RIP Houston Texans' playoff aspirations: 9/13/09 - 11/29/09. The Texans playoffs hopes were unofficially killed Sunday, by a lack of defense, coaching and more specifically Kris Brown missing key field goals in the previous weeks. The team is survived by the ever-familiar "always next year" mantra. There will be no ceremony held.
Those who knew the deceased are encouraged to post fond memories they have of the recently passed. Please make a donation to your neighborhood high school team in lue of sending flowers.

I'm Just Sad
One of these years, things will turn. They have to.
Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...

No they don't.
Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I keep telling myself
That when we finally win, I’m gonna be the happiest man on the earth. I want to be able to tell my kids that I was there in the beginning when the Texans sucked ass. Now I’m wondering if I’ll have to wait until I have kids to see the Texans win. Is this team that much closer to winning than last year? Last year we had a bunch of close losses. The only thing that changed is that this year we started better but we’re limping and crawling to the finish line. This is just painful. 8 years man, 8 years. I had a meltdown towards the end of this game. I have to keep reminding myself that our team is professional and not pop warner.

Lighten up Texan fans.
It’s not like we haven’t been in this situation before.

That's the problem.

I'd rather be in this situation
than the situation we were in four years ago.
When no matter who we played, our chances of winning was 1 out of 10 and our chances of making the playoffs was 1 out of 213921493594

I'd rather be winning.
But that’s just me.

So you know, you can feel like a winner.
It’s not our time yet.

What could possibly be wrong with saying I'd rather be winning?
If settling for mediocrity is something that is ok with you, then good for you.
I will NEVER be happy with losing. I’m not built that way.

Of course it's not okay with me.
Do I look like an Astro’s fan to you?
Of course i’d rather be winning. But right now, im content with our record. We’re not a uber talented team. We have gaping holes on both sides of the ball. That was apparent when the season started.
by Jordann on Nov 30, 2009 4:13 PM CST up reply actions 0 recs
I don't know about that.
We don’t have gaping holes on offense. We have (or had) the #3 offense in the NFL, even with the crappy running game, yet they can’t get it done when it matters.
Defense, ya we need corners and a pass rush no doubt.
But with a "high powered offense, our defense should be good enough to get us a winning record and a wild card spot.
It comes down to simple mistakes and bad execution. This offense just can’t put together two halves of football.

Other than Winston.
Do you think any of our OL are even close to being above average?
The problem with our offense is obviously the run game. We don’t have a “high-powered offense”. We just have a prolific passing game. If you add an above average running game to that, then maybe we can compete for a wild card.
There’s so many holes to fill.
And the simple mistakes and bad execution, there’s no excuse. Kubiak needs to do a better job, but we are forgetting that this is his first year coaching.

3rd year*
Did you mean his first time coaching as a head coach?

I think the tackles are both pretty solid.
The interior line is the major weakness of the offense. And lack of a pass rush from the 4 down linemen has been the most glaring defensive failure IMO.

I was at work when the game was on
I broke two pens. Covered my pants, hands and cellphone in ink.The weekends processing data and timesheets ended up thrown across my office.
I shoved a co-worker out of my way as I left the office and was lucky not to get reprimanded.
I disappeared from the office for a couple of hours to settle down.

Thats why I called in sick.
I would not have been fun to work with last Monday. This Monday I am at peace with the Texans having the same record as Tenn.

You should do an obituary for Dunta
I haven’t seen him since 2008.

Some people are still in denial about the passing of this dear team.
From Yahoo Sports: "I think Gary has done a good job," McNair said. "I think his coaching staff has done a good job. I think the morale of the team has been very high, there’s no dissension, everybody’s on the same page, nobody is pointing fingers at each other. That is attributed to two things: the coaches and the selection of players and the type of people we have on the team."

Theres still a chance...
Dont get me wrong… its still a long shot, but theres still a chance… 7-4 broncos still have to play the colts and eagles (two possible losses) 6-5 teams its possible the could lose at least one more game this season… and then theres us… 5-6 teams… We just happen to have the better schedule amoung these teams… But if we lose one more game its game over… see you next season… (except for some of the coaching staff)

LOL
Yes there is a chance for the Texans to grab a Wild Card, but then what after that? The coaching staff is not deep enough to instill the motivation and pride to push for a win. The Texans always blow leads and give up the close games. Yes they have proven they can beat bad teams but they can’t hang with the good teams. Close but no cigar!
How often or when have we seen Kubiak on the sideline with an O or D line to hype them up and raise their morale – before a critical play?
He does not watch key plays, but is always seen walking away from them. Not much to inspire there when the coach is not right at the line watching the critical play and cheering for his boys!

"Then what after that?"
Please good sir, just be happy with somehow us getting in the playoffs.

Seriously, if we make the playoffs and asshats are still screaming for Cowher there will be a wave of mysterious castrations.

Sir_vilhelm first off we play well agaisnt the elite teams out there. It isnt an automatic W, like the first years of the texans. We dont always blow leads and give up close games….(yeah, i’ve been watching lately, 3 games does not constitute always) We’re a good time, on the brink of becoming a great team. The diffrence is a couple yards that they will gain in the next 5 games…
sit and watch, because we start our winning streak on sunday.
