Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: Ask Big Cat Country

What's up Texans?

Don't worry, after the way our teams played last week I brought plenty of Four Loko.

For anyone that doesn't know me, I'm John, one of the editors over at Big Cat Country, SBN's Jaguars blog. Even a week ago I thought our teams were headed for a playoff elimination game on Sunday, but last week certainly changed that. The Jags and Texans have quite the history, so feel free to ask anything you want to know.

Also, if Rashean Mathis can't go again this week, can't we force Andre Johnson to play with one hand tied behind his back?

The Jaguars are 4-1 at home

And I think they will win this tough battle. They are more healthy; more angry; they have reason for more things to play for.

Britton and Monroe?

Thoughts on them so far? Superstar tandem for years to come, or is one of them a festering wound? Seems like they’ve both been up and down this year from afar.

Up and down is the best way to say it

Sunday was a definite down, giving up 6 sacks. That being said, that was the first truly bad game either has had since the debacle in Seattle.

Super inconsistent, yes

But the upside is there for both and I strongly feel this is a pair of tackles that will start at their respective positions for the next decade.

Is Jack Del Rio on the hot seat again ?

I have no respect for Del Rio, and would enjoy seeing him out of work.

I've been saying 8 wins is his magic number

While yesterday’s loss doesn’t have him on the hot seat, if we lose to the Texans, it’ll be getting warmer.

I hope the Texans help to get the seat hot again.

I think Del Rio is a punk. My hatred of Del Rio goes back to a game at Reliant years ago, we had a small punt returner named JJ Moses who was shredding the Jags. So on the next punt JJ called for a fair catch and a Jag’s player speared him while he was still waiting for the ball to come down. Then Jack gave the guy chest bumps and high fives for his cheapshot, hated him ever since.

he will fired after this season. He must lose all games for to that to have any chance. If he wins this week; he is the head coach of he Jaguars in 2010; in my opinion.

How

And why did you come to be a Jaguars fan?

by JimboTexan on Dec 1, 2009 9:39 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Origin Story

I watched the NFL since the late 90’s (watching is too much; I watched every Superbowl since 98 in Geramn TVs) Then I heard a funny team name called jacksonville Jaguars; who were in the playoffs. I said Wow; what a funny name.
Then on 2003/04 2 thinhgs happened:a Hungarian Sport chaneel start to broadcast NFL every week (one game sundays + MNF) plus I discovered the thing called internet-and I start look after th Jags. I found Jaguars.com and senior editor Vic Ketchman; and I slowly start to fell in love with them. In recent years i start to become a hardcore Jags fan.

This is a young team with 13 rookies and 27 new players. You cannnot expect consistent playing level from them. Also (sadly) I think the offense not played 100% just yet.
Jack Del Rio is another factor; but I don’t blame him for example Sunday’s loss. He cannot protect the QB; or put the pressure on the QB…

We already had 4 UDFA rookie starts(you will see Julius Williams; DE at the starting lineup; and we start wih 4 rookies every game if they were healthy: LT Monroe; RT Britton; DT “Pot Roast” Knighton(best of the blockbuster rookie draft class-check the Run defense stats…; And CB Cox(2 INT-one of the mwas from Peyton manning in opening day!).

by TexansDC on Dec 1, 2009 4:50 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Depends purely on the combine and other teams

If he is impressive during the Combine, and for sure he’ll impress people mentally; Leadership intangibles etc. Then I guess it’d be alright. We should have a pick after 15 so it’d wouldn’t be too much of a reach i hope.

I don’t like Ticket Sales influencing Draft mojo. I don’t think the GM will allow it, at least for the Jags.

Most Jaguar fans are in the anti-Tebow camp

It seems that the majority would be ok with drafting him, if and only if he is available in the 3rd round.

That's a good read...

…it’s interesting to read the comments as well.

Tebow probably will end up like Reggie Bush. I think he’ll be a good support player who will add an interesting dimension to a team’s offense (FB Pass? End Around Option Pass? Etc etc etc). He shouldn’t go in round 1 due to the money invested/expectations of a 1st round pick (Plus I’m sure real Jags fans will remember converted project QB Matt Jones you guys probably don’t wanna be reminded of that) nor round 2 because of the depth of this draft class, but as a round 3 pick…he is interesting.

He is the best WR since Jimmy Smith in the Jags roster. He stayed healthy; now he has a shot to become the first WR since Jimmy retired to have1000 catching yard.

they were going to do it again in the last game. I’m right there with you. The thing that scared the hell out of me on Sunday after going up 17-0 wasn’t the Colts or Peeytone Manung, Reggie Wayne or Mathis it was the Texans. That has not changed since this team was founded in 2002. It’s amazing how far we’ve come to end up in the same place we’ve always been.

VEeeeeery good

He find a new Stroud in rookie DT Terrance “pot roast” Knighton. The Jags limited EVERY RB (with 1 execption of C. Johnson on week 8; but they limit him on week 4) this year. Frank Gore run under 40 yards last sunday..
I’M very satisfied with Big John; most guys wanna trade him for draft picks in BCC; I’M for the option of keeping hin in the line up

There's always a couple of guys stepping up (except when they don't)

The Torry Holt – Good for 4 or 5 catches a game

Then a HUGE drop off in production

Mike Thomas, rookie WR, has contributed on special teams and as a slot receiver. The last time the Texans and Jags played he was the guy they kept faking the reverse to after he busted off a 22 yard run on a reverse. That had the Texans freaked out for a couple of series.

Ignore the hype; look at the results.

I have a strange feeling

that we are going to lose this one. After what has happened this season, I don’t see us pulling out a winning record. There is a lot of blame to go around, but when it comes time make that final push, we fall backwards.

Jax saw what VY (the devil) did to us with his legs and Garrard will repeat it. Cunta will continue to get burned, but this time by Sims-Walker (damn hyphenated names). The Bowling ball will hopefully be shut down, but that guy is impressive. As for our offense, until we start playing turnover free ball, running the ball better, and make smart play calls I dont see us making that leap forward.

Sadly, the Texans continue to break my heart. I think it was the Monday Night game that really knocked the wind out of me. To let VY the assclown come into our house and do that. Dammit.
