Bernard Pollard: Best. Interview. EVER!

This was too great not to make sure every Texans fan hears it.

In an interview with 1560 The Game today, Bernard Pollard was getting everyone fired up. In short, he will knock the piss out of you!

Do yourself a favor and listen to the whole interview.

About time

I’ve been waiting for a long time to hear a Texan talk like this. Can’t wait to see what they do on MNF!

by Tex Vet on Nov 18, 2009 3:15 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I'm glad to hear that this is his first Monday Night Game...

He is already a pyscho on the field and now he gets to showboat on MNF…..I would NOT want to be the ball carrier come Monday.

The part about...

listener emails saying he needed to stop talking and pumping everyone up or they were going to knock the piss out of a co-worker had me laughing out loud.

That was one of the best interviews I have ever heard from a player. Listening to that made me want to knock down all the walls of cube. Cube, no more.

HA!

Pollard said Cush is like Bobby Busche (S.P.?) from the Waterboy. Gatorade, Gatorade, H2O! H2O! I am now even more ready for Monday night, dammit, hurry up and get here! Bonecrusher please knock the piss out of VY and CJ. Make CJ scared to take a hand off. And Bobby please feel free to hit both guys like you did to Col. Sanders.

That man is gonna kill somebody. Get word to him that Bud Adams’ Texans season tickets are right behind Steph. Maybe we get lucky and beelzebud sits there Monday and Bonecrusher makes a Bobby Boucher type detour.

That was awesome

It really seems like we’re turning a corner on our defense, with he and Cushing sticking out along with DeMeco and Mario (who already stuck out). We’ve got a lot of pieces coming together defensively right now. Antonio Smith is playing well and a huge upgrade too.

Love Pollard’s attitude. And he’s played terrific.

I like

how he combined Mario and DeMeco into one super defender named DeMario. DeMario rivals Patrick Willis in ability.

Change of scene

Sometimes, a change of scenery can do wonders. Sometimes we need to just start over with a clean slate. When we do so, suddenly, the boring becomes the exciting, and we get a renewed sense of joy in what we do.

It sounds like Bernard Pollard really needed a change of scene from KC. He sounds excited, hyped up and excited about his new teammates. We need to lock him up.

On the flip side, sometimes it takes one or two outsiders to come in and provide a fresh eye to things. Both Pollard and Cushing have provided such insight to the Texans. They have electrified that locker room.

In the middle are the fans, who see the renewed energy and are excited as all get out.

This team is getting an identity – finally.

Re: Extension

Love Pollard’s attitude, love that he professes to enjoy it here, love the leadership, love his tackling, love his aggressiveness in the run game, etc.

But I will not get Will Demps’d again.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

by Tim on Nov 19, 2009 10:17 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think we're safe

simply because the parallels aren’t that great. Demps was almost 28 when we got him; Pollard isn’t 25 yet. Demps was an undrafted FA out of San Diego State; Pollard was a second-round pick out of Purdue. Demps was an aspiring male model / free safety thrust into a strong safety role; Pollard was born to knock the piss out of people. Ummm… Demps’ hands were made of concrete; Pollard’s hands are (to my knowledge) fleshy.

Yay, sports.

Tim

That’s like saying you don’t ever want to take another RB in the 2nd round because you don’t want to get Tony Holinngs’d again. Pollard and Demps are completely different situations. But MDC pretty much fielded all my points.

What’s this guy gotta do for you to be aboard the “Pollard staying in Houston long-term” bandwagon?

Hollings and Demps Are Totally Different Situations

Big difference between a rookie acquired via the supplemental draft and a veteran signed after the season started.

Pollard, like Demps, was brought in off the street after the season started. Demps, like Pollard, looked much better than the garbage that had preceded him. Demps, like Pollard, wasn’t exactly a ball-hawking safety. Both were far stronger in run support than they were in defending the pass (though admittedly, Pollard is better than Demps against the run).

I’m not saying that I don’t like what Pollard has done. I do. I’m simply saying that we shouldn’t overreact to a few productive games from Pollard in the form of a lucrative contract extension.

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

by Tim on Nov 20, 2009 1:06 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Demps

was never built to be a SS, though. Pollard is and always has been. I think that’s the real difference.

On the flip side, I agree that we need to see how he finishes out this season before we even start talking more money.

Yay, sports.

by MDC on Nov 20, 2009 5:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That he was cut by the Chiefs and unemployed for > 1 week is downright amazing

Really makes me wonder how good a job the GM’s (collectively) of the league do in tracking the talent of the availabble player pool. This guy has played sensational football for us. How in the world did KC think cutting him was a good idea?

4 days to MNF……..GO TEXANS!!!!!!!!!

It took the Astros 44 years to get to the Series, the Oilers-Texans are due to get to the big dance...Go Texans!!!!!

by oiler-texan diehard on Nov 19, 2009 1:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

According to Pollard he was being black balled by the Chiefs and had to get Herm Edwards to call around for him.

by nolander on Nov 19, 2009 2:03 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

That makes even less sense. Accept that he was being black-balled by a single team

that happens all the time, in all walks of life, usually originating from some childish personal dispute. Not being signed by any other team in the league is what I find surprising. When I heard he was cut by KC, and had been unsigned for a brief period, I was expecting absolutely nothing. Rick Smith is more lucky than smart, because if he knew how good Pollard is, he would have brought him in immediately for an interview.
