The week after Steve Slaton fumbled for the fourth time, recently cut RB Chris Henry (formerly of the Titans) will be visiting Houston for a workout. Henry will visit the Redskins first so he may be signed before a possible workout, but the desire to try out another RB speaks volumes.

Glad that we haven't resigned him to a bigger contract.

I just hope that he doesn’t turn out to be like Domanick Davis. Williams. Or whatever the heck his name is now.

I thought he kept his maiden name?

Sadly

I am pretty sure he is our franchise’s all time leading rusher.

Game film

Kubiak said he wanted to run the ball so much during the second half of the Oakland game to get tons of game film to review. He must not have liked what he saw. Which totally screws up my fantasy team!

Not really "worried"

The thing is, Chris Henry is a pretty darn good running back, too. Chris Brown hasn’t been great, either, and I don’t think all the blame is on Slaton’s shoulders. More often than not, our run blocking has been pretty bad, but it did look better on Sunday.

Plus, Slaton showed his 2008 burst-ability a couple of times in the game. Frankly, this could be an excellent signing.

Aye this seems more of an attempt to add depth. We certainly can’t expect Brown to survive the year intact.

by nolander on Oct 5, 2009 3:38 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

please tell me this is sarcasm

Chris Henry is awful. He was a workout wonder who was drafted purely on his combine numbers but doesn’t have any vision or instincts running the ball.

Three words

1. Chris
2. Brown
3. Ouch

I'm not disagreeing that Brown isn't good

but there is a reason Henry wasn’t active for almost every game last year, he’s awful. Plain and simple. Sure, he’s big and really fast, which is why teams are going to keep taking a shot on him, but he has never produced…. ever. And I mean in college either.

In his three years at Arizona, he rushed for 2.8 ypc his freshman year, 3.5 ypc his sophomore season, and 3.5 ypc his junior year. There’s a reason for that. He has all the physical tools but absolutely nothing else that is necessary to be an NFL running back.

can't really disagree

I guess I'll just have to moon you for rebuttal.

I guess in summation

He’s like the Jamarcus Russell of running backs. When you see him in workouts, the only response is holy sh*t and then when you see him in the game, the only reaction is holy sh*t — but for a slightly different reason.

yeah...

like a bad trip, it’s all coming back to me now.

Didn't Chris Henry

Beat out Chris Brown one season ago? I think he was the reason why Brown became expendable. Maybe it will happen again…

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

Freaking excited

I’ve been a proponent of Henry’s for a few years now, and I really, really think he’d be a solid addition – especially for when Brown gets hurt or moves on when his contract is up.

He is a VIOLENT runner…. but obviously hasn’t shown much in his young career.

That said, I don’t think this has much to do with Steve Slaton at all. I think it has more to do with just improving our team.

Koobs just said he doesn't know about Henry.

Would Rick invite a player to come tryout without asking Gary? Or is Koobs just doing his normal radio interview where he refuses to really answer any questions?

If carrots got you drunk, rabbits would be fucked up.

Stevie only got

a drive or so on the bench for fumbling. CB got the whole game off.

I think Henry would be Brown’s backup at best, so whats that, 4th string?

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

Wasn't Chris Henry Supposed To Be What Chris Johnson Is?

I seem to recall everyone mocking the Titans for taking Henry when they did, just like everyone mocked them for taking Johnson when they did.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

No, no, no, no, no!

Don’t be sucked in by the workout numbers like the Titans were.

Mittens

from espn.com about Eli’s injury:

The past 24 hours have been a scary time for Giants faithful, knowing an injury could suddenly elevate veteran David Carr to the starting job this weekend against Oakland, and a serious injury could crush hopes of another championship run.

It Could Be David's Chance To Shine

Come-on David! Show us that it was the OL in Houston and bad coaching, after all!

You're killing me

If I remember correctly, I think they wanted Hardeman to take over at HB for Coleman, but Coleman turned out to be superior in every way.

And I loved me some Ronnie Coleman. For you folks who ain’t 50, he was a lot like a Mewelde Moore. Could do everything well, just not great.

Yep

I was actually in Jr. high and high school during the time in question, so I’m a couple yeard shy of 50. Fred Willis, Ronnie Coleman, and Don Hardeman were the main guys during that period. Hardeman was drafted to be Earl before Earl came along. I read or heard on the radio that they never really scouted Hardeman very well. All they knew was he was big, strong, and fast. But they found out after they drafted him that he could only run straight ahead.
