Colts @ Texans: Rants and Rants Thread

It's like watching a movie in slow motion.  The trains head toward each other at full speed, and there's nothing you can do to stop it.

Let it all hang out here.

SPECIAL NOTE: Please DO NOT feed the trolls.  Just simply ignore them.  There really are intelligent, thoughtful Colts fans, and it's my expectation they'll be treated as such.  Thank you.

Good game

I felt in the first half like you all probably feel now. Good luck with the rest of your games.

alright i am now jumping on the kubes out houston bandwagon

he is a great one half coach, not two half coach. i want a coach who is consistent through out the game and actually makes adjustments at halftime. maybe we can beg mike shanahan to come coach with his son.

either one would be an upgrade

Shanahan no way

Shanahan would just be Kubiak heavy I would just rather stay with Kubiak. I would have the same problems with Shanshan that I do with Kubuiak. I was thinking that Holmgren would be a nice fit he has a lot of knowledge about the west coast offnese. I would welcome Cowher but if he comes we are going to be down for a year or two due to the lack of defensive players that we have that would fit the 3-4 defensive scheme he is certain to bring

Hate to say it...

but I never thought we would win today, even when we were up 17-0. Its probably due to a combination of things including Peyton, a continual lack of discipline on the Texans, and a requirement for the Texans to only play 30 minutes or less of football.

but that might have been because I was in Indiana for that game and was so ready to wear my DeMeco jersey around the campus of Indiana University.

Plus I always expected us to lose today, being that we are the Texans and that is our specialty.

If I Could Change One Thing

Sigh, this game made me open an account to this site, one which I am always amused by after these types of games.

I’m upset at Kubes but I don’t think we should switch out coaching staffs. Unless the only switch is Kubes for Shanahan Sr. Think about it, another HC, another offense, another defense. It’s pretty obvious that the defense is starting to turn things around, to the likes of which we have NEVER seen in the Texans. Cushing is a monster and is reducing Demeco’s bargaining power this offseason every single week. I underestimated the impact of Owen Daniels injury on the offenese, a player who I think will definitely be franchised this offseason. Dunta, if it wasn’t for injuries you should have been cut before week 9, you are just a “body” out there. Don’t get me started on how ridiculous Vince made you look last week with that Juke in the flat.

I think we should all try and have short memories here. This team is forever on the cusp, but I don’t think turning the front office (or player personnel) into a revolving door is going to do us any good, short term or long term. This time is very inconsistent, but they are stable. It’s only matter of time till those Ws start to turn in our favor. That being said there is definitely a killer attitude missing with this team. The kind of attitude power houses have when they step on the throat of a team down 17-0.

by ODOD on Nov 29, 2009 4:05 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

It's not a revolving door. 4 years of mediocrity.

Look at the coaches who have held their jobs as long or longer, all of them have been to the playoffs except Coach .500

The team has the talent, could use a little more, but the culture needs a change. Usually, that happens with a coaching change especially if that coach doesn’t tolerate crap.

by TexansDC on Nov 29, 2009 4:08 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Agreed

I totally agree with you. The problem I have is I love all of the pieces in place, including the offensive and defensive schemes. But when it comes down to it I guess winning is all about attitude. I would just hate to have to wait ANOTHER 3yrs to get that attitude inline with new offensive and defensive schemes.

by ODOD on Nov 29, 2009 4:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

So...

So you’d rather give Kubiak a 30 year contract and cross our fingers that he’s successful?

by footballfan412 on Nov 29, 2009 5:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

No you moron

I just think that there is plenty to be excited and hopeful for. He has taken our offense leaps and bounds from where he got it. The defense IS turning around, thanks to his ability to intelligently and cheaply get offensive talent. I’d say let him ride it out until the contract trifecta occurs: him, schaub, and Rich’s deals are done. Remember we lost a PRO BOWLER on offense three weeks ago. It’s really starting to show IMO.

by ODOD on Nov 29, 2009 6:33 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Fuck, you, asshole.

I am a five year season ticket holder, and I am sick of this bullshit.

We had a lot of things going for us this year: An easy schedule, Andre healthy, Schaub stepping up, Cushing kicking ass as a Rookie, Pollard coming in and making a difference.

If the loss of OD has made that big of a difference, we have much bigger problems.

You want to give Gary a lifetime contract, go right ahead.

McNair had better move his ass or he will deal with an angry paying fanbase.

by ODOD on Nov 29, 2009 6:58 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Uh no

I was having a serious conversation. A lot of fans have actually said that we can’t get rid of Kubiak because we don’t know what the future would bring. I think that’s bad logic.

by footballfan412 on Nov 29, 2009 7:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

But Seriously

30 yr contract, seriously? If I want to get a new coach, I want that new coach to have a partner GM and staff. I think Rick has done well in the draft and that the he should have a great influence in the coaching choice because he will very close with him and need to have familiarity with the ‘new’ schemes to be in place. I think it should be an all or nothing approach. Isn’t it reasonable to also expect some leadership among the players, not just the coaches, as well? Coaches coach, but the players are out there and should be excuting and motivating (see Peyton Manning, Chris Johnson, Larry Fitzgerald, etc)

i'd slit my wrists to the sound of kubes staying here for thirty years

or hell i’d still do it if he was here past this year. im sick of him. he never never never makes any halftime adjustments. sure, we had a great first half, so the colts are going to adjust to what we are doing. i wonder if kubes knows that. he should draw up a new gameplan for the next half, but no, he doesnt, and we get destroyed in the second half. let kubiak finish the season, then look for a new coach.

Sigh

I specifically said NO to the lifetime contract, tonto. And why would the lose of a Pro Bowler causing us to lose be THAT big of a deal? It’s called irreplaceable talent. I’m not telling you to buy season tickets, that’s your decision. Angry mob syndrom is never good.

by ODOD on Nov 29, 2009 6:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

You made my points for me

There is plenty of talent to be “hopeful for,” but how long will we always have to be “hopeful?” Last year we were hopeful we would make the playoffs or have a winning record, that didnt happen. This year we were hopeful and expecting the playoffs or a winning record, neither of those look very likely.

We did lose a pro bowler, but good teams push on through injuries as they are a huge part of the game. IMO a good coach, especially an offensive mind like Kubes, should be able to adjust to losing a player even if he is a pro bowler.

Kubes doesnt have the fire, he cant get his team to play 60 minutes of good football, and the Texans dont have discipline, one of the biggest tell tales of a bad coach in my mind.

Exactly. We have like 95 Tight Ends. We should have been able to adjust. OD is a big loss, but I hope he doesn’t become this year’s excuse like Hurricane Ike was last year.

by footballfan412 on Nov 29, 2009 6:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

We also have like 95 receivers

But if Andre goes down, we won’t win another game

by ODOD on Nov 29, 2009 6:53 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Completely agree with ODOD

Alot of us fans constantly forget that we have a huge, gaping hold in the CB1 position, and now in the FS1 spot. Not only that, but we’re playing Shaun Cody and Jeff fuck-me Zgonina in a spot that neither of them belongs because Okam just isn’t the least bit good, it would appear. Should I move to offense, where any dlinemen with any kind of girth will completely bitchslap our tridium of interior linemen?
Ignore them if you want, but these holes are gargantuan, and no team could win consistently with them. If Rick can fix just ONE, I think we win 2-3 more games. Figure out a way to fix TWO, and we can legitimately talk playoffs, my friends.
And please don’t say, “well, those are holes we had last year too.” While you’re right, we also had SS, OLB and DE on that list. Can you admit that Pollard, Cushing and Smith/Barwin have filled those?
Point is, you can’t fill every hole in one or two offseasons. This team was so devoid of talent when Kubes showed up that we at least need to wait until the talent voids are 90% filled before we axe a pretty good coach.

Kubiak needed to do at least two of three things this year:

1. Winning Record Overall – ( at this point we have to go 3-2 to even break even, 4-1 for a winning record.)

2. Winning Record in Division – Fail.

3. Playoffs – (We have to win out and hope the rest of the AFC completely fails, again this is unlikely)

The reality here is that kubiak now has to post a 4-1 record down the stretch to achieve the first goal and the other two goals are essentially out of reach. We could theoretically make the playoffs, but it would require alot of much better teams collapsing.

In short, this season now borders not simply on a repeat of 2008, but potentially a regression.

If Kubiak fails to post 10 wins, having lost in the division and failed to make the playoffs, I believe that he has to go.

Bacon tastes good... Pork chops taste good.

by beefy on Nov 30, 2009 10:21 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Exactly.

Let me help you out as you appear to have trouble taking a thought beyond one or two steps.

9 wins is an improvement in their overall record.

However, since they will fail to post a winning divisional record AND miss the playoffs, I believe that 10 wins will be necessary for Kubiak to keep his job.

In other words, 9 wins while improving slightly, is not sufficient given the other glaring failures.

As for this gem, “With logic like that, it’s no wonder you’re so popular here.” I have no idea to what you are referring. So I will just assume you are making another hyperbolic personal attack and ignore it. Par for the course.

by beefy on Nov 30, 2009 11:17 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The reality here is....

Kubiak started with a team that wasn’t used to winning. A roster that wasn’t capable of competing. We had “The Corpse Formerly Known as Anthony Weaver” as our starting LDE, Anthony fucking Maddox and Travis Johnson as our starting DT’s, Shantee Orr and Morlon “Matt’s lover” Greenwood as our WLB and SLB, P-Fag as our CB and Dexter McCleon as our NB, Glen “Black version of Matt Stevens” Earl and C.C. “Can’t Cover” Brown as our safeties and that’s on defense alone! Most of those holes have been filled with talent. Meco and Mario was drafted the same year Kubes came in so basically, he had to fill 11 holes in the defense. ALL 11! Like what Beefy said, a couple more and we’ll be in the playoff hunt. He did about the same with the offense, im not gonna expand on that because it hurts my brain just thinking about Captain Hairspray as our QB and Ron “I love me some pie” Dayne as our starting RB. Overall, Kubiak has done a good job, he turned a hapless team into a competitive one and oh by the way this is his first gig as a head coach. He just needs to learn how to win and from the looks of it, he will. Just give him time.

by Jordann on Nov 30, 2009 10:57 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

God its depressing how bad they were before Kubes isn’t it? It really does make me want to give him another year.

by nolander on Nov 30, 2009 11:08 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

And that's just on defense.

We had Dexter Wynn returning punts! We fielded 267 points and yielded 366. This season with 5 games to go, we already scored 259 points and have only allowed 243.

Some people here are acting like spoiled colt fans. We’re texan fans. We’ve been through hell and we’ll keep going through hell because in the end, it’s all worth it.

by Jordann on Nov 30, 2009 11:16 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I can understand some of it personally. Watching the team dominate half of a football game time and time again only to fall on their faces does not make a coach look good. I still think kubes with another year could get us to the playoffs, but I could understand Mcnair going in another direction.

Kubiak sucks **** for fun.

Texans got straight up outcoached in the second half without a doubt. When Schaub threw the pick 6 we hadnt even tried to run the ball that series. On first down what do we do… Run the ball? No, we try to hit our former linebacker fullback with a pass.

Thanks Kubiak, thanks for really instilled a killer instinct into this team. He has built a team of young players that almost win every week, yet lose almost every time.

by AFTexan on Nov 29, 2009 4:30 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well at the beginning of the season I predicted that...

This team would go 8-8 again because they didn’t look any different.

A few game into the season I started to drink the kool-aid….bad move.

I am reverting to my 8-8 prediction.

Furthermore, i think it is safe to say that Kubiak is failing epically in the two things he HAD to do here.

1. He is not taking this team to the post-season.
2. He is losing game after game in the division.

I like Kubiak, but he is an offensive coordinator, not a head coach.

I say fire Kubiak RIGHT NOW and hire whoever it is McNair is going to get.

give the new coach the maximum amount of time to start turning this team into the team he wants.

Again, I don’t hate Kubiak, I like him alot, but as an Off. Coordinator, NOT a head coach.

i agree

and i also believe that we could do SOOO much better with a 3-4 D. its not like we have an amazing front 4, so might as well drop the weaker links and pick up some LBs in the draft

Some people say "If you can't beat them, join them". I say "If you can't beat them, beat them", because they will be expecting you to join them, so you will have the element of surprise.

3-4

So many people think it’s so easy to switch to the 3-4 and dominate but it is very difficult to get the right personnel for it, namely a very big, dominant nose tackle. And NT’s like that are not easy to come by.

This is assuming that any of these guys fall to us. Considering we desperately need secondary depth, a NT, a new interior lineman and a proper short yardage back there is no way we can afford to trade up.

I would rather take a NT first if one falls to us because if we get a real NT I think it will make Okoye that much better and with Mario healthy hopefully will help cover up depth issues at both corner and safety.

If we take a running back before an interior lineman I will rage so hard its not funny. What would be the point of it? An impact interior lineman will be far more effective then running anyone behind the interior line we have now.

My hope is that we can get an extra 2nd or 3rd round pick by trading back in the first and maybe using some late rounders to move up.

by nolander on Nov 30, 2009 2:09 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The draft is simple really...

1st pick should be the best defensive player available. Suh’s not gonna be available where the Texans draft. If they want a Barry or Suh then they have to trade up.
2nd round? Either a promising power RB or any offensive line man. If we could replace Chris Brown then I’d be happy. We also could use more linemen.
2nd or 3rd round? Boise St CB Kyle Wilson. He’s a playmaker.

Then anyone who adds depth to the S position and OL position.

But the draft can wait…plenty of months to think it all over.

by TexansDC on Nov 30, 2009 2:15 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Is there anyone on offense?

Especially someone between 13-22 since that’s where we’ll be?

I’m thinking someone like Sean Rodgers or Albert Hayensworth. Maybe not that big, but you get the idea. Aren’t there a couple solid NT available in free agency after this year? I would love to go out and get one of them if so freing us up to improve elswhere.

by nolander on Nov 30, 2009 3:10 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Im down with that suggestion.

Why wait for a rookie to flourish when you can get a quality NT from free agency. Unless there’s no quality NT’s available. I heard Travis Johnson becomes a free agent after this season, maybe we should pick him up.

Preseason Concerns vs. Today's Game

I thought that the stability of the starting line-up, and the new DC would be an issue simply because it would take several games for everything to gel. Add the inevitable injuries to that lack of stability and you get a big red flag. I think that was the problem early in the season.

That said, I think today’s loss can be laid on Schaub (forcing passes into coverage), the play calling (departing from the successful game plan of the first half), and the receiving corps (dropped passes and perhaps, blown routes). However, the team compositon doesn’t seem to match-up with the styles of Holmgren and Cowher, and Gruden and Big Shanny would want control over personnel, which neither has shown the ability to effectively control.

So, barring a collapse, I’m sticking with Kubes, at least for another season.

by kozanack on Nov 29, 2009 5:51 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

you make some good points

but wouldnt the play calling and a lack of chemistry between the QB and WR be the fault of the coaching staff, play calling especially?

The Texans once again this season played only 1 half of football. We had a good lead at halftime and we let em off the hook, AGAIN!

Isnt going from 5-3 to 5-6 losing all three games vs division rivals a collapse? We are 1-4 within the division, 0-3 at home vs the division and 2-4 at home overall. Thats a collapse from the home success we had last year and once again, Kubiak has failed within the division.

Letter from a Colt's fan.

I have been a football fan for many many years and a Colt’s fan way before the Manning era. I know the heart ache of just such a loss. However, your Texans are one of the most talented teams in the league. Andre is the best receiver playing today and Matt is developing into an elite talent. No team has exposed the weaknesses of my Colt’s like the Texans. I hope we can learn and get better because of it. Anyhow, I believe there are coaching and play calling issues with your team that can and will be corrected. We had issues under Mora, even with Peyton under center. I know, from experience, that it is hard to be patient but your time WILL come.
Anyhow, great game. I thought our defense had all but given up in the first half. Quite a scare today. I wish you luck going forward.

That's all real great

but how about not finishing in Fing last place in our division year after year. You need to realize that we are ALWAYS in the bottom of our division so please understand all of our upcoming season will only be a race for a wild card spot and I don’t want to say that but that is the reality of the situation. The way the tits are playing now they will most likely have a better record than us when it’s all said and done. The Colts own us and teh tits do to a certain degree and we are 50/50 with the Jags. I’ve read so much about the progress we’ve made but get real, we are still a .500 ball team in the AFC that has no shot at winning our division any time soon. Until we can even compete within our division you can talk about all the draft picks you want and giving Kubes another year but wake up to reality and understand an entire team shake up wont really set us back and so what if it does, finishing 8-8 year after year after year just mean you play meaningless football. This franchise sucks and it needs to be shaken up – from the top down.

but we were lucky to split games with Tits and HOPEFULLY we can split with JAX and the Colts powned us. Nothing about any of that makes me feel any better. Please also remember in your reference to the other teams in our division one is the Jags who play like us and the other was a team that started 0-6 and currently have the same record as us.

OAKLAND and CINCY…the first TEN game was a lucky fluke looking back . . .this team is NEVER ready to play 60 minutes of football…freakin Billy Bob Thornton could do better and he was just acting playing coach Gaines in FNL…but like that movie ended, we probably will never see the Texans win jack freakin squat except in a post-script comment as long as the status quo remains . . .

The way they play, they leave hope in you as fans. You always know if they did something another way, they could have won the game. Hope is a fanbase’s worst enemy, just look at the Lions. Quite a bit of talent, you know they could do something if they were more organized, but they keep losing. Even last year when they went 0-16, they were at least close in most of those games.

For those junkies who want another hit of the Deep Blue Stuff...

…the Ravens win, Steelers loss, and Jags loss puts the 2nd wild card slot at 6-5. 1 game ahead of your Texans. The next games? Jacksonville, Seattle, St. Louis, Miami, and New England (who holds a comfy lead over Miami). There’s your hook to sneak back in…..cause there’s a chance at the playoffs and next week (week 13) is still a meaningful game.

Fuck Dunta

Look what he did during the game at the bottom of LZ’s blog:

http://blogs.chron.com/fantasyfootball/2009/11/this_will_probably_be_the_game.html

He needs to be removed from this team after this season, we can draft or find someone better. Remember how last year we were roasting Reeves because qb’s were picking on him all the time, this season, Dunta is getting picked on by quarterbacks every week and has actually played his worst ball.

Kubiak and Frank Bush should be fired after this season after what I saw from today (especially from what LZ pointed out in his blog from the game). If we had a coach like Cowher this shit would not happen (referring to the celebration), and if it did the coach would be getting into the players face masks and laying the whip.

We have the talent on the team (except for a few pieces), we just need a better coach who can bring it all together.

Big Shanny

Is a big proponent of the Dinky O-Line. I am no NFL coach, but I am not a fan of it. Let’s get a coach in here who will put the O-Line on steroids! I am a big fan of O-Lines that push D-Lines out of the way. The growing and athletic D-Lines are really what is dictating that preference. They have become so huge. Look at D-Lines with big nose tackles like the Jets or Ravens. The D-Line is so disruptive themselves, they create additional opportunities for LB’s. This team has neither the big O-Line or D-Line. Why? Why does Kubiak continually handicap his team with these Dinky Lines?

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Nov 30, 2009 7:56 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

The Titans have the #1 rush offense

The average size of the Titans’ offensive line – 6’ 5", 305.4
Our current offensive line – 6’ 4", 304.6
Our line with Pitts and Briesel – 6’ 5", 310.4
Incidentally, the Steelers, who typify smash-mouth football, have an average O-line size of 6’ 5", 328, but are 15th in rushing and have given up 29 sacks, compared to 21 for us. It seems talent is a bigger issue than size.

I do believe we need more size on our D-line. If only Okam had the heart and drive of Cushing or Pollard, we’d be set.

by LedTexan on Nov 30, 2009 9:48 AM CST up reply actions   1 recs

Your examples are not ordinary and not really supportive of the small O-Line

The Titans have probably the hottest RB in the NFL in Chris Johnson. He makes yards where there aren’t any yards. He gets to spaces that no other back can get to. Sure, we all like to see the O-Line get credit where it is deserved, after all, it is a team game. But, even when trying to make an argument for a small O-Line, you have to give Chris Johnson the credit for what he is doing. He is truly awesome, this season and quite possibly on track to break Dickerson’s single season yardage record. Those big runs, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60 yards down field, I don’t see any of his O-Lineman following him and making blocks down there.

The Steelers have Ben Roethlisberger at QB, who is known to hold onto the ball too long. I cite his propensity to be sidelined by concussions on a yearly basis as my evidence. He gives up the sack, but he also makes a lot of plays by extending the play a couple extra ticks. I wouldn’t necessarily blame the O-Line on that.

I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?

by Rip Jersey on Nov 30, 2009 11:30 AM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Wrong...

CJ is good, but his talent is a little shiftyness and a shit ton of speed. You miss one tackle and he’s gone.
However, where you’re wrong is in the assessment of Tennessee’s oline. They’re great run blockers. They’ve been great run blockers for about 5 years now… Way before CJ showed up. Pick a different team to cite as an example.

Bacon tastes good... Pork chops taste good.

Have you watched the Steelers play the last couple years? They are better this year, but have been atrocious at keeping guys of Rothlisberger, regardless of how long he was holding onto the ball. Not to mention he seems capable of breaking out of sacks better then most if not all QBs

The anti-Kubiak train is streaming downhill and there’s no stopping it now. I could point out that our last 3 losses were to a very good resurging Titans team, and to an undefeated Indy team that many think are a lock to reach the Super Bowl (again). But at this point, no one cares. So get rid of him, and bring in whatever coach you think has the ability to get us over the hump. But I’m not getting any younger or healthier, so he damn well better turn us around fast, or else I might have to get all Vince-Young-fan on some of you here. :)

The Texans are a good team, but poorly disciplined. The building blocks are there; good QB, decent O-line, good pass rush. The rest of it’s mental, and the Texans just aren’t thinking like a playoff team yet.

Give it time. Firing Kubiak will only make it worse.

Watched the game

In Dallas at the Northpark mall. Had to take the wife shopping and have no TV at the new house, so I settled in at, of all things, a Dallas Fan shop where they had the game on, found a chair, and bought something so they’d leave me alone. Once they figured out what I was doing, the inevitable Cowboy fan hysteria reared its head “Gonna choke! Gonna choke!”

But I just smiled and watched us build our lead, the demons of last week’s loss slowly receding. Then the second half came, and, well, you only imagine the heckling. Afterwards, I took a few parting shots from the cowgirls and left, I just kind of wandered off, no words.

I wasn’t angry, or sad, or any of those things. Somehow, it was all completely predictable. Maybe it was the Rosencopter from last year, but no matter what our lead, I just never feel like we have a chance when we play an actual good team. And for me, that’s the worst thing about Kubiak’s Texans. As much as I want to believe, deep down I never really think we have a chance.

After the loss to the

Tits I left the emotion out. I settled in to watch the game peacfully for the first tme this year not expecting much from the Texans and I got exactly what I expected. You all knew we would blow that lead. You all knew we would come out and lay an egg in the second half. You all knew we would not score TD’s in the redzone and you knew we were going to turn the ball over. It’s like that movie groundhog day you know what’s going to happen already but you just don’t really expect it to be that way even though it is. Maybe I will pick back up my emotions next year while they lead me to believe they are a new and improved team but all the things I listed above aren’t new. They aren’t new to the Kubiak era or the Capers era. This is the same old team no matter if they are 8-8, 7-9, 9-7 or 2-14. We are what we are, a team that struggles to make it to .500.

I haven't had a chance to watch the DVR of the latest debacle,

so I was wondering if you guys that watched on TV could answer a few questions for me.

#1. Was it me, or was that roughing the passer call on Antonio Smith a horrible, horrible call ?

  1. Watching from the stands, it looked like that critical PI call on Frenchy was not even close to pass interference, and also an uncatchable ball. Made it seem like the officials were giving Peighton a hand. Did the replays confirm my beliefs ?
  1. Did anyone else notice that while Cunta and the defense was busy celebrating the big hit on Addai, that Paightan got to the line and snapped it, completing a 30+ yard passing play ?
  1. We were finally running the ball well in the first half, why did Koobs abandon the run in the 2nd half ?

Just finished watching from where I left (After the Colts made it 17-7)

Thoughts, since I drew Half 1 on charting, even though I am pretty sure no one will read them 280-something comments down:

-I really don’t know that the offense has played a better game than that, overall. The interceptions were both brutal plays, and the return for TD especially (Schaub’s biggest blind spot is definitely the underneath linebacker), but other than that I didn’t think the team made many mistakes, and even the first INT wasn’t so bad considering the field position battle. I was actually a little surprised we didn’t run MORE in the second half, because we were just so successful at it. I was more mad at the play-action pass calls on first down, considering that we need to grind clock, but I also think those are slightly defensible calls considering you do want the offense to be somewhat-aggressive and they were unexpected.

-The biggest issues were the penalties and the absolute shit-tacularity that was Dunta Robinson. Some of the penalties were just…random flukes (the Smith hit to the head and the…I don’t even know what else to call it but the non-pass interference pass interference), but the false starts and holding calls on the offensive line were brutal, Dunta is brutal in coverage, and Glover Quin is showing some real bad habits the last two weeks as far as not getting his head turned around…I’d love to see him at FS.) I wasn’t impressed with the run defense either, but I attribute a lot of that to the difference between Eugene Wilson and John Busing. John Busing should be outright cut. He doesn’t belong in the NFL, and every game he starts is an indictment of Frank Bush.

-Likewise, while I expected Busing to suck, I thought this was the best pressure the defense had gotten in awhile, but Bush’s blitzes left something to be desired and I think the Colts first TD came as a direct result of one of them.

-As far as the Fire Kubiak crowd…I am starting to come to grips with the fact that it’s inevitable. I don’t think he had much to do with this game, but I’m of the mind that the offense and defense are two completely different units coached by two completely different coaches. If you want to blame the defensive calls on Kubiak, I can understand why you’d want him out. He’s an offensive guy and I think he’s doing a fairly solid job.

Me, this game turned me further on Bush. The lack of discipline, the continual starting of Robinson and Busing. Too much zone. Too many blitzes with no chance for success. I’m sorry, but if you want to get rid of the culture of losing, I start with the holdover from the side of the ball that has been losing games for the Texans since 2005. This team needs a new direction on defense.

I am pretty sure we outplayed the Colts and lost this game. Football is easily the roughest game to draw on regression to the mean, because you only have 16 games, but I think we’d beat the Colts 4 or 5 times out of 10 tries with the level of play we saw on both sides the last two times they met. It just didn’t happen this year.

re: cunta

I still firmly believe that Mcnair and Kubes came to the conclusion, from day one, that they will go as Cunta goes. If Bob has to shell out that goddamn franchise money, we’re going to get every single play out of that no talent assmaster, and let him either rise above or hang himself.

while I don’t agree with it, because I wasn’t one of those people who even felt like Cunta was #1 or 2 on this team, there were many out there that claimed he was, without question. Maybe they were of this thinking as well, so Bob agreed not to can Kubes no matter how bad the outcome.

That’s how it played in my head, anyway.

Team as a whole

The Texans continue to have the same problems they’ve always had. The can’t run the ball, they can’t stop the run, and the can’t hold on to or continue scoring after getting a lead. I agree that they have no killer instinct once they get ahead. These were problems last year and the year before. True enough they are a better team than they were but it gets so frustrating watching them lose a game after having the game in hand. Why can’t we get a desent running back. or some interior linemen that can actually plug up the center of our defence. Everyone we play knows if they need yardage, just run it up the middle, the D-line can’t stop can’t stop us anyway. Even the fans know what an opposing team has to do beat us. Run it up the gut. Our defencive backfield is better, passing is better than most, recieving is above average, Ends are good both sides of the ball. Who’s fault is when the team just blows up on both sides of the ball when they get lead. It’s everybodies: Coaches, players, management. There dose not seam to be any leaders. players and coaches keeping them fired up. We need a team of B. Cushings and M. Williams when he’s healthy, D. RYANS and Kubiac to start kicking ass and taking names. If you aren’t playing to your potencial bench um.

Damn The Bad Luck!

I just sold my Houston franchise to, “Pitchforks, Torches, Tar, & Feathers ’R US!” Bidness had been in the toilet since Casserly-N-Capers left town.
