NFL Defends Moats Fumble Call

Per PFT...

The NFL has agreed with the ruling on the field regarding the Moats fumble, saying there's just not enough evidence to rule anything else.  Mike Pereira (NFL's head of officiating): "We could never find a shot that showed the ball touched out of bounds... We could never find a shot that showed on TV that it touched one of the players while they were out of bounds."  They also agreed that Powers touched the ball before re-establishing position in the field, resulting in a touchback.

My ruling of their ruling: 3 dismissive wanks and an eye roll.

Come on.

It was a tough call, but the Ref made the right one in the end. It was the worst possible result for us, but the Officials made the correct call in the end.

I'm a bit of a conspiracy theorist....

when it comes to the Texans playing, the NFL favorites, not in any other way though.
It’s really a mute point anyway, because we did take the lead after that and they didn’t score as a result so it’s done.

The bottom line…..HOLD ON TO THE FOOTBALL!

GO TEXANS!!!!

The Refs blew that call.

There wasn’t undisputable evidence allowing the ruling on the field to be overturned. If it was ruled Colts ball in the first place I would agree with their decision, but they gave the Colts the ball without seeing undisputable visual evidence.

There is indisputable evidence of a fumble

and of the colts recovering it. The problem I see with it is that the ball was blown dead on the field. I thought the rule was that once the play is blow dead anything after the whistle cant be reviewed because the Texans could have stopped playing at the whistle.

They changed that

After Ed Hochuli blew that call with Denver last year. Now they can change a fumble ruling and give possession to the recovering team. Even after the whistle.

So you can blame Jay Cutler for that one.

Other headlines I wouldn't be surprised to see

“NFL fines all WRs for considering celebration”

“NFL defends Roger Goodell for eating kittens”

“NFL claims no referee has missed a call in football history”

Note to self: Insert something witty here.

They might not be able to see the ball hit a Colts player out of bounds

But from the trajectory of the ball it’s obvious that it did hit a Colts player, and that player was flat on his back out of bounds at the time… I get that they’re just following their rules and all, but it’s a little cheesey to reverse the call on the field and give the Colts possession even though still to this day no one can say for certain it was the right call. I just think the indesputable evidence should have to exist on all facets of the play, not just “oh he definately fumbled but we can’t see whether it went out of bounds or not so we’ll give to the Colts just in case”.

Indisputable?

I thought there had to be indisputable evidence for a call on the field to be overturned?

If the NFL cannot prove that the play WAS NOT a fumble, then they cannot prove that it WAS a fumble inconclusively.
