Is the Ryan Moats experiment done?
I was an advocate last week for not giving Moats too much credit after Buffalo. I felt that the Bills run defense is so bad that it didnt matter who was running the ball. Moats got the nod this week because Slaton couldnt protect the ball. Thats it. All the talk about Moats hitting the hole better was always nonsense to me, and the Colts game just reinforced that to me. The problem was never Slaton hitting the hole, it was always the lack of blocking sucess from the offensive line. So after a 38 yard with a 2.3 YPC performance, is anyone convinced he should keep getting the load? I mean he fumbled on the 1 yard line, and protecting the ball was the only reason NOT to have Slaton in that exact position. I believe that coming out of the bye, you gotta go back with Slaton with 75% of the touches. Hes more talented and more dangerous in open space. Thoughts?

Slaton should be starting
for the MNF game. Moats chief job was to protect the ball, and he failed miserably.

Since we have firmaly established that our running backs automatically fumblew the ball anywhere near the goal line....
….it doesn’t really matter who we start.
Hell Schaubs starting to run the ball all of a sudden…I say we let him stuff it in lol.

well you are right in that it doesnt matter who we start when it comes to protecting the ball, so might as well put the guy with the most talent out there and at least get some big plays.

I Think It's Done
That’s not to say that Moats was awful; just that Slaton is the more explosive option, and it probably would’ve taken another big game from Moats to keep Slaton chained to the bench.
I said it before yesterday, and I’ll say it again: I’ll be surprised if Slaton’s not starting for MNF.

Larry Johnson
ESPN’s Adam Schefter mentioned the Texans as a playoff contender who could use a RB….
Would the Texans sign the ex-Chiefs RB who causes trouble? Probably not. But it is a thought….

when will people realize our running game woes are not because of who is in the backfield? If the offensive line doesnt block, it doesnt matter who you put back there to run. Besides Larry Johnson sucks and he likes to run his mouth to the media. I wouldnt want that used up cancer on my team.

I betcha they talk to him....from Texans perspective LJ is a problem, but no rungame = no playoffs.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they work him out.

Agreed
There aren’t too many consistencies in the Texans FO, but they have never chased a bad character guy.

I figured as much...
I love that the Front Office has that much down…but since he said Indy, SD, and NE (Schefter seemed sold it’ll be to an AFC team), makes me wonder if the front office would consider it based on the fact that SD is half a game up in the wild card standings….

Dito
Moats was the starter just to give SS some time to get his head straight, he has never been the long term option, he was to put in in Colts language “the next man up”

well if you have been reading before the game, lots of people said Moats should be the starter and the job should be his to lose.

Yeah i've read all the talk about Moats starting.
And I was one of the people that agreed for Moats to start yesterday but not to keep him as our all time starter. Just for a couple of games till Slaton gets his head straight.
Moats IS young but he’s not a quality starter.

I think he should be used to spell Slaton, but I think Slaton should get the bulk of the touches. Unless the bastard keeps fumbling, then we should just go 5 wide every play.

You guys are completely ridiculous
Moats fumbled, we get it, BUT IT WAS ONLY 1 FUMBLE. How many does Slaton have this season?? Last week a vast majority of this fan base was in favor of Moats starting for multiple reasons. He hits the hole harder, he hadnt had fumbling issues, and he played well against the Bills. I was a supporter of starting Slaton but giving Moats carries.
Fact is, BOTH RUNNING BACKS SUCKED YESTERDAY. The Colts run defense is not a whole lot better than the Bills, Colts were 30th in rush d before yesterday. Moats fumbled once on the goal line, Slaton has fumbled 7 (SEVEN) times this season. Im still a supporter of starting SS and having Moats get carries too, but yall are fucking ridiculous to jump off of one RB who fumbled 1 time and jump back on a RB who has fumbled 7 times, even though the RB with 7 is more explosive. Slatons numbers yesterday arent anything to go crazy over.

jesus christ if I have to hear this ‘hits the hold harder’ crap one more time. Its absolute nonsense. A spider monkey could run well against the Bills. And what NFL are you watching, the Colts are 14th against the run. The Bills are dead fucking last. I jump off the Moats bandwagon(which i was never on) because hes not as talented, hes not as dangerous as a receiver, and he didnt protect the ball. He didnt give us anything we werent getting already. Put the guy with more talent on the field.

My mistake, the Colts were 30th in rushing o
but were 17th in rush yds allowed per game, and 22nd in avg/rush before sunday.
Im not a Moats advocate, and I wasnt last week. Steve is more talented as you said, but he changes the play sometimes. If I remember correctly, sometime in the 4th, Steve took the handoff for a run off the left guard. Steve immediately turned right thinking no one was over there and was stopped by the Colts CB for a 2 yd gain. He missed the hole the O-line made for him and wasnt able to beat the defender to the outside. I have not seen Moats change a play like that, and Ive seen it multiple times from Steve.
I wasnt saying that Moats should start, but people on this blog are so narrow sighted. Moats had a good game against the worst rush D in the league and everyone jumps on his bandwagon. Then, the next week, Moats has a bad game against a middling rush D with Steve not doing anything special, and everyone jumps off the Moats wagon. People need to look at more than just one game (or one kick: read Kris Brown) and look at the big picture.

I hope Slaton starts against the tits and gets about 2/3s of the touches, unless moats is showing him up, in which case he should get the rock. Both should be involved.
