Better Know the Jacksonville Jaguars: Ask Big Cat Country
What's up Texans?
Don't worry, after the way our teams played last week I brought plenty of Four Loko.
For anyone that doesn't know me, I'm John, one of the editors over at Big Cat Country, SBN's Jaguars blog. Even a week ago I thought our teams were headed for a playoff elimination game on Sunday, but last week certainly changed that. The Jags and Texans have quite the history, so feel free to ask anything you want to know.
Also, if Rashean Mathis can't go again this week, can't we force Andre Johnson to play with one hand tied behind his back?

The Jaguars are 4-1 at home
And I think they will win this tough battle. They are more healthy; more angry; they have reason for more things to play for.

Britton and Monroe?
Thoughts on them so far? Superstar tandem for years to come, or is one of them a festering wound? Seems like they’ve both been up and down this year from afar.

Up and down is the best way to say it
Sunday was a definite down, giving up 6 sacks. That being said, that was the first truly bad game either has had since the debacle in Seattle.

Super inconsistent, yes
But the upside is there for both and I strongly feel this is a pair of tackles that will start at their respective positions for the next decade.

I hope the Texans help to get the seat hot again.
I think Del Rio is a punk. My hatred of Del Rio goes back to a game at Reliant years ago, we had a small punt returner named JJ Moses who was shredding the Jags. So on the next punt JJ called for a fair catch and a Jag’s player speared him while he was still waiting for the ball to come down. Then Jack gave the guy chest bumps and high fives for his cheapshot, hated him ever since.

How
And why did you come to be a Jaguars fan?
Origin Story
I watched the NFL since the late 90’s (watching is too much; I watched every Superbowl since 98 in Geramn TVs) Then I heard a funny team name called jacksonville Jaguars; who were in the playoffs. I said Wow; what a funny name.
Then on 2003/04 2 thinhgs happened:a Hungarian Sport chaneel start to broadcast NFL every week (one game sundays + MNF) plus I discovered the thing called internet-and I start look after th Jags. I found Jaguars.com and senior editor Vic Ketchman; and I slowly start to fell in love with them. In recent years i start to become a hardcore Jags fan.

I’M a jaguars fan and I’m faithfull with teams I choose.

The Jags, like the Texans, have been up and down all season. What is the biggest reason for that?
Non-game related question: Also, I know it’s been quite rumored about the Jags wanting Tebow (round 1 pick) because he’s a huge draw. What does the fan base think about such a move?
Well
This is a young team with 13 rookies and 27 new players. You cannnot expect consistent playing level from them. Also (sadly) I think the offense not played 100% just yet.
Jack Del Rio is another factor; but I don’t blame him for example Sunday’s loss. He cannot protect the QB; or put the pressure on the QB…

Yeah
All 9 drafted guys were in he 53 man roster(Jarett Dillard injured at the Jets Game in Week 10) Now we have 8 drafted and 5 UDFA rookies.
Jags have 46 Rookie starts this year-most in the league. We already had 4 UDFA rookie starts(you will see Julius Williams; DE at the starting lineup; and we start wih 4 rookies every game if they were healthy: LT Monroe; RT Britton; DT “Pot Roast” Knighton(best of the blockbuster rookie draft class-check the Run defense stats…; And CB Cox(2 INT-one of the mwas from Peyton manning in opening day!).

We all know how he is received...
…but from a football standpoint, would you be happy sinking a 1st rounder into Tebow? Are you happy with management allowing ticket sales/marketability to possibly influence the team’s drafting strategy?
Depends purely on the combine and other teams
If he is impressive during the Combine, and for sure he’ll impress people mentally; Leadership intangibles etc. Then I guess it’d be alright. We should have a pick after 15 so it’d wouldn’t be too much of a reach i hope.
I don’t like Ticket Sales influencing Draft mojo. I don’t think the GM will allow it, at least for the Jags.

…it’s interesting to read the comments as well.
Tebow probably will end up like Reggie Bush. I think he’ll be a good support player who will add an interesting dimension to a team’s offense (FB Pass? End Around Option Pass? Etc etc etc). He shouldn’t go in round 1 due to the money invested/expectations of a 1st round pick (Plus I’m sure real Jags fans will remember converted project QB Matt Jones you guys probably don’t wanna be reminded of that) nor round 2 because of the depth of this draft class, but as a round 3 pick…he is interesting.
Unlike Vick he would be a true wildcat threat because he could run the ball up the middle effectively.

I mean really they have shown that when their heads are in the game they can go toe to toe with just about anyone. In the end they do a better job of beating themselves then any team not called the Jets has this year.
And you just knew
they were going to do it again in the last game. I’m right there with you. The thing that scared the hell out of me on Sunday after going up 17-0 wasn’t the Colts or Peeytone Manung, Reggie Wayne or Mathis it was the Texans. That has not changed since this team was founded in 2002. It’s amazing how far we’ve come to end up in the same place we’ve always been.
Confucius says "man who stands on toilet, high on pot".
the problem was
I dont think kubs realized we’re in a playoff race… He lifted off the gas at halftime, and before he knew it, he was playing catch up. (Is it me or does he seem to comfortable during these losses?)

and I posted it on the other thread but, the last time the Texans faced the Colts in their “Steel Blue” uni’s, this happened:
I hadn't heard about that. Really ?

Mathis not playing could be the key to the game now.
Whats your CB depth like with Mathis out?

as long as A.J. decides he wants to hold on to the ball this week
if we cant catch they could be wide open and it not matter…

Looking forward to a day when being a Texans fan doesn't mean that April is the highlight of my season...
Nope
I’m jus frustrated that we don’t have a winning record! I jus want to see us in the playoffs for once. Alot of the games we lost were so close and it’s jus hard to believe that we cannot close games. We got potiential but somethin I’s missing or somethin.

we will need to worry about any wide out that daunta is covering
but other than that not really. me and my best friend (who is a jags fan) have been trashing talking all week, they really dont have anyone too explosive that we will need to worry about, just keep an eye on whoever daunta is covering… cause they will be the player to watch

There's always a couple of guys stepping up (except when they don't)
The Torry Holt – Good for 4 or 5 catches a game
Then a HUGE drop off in production
Mike Thomas, rookie WR, has contributed on special teams and as a slot receiver. The last time the Texans and Jags played he was the guy they kept faking the reverse to after he busted off a 22 yard run on a reverse. That had the Texans freaked out for a couple of series.
Ignore the hype; look at the results.

I have a strange feeling
that we are going to lose this one. After what has happened this season, I don’t see us pulling out a winning record. There is a lot of blame to go around, but when it comes time make that final push, we fall backwards.
Jax saw what VY (the devil) did to us with his legs and Garrard will repeat it. Cunta will continue to get burned, but this time by Sims-Walker (damn hyphenated names). The Bowling ball will hopefully be shut down, but that guy is impressive. As for our offense, until we start playing turnover free ball, running the ball better, and make smart play calls I dont see us making that leap forward.
Sadly, the Texans continue to break my heart. I think it was the Monday Night game that really knocked the wind out of me. To let VY the assclown come into our house and do that. Dammit.
I think the game goes down exactly like this video.

Does anyone else find it a bit odd
That our two fanbases get along so well? After the last three games I almost forgot what it was like to have fans that actually breathe through their noses come here.

We have both been beaten down so much by the Colts/Tits that our common hatred unites us.

Yes
Obviously, there is a huge lack of douchebags in Jacksonville (and Budapest) that is contributing to this phenomenon.

Definitely a strong and positive commentary on the type of NFL fan in Hungary.

I don't find it odd.
The 2 franchises have a lot of similarites. We can empathize with each other.
Also, they didn’t come and troll around and neither did we.
This.
It’s quite refreshing. Although the first Indy pregame thread may be the best thread in the history of the internet.

Well,
if you never brought up sore (pun intended!) subject about my gaping hole, it wouldve been 390 instead of 400.
I'm not above accepting responsibility...
