weather

mid 40’s, cloudy.

doesn’t sound that bad so far.

Eugene Wilson

listed as questionable (groin), but from Friday Kubiak said everyone’s healthy and ready to go.

So that sounds like good news about him and our secondary.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

Re: Wilson

The guy has become so indispensable to the defense that I don’t even want to imagine a secondary in which he’s not back there.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

by Tim on Nov 1, 2009 8:18 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

yeah

him for the pass and Pollard for the run. Seems like we need secondary help to have any sort of run defense.

I hope they are both our backups in 2010.

Smushiak will take us to the playoffs in 2009.

by texanphil on Nov 1, 2009 8:21 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry, but...

I still don’t see where are safeties are even average. Pollard is OK against the run but atrocious in coverage, and the opposite holds true for Wilson. The "stats" back me up (credibility of site in question, but they jibe with what my eyes tell me). Yes, Wilson has a couple of nice picks, but they are both clearly below average at their position. Safety is an incredible position of need for us.

Wilson And Pollard put together....

Would make one above average safety.

by Jordann on Nov 1, 2009 11:19 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think our safeties are about average for NFL starting safeties

Alot of the time we’re complaing about the lacky of safety help, if you watch the defensive play, they had other assignments rather than the typical deep half/corner. You can’t blame the safety when the defense is in man coverage and the CB loses his man with no one assigned to protect his back, yet many times that’s exactly what happens.

by Bryan72076 on Nov 1, 2009 9:33 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Below average

In my mind, but a huge improvement over our starting duo on opening day. Eventually, we’re going to have to draft a safety.

agreed

world’s tallest midget theory.

Note to self: Insert something witty here.

by bigfatdrunk on Nov 1, 2009 10:21 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And then

You also see occassions where they ARE playing their deep half in the zone and a reciever is open underneath the zone… Again that’s not their problem, they can’t ignore their responsibilities in order to “bite” on underneath routes or they’ll get burned on the very next play deep.

by Bryan72076 on Nov 1, 2009 9:35 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You definitely have a point. Anything thrown to Dunta’s side and we’re screwed because we rely heavily on our Ss to clean up his messes.

Note to self: Insert something witty here.

by bigfatdrunk on Nov 1, 2009 9:53 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Really?

You can’t blame the safeties for coverage lapses? Vernon Davis would beg to differ. Sure, our linebackers had number one responsibility, but the safety coming to hit him after the touchdown (ie in the area but late) didn’t help.

by JMay on Nov 1, 2009 9:56 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I'd say they're about average

But our coverage schemes are really not doing them any favors. Ed Reed would get burned in Frank Bush’s scheme, I think.

great weekend so far

Nothing beats Halloween on a Saturday (or at least a weekend)…

then the Rockets beat Portland.
SMU beats Tulsa (hell yeah!).
USC loses huge…

and the weather is “calm” in Buffalo so Schaub and Andre can be beasts for my fantasy football teams again this week.

Good weekend. Lofty weekend.

I told chris two weeks ago I thought they should cut him, at least to send a message

by AllenOU on Nov 1, 2009 11:09 AM CST via mobile up reply actions   0 recs

Interesting...

I’m all for Quin getting more PT, but against Buffalo? T.O. and Evans are speedy. Quin’s more of a physical guy. Save him for guys like Vincent Jackson and TEs in my opinion. He made an absolutely beautiful play on Vernon Davis last week; if he doesn’t have to worry about getting beaten deep he’s solid. But for this game, I’d rather have Reeves’ closing speed. This one should be about not giving up big plays, because Buffalo can’t sustain drives regardless.

Very disappointed in Okam being relegated to inactive the past 2 games, and The Fred has fallen so far so fast that his new nickname should be Dow Jones 2008.

crap!

this is not how you win. give them enough possessions and they will eventually score

by blazin_6 on Nov 1, 2009 12:28 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Amazingly...

Still tied. Still, we can’t do this sort of shit when we play Indy or it’ll be curtains halfway through the first quarter.

Thank Durga for Buffalo’s inept offense.

nice sack!

Are we capable

Of returning a punt without a penalty?

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:30 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Is fitzpatrick really white

Or is he a vampire or something.

by Bryan72076 on Nov 1, 2009 12:31 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

It's because

He went to Harvard

by DreKeem on Nov 1, 2009 12:33 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Yeah.

There’s no way they don’t score off of at least one of these. This one maybe?

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:34 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

another turnover

by NormZinNJ on Nov 1, 2009 12:33 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

WTF!!!!

WTF! WTF! WTF!

by blazin_6 on Nov 1, 2009 12:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

He's a bench player, to me.

It’s clearly mental with him. He proved last year he could do it without fumbling. But right now, even with his dangers open-field ability – he’s more of a liability than an asset.

td buffalo

by NormZinNJ on Nov 1, 2009 12:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Really

It was just a matter of time. We just made TO look good.

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

like i said

they will eventually score if given enough chances

by blazin_6 on Nov 1, 2009 12:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Dear Dunta:

That was the worst CB run support I’ve seen since Deion Sanders.

Note to self: Insert something witty here.

by bigfatdrunk on Nov 1, 2009 12:35 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Deion could

At least cover, too.

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

at least

deion would pick off the next pass

by Mookazoid on Nov 1, 2009 12:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Well it's not as bad as it looks

3 turnovers in the 1st quarter alone and only down by 7, could be ALOT worse

by Bryan72076 on Nov 1, 2009 12:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

If Buffalo

Were even remotely competent, yes it would be. But we’re trying to level the playing field apparently.

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:36 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We're lucky it's only 7-0

I mean, three TOs and only given up one score.

If they’re a good team they can still for sure turn this around.

by HoustonDiehards on Nov 1, 2009 12:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Byrd

Has more interceptions in this game than our entire secondary does in the season.

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:37 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

The more disappointing player:

Think I know how this will go but I’ll say it anyway:

Steve Slaton or Dunta Robinson?

- Rivers McCown, From Mom's Basement

by riversmccown on Nov 1, 2009 12:38 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Slaton

I thought DUnta would be down even before everything

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Dunta

He just doesn’t get the opportunity to hand the ball over

by kaizer on Nov 1, 2009 12:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Looks like your game's starting out the same as mine. Denver's offense is doing nothing and just gave the Ravens 3 points off a fumble.

Guardian of the Gate to La La Land!
Gonsoulin, Taylor, Little, Wright, Gradishar, Atwater, Davis, and Sharpe...
Why are they not in the Hall...I just don't understand.

by Mike Clark on Nov 1, 2009 12:39 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Moats

3 carries, 26 yards… Slaton 1 for 1 I think

Schaub's got tunnel vision.

If Byrd is all over AJ, it might be time to look for K-Dub. Mix it up and whatnot.

by Nashmeister on Nov 1, 2009 12:41 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Uhhh

Kevin Walter on Aaron Schobel?

- Rivers McCown, From Mom's Basement

by riversmccown on Nov 1, 2009 12:42 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Just need to settle down

Because – incredibly – we can at least have a little trust in our defense… especially against this Bills offense.

by HoustonDiehards on Nov 1, 2009 12:44 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Unless

TO is running….

by JimboTexan on Nov 1, 2009 12:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Like the offense is giving us a choice atm

by kaizer on Nov 1, 2009 12:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Just wait

For the end of half zone

- Rivers McCown, From Mom's Basement

by riversmccown on Nov 1, 2009 12:44 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs
