to win.

However, their offense is like the 49ers but worse. Can’t throw for shit.

by nolander on Oct 25, 2009 5:25 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Ball Hawks...

Usually are seen as Ball Hawks because of over-aggressive play, against this offense that could turn into a big day for Schaub and his recievers, Johnson or no. And i’ll say it again, there’s not a LB or Safety alive that can cover OD 1 on 1…. not to mention that with an aggressive secondary, the little screens and hitches to Slaton could turn into big big gains.

by Bryan72076 on Oct 25, 2009 5:47 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

They are just always around the ball

Trust me, if they can stop Brees through the air they can stop us. We can still get it done, but it won’t be a cakewalk through the air.
