Awesome Texans Cornerbacks

If I woulda told you that 7 games into the season, Brian Cushing would have more interceptions than all of our cornerbacks combined, would you have:
A) Thought it a joke and laughed me off the site.
B) Cried.
C) Started contemplating next year's top ten draft pick.
D) Told Rick Smith he should've paid Dunta more than 23 mil guaranteed?
Note 1: I didn't include drinking massive amounts of alcohol as I assumed that was included in all four of the above.
Note 2: Would the fact that the Texans lead the league in fumbles recovered have kept you off the ledge.? Or again, would you have laughed me off the site at the thought? Especially when I told you that Cushing was also the biggest factor in that stat?

The cornerback play...
Has not been inspiring. This game is an opportunity to put it all behind and start a new trend. Who knows? Maybe the $10 million man will get his first of the season and he will go home and wear his “Pay Me Rick!” Shoes around the house all week…
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Our secondary sucks. There will be no turn around game. We need better players in the secondary, period.

Regression to the mean...
Is going to hit us hard. Cush has forced a couple fumbles, but lots of our recoveries have been on sheer carelessness by opposing offenses. Also, awareness is nice, but there’s not really any correlation when it comes to fumbles recovered. It’s about which way the ball bounces, and right now it’s bouncing in our favor.
I seriously doubt that it’ll keep up. This team needs to start forcing TOs, and that comes with better pass pressure. I don’t blame the secondary for that. Wilson and Reeves are capable of making a play if given the opportunity. Time for Mario and co. to step up and screw up offensive timing.

also...
does it seem like we’ve been lucky lately? like, oddly lucky? can’t explain.
Note to self: Insert something witty here.

Again, regression to the mean
We’ve been so tragically unlucky in the past that eventually some good luck was going to slide our way.

I pick B as I cry in my beer
The pick of Cushing was my choice, before draft day over Mathews, so I have been blessed by his play and the fact he has lived up to the hype out of USC. The fact he has more int.‘s than our secondary is just awesome for him and just terrible for our hurting secondary. While I never considered D. Rob. the top corner even before his injury(he got burned too much then as well-for THE TOP CB in the league-according to D. Rob.) I had hoped he would come into the team and at least show up and try to make a case out of deserving of top pay. I have seen too many mediocore WR’s burn him and too many missed tackles out of him this season(when burned he has been helped by bad throws or QB’s that did not pick up the open rec.r in time to make a throw or D.Rob would have cost us some serious points!!!) The teams secondary has held in the games we have won but for the most part that has been against lesser talent of WR’s and QB’s; but even in some of those games there have been moments of complete break downs in coverage. We go up against a team with both WR’s/backs and a QB that can and will burn a weak secondary like the Texans in face off with Indy. I just hope they pick it up or we will see a game worse that the Jets put on us, next week and the following weeks of GOOD teams we will face for 4-6 weeks.
