Dominique Barber Returns To Starting Lineup
Dominique Barber will start at FS for the Texans this week, Texans coach Gary Kubiak just announced.
Given that this development means John Busing is not starting at free safety and makes no mention of Brian Russell somehow making the dreams of Seattle fans come true, I suppose this qualifies as a positive.

I think this year's events
Will FINALLY convince the Texans to spend a high draft pick on a safety.
If they don’t, there’s nothing that will.

are you kidding me?
that would be absurd.
j/k I got hammered for the same sentiment earlier.

I felt the same way
but I think Wilson played well enough to make our other holes more important. I think we could use a 3rd or 4th rounder on a safety to develop him for the future, but I feel like DT, C, and CB are bigger needs than S which was one of our better positions with Pollard and a healthy Wilson…but thats just me.

I feel Cody will be there for us in round 1...
…and the draft is deep enough for us to grab a good S or CB in round 2 or 3.
It won't.

Not a surprise
Barber saw most of the snaps in the game last week.

agree
We have sooooo many “best available” needs that I wouldn’t hone in on a single position yet.

You know it seemed like barber actually played ok in the last game, but I could be wrong. Didn’t he team up with dunta for a couple pass breakups?
I thought he did an allright job last week.
He didn’t seem afraid to throw his body into the mix on some hits. I would like to see Adibi get on the field too, might as well see what we have in him in a meaningless game.

He really pissed off Kubiak in the Minnesota pre-season game, apparently.
Hopefully the stuff on 4th down last week got him some playing tokens.
Mount Cody in round 1
Preseason?
Every time he’s been on the field during the regular season, he has sucked horse-cock. He started against the Jets and Titans, and he was probably single-handedly responsible for about 150 of Chris Johnson’s yards and 3 TDs that first game.
Suck suck suck suck suck. Ugh, draft a safety and resign Wilson. Barber/Busing/Russell need to be off the team, or buried so deep in the depth chart they’ll never see the light of day outside of special teams.
Pardon me if I sound bitter, but I hold Barber and Busing accountable for about three losses this season.

I meant Adibi
but I guess I wasn’t clear.
He hasn’t started since he was out of position on the AP TD, from what I remember.
Mount Cody in round 1
Oh, true that.
He got dog-housed big-time for that.
by Nashmeister on Dec 10, 2009 11:09 PM CST up reply actions
and to think if Adibi had just fumbled a couple of times and threw a half-back pass/interception he would be starting today. He has no luck at all.

lest I be accused of blaming the coach
we really don’t know, maybe he would remind us of Busing every time he was out there, and be much worse than their choice at WLB.
You gotta give the coach the benefit of the doubt if his starter is not playing that poorly.
Busing is another story. Put Dunta back there, anyone.
Mount Cody in round 1
I don't think he could do worse than Busing
even if he sat back there and wrote all over his shoes during the play, someone would eventually trip over him.

This is a true, committed fan. He doesn’t bother with asking IF he should start drinking. He takes the initiative to start on his own.

Damn your black heart.
I told a friend today that I was buying some liquor in anticipation of the 31-17 loss to Seattle.
He is a HUGE Cowboys fan and usually harps on the Texans and me at any chance he gets.
He didn’t say a word and then reached in his pocket, handed me ten bucks and walked silently away.

Or we put together a good amount and get effin wasted even before the game starts.
That was nice

I have this twisted fantasy that Barber will actually develop as a playmaking FS by the end of the year. Mind you this is based entirely on nothing.
if he does
it will be against
Seahawks
Rams
Ricky Williams
and Tom Brady’s backup, whomever that is.
But it would be cool, nonetheless.
Mount Cody in round 1
Eric berry and pollard
Would be quite the tandem
I still think Nate Allen might he a good sleeper in the second third or possibly fourth round
I would love to se them go after bethea as well

I don't follow college ball
So what’s with all the man crushes on Berry? Has Taylor Mays fallen off?
Mays has regressed.
However, he’s expected to run a 4.3 40 at the Combine and Al Davis will snatch him up for his professional track team.
by TexansDC on Dec 11, 2009 12:23 AM CST up reply actions 1 recs
I think...
Mays benefited from having three badass linebackers in front of him last year. Now he doesn’t have that cushion, so he continually gets abused. Granted he has made some nice plays this year and he is a physical specimen (6-3, 235 lbs and runs around a 4.4), but I still think he benefited greatly from a lot of players last year.
Thanx
That helps when I’m talking draft. Oh yeah on college would root for the Texas team but for vince young(no need for caps). Fuck the titans.
trivia question
which current houston texan was 8th in the 2002 heisman voting ?????
you will ALL be shocked as i was
they'll both be gone
unless we lose the next 4.
Then McCoy may be available.
Mount Cody in round 1
McCoy legitimately could fall a little. We all know how Senior Days and Combine numbers shoot people up.
from what I read
he plays Okoye’s position, the three technique.
Mount Cody in round 1
Good luck convincing people that isn't what we need.
They’re apparently hell bent on getting players that don’t fill our holes.
Bacon tastes good... Pork chops taste good.
Just wait until after the TX-AL game...
Then, the horny’s will come out, demanding we draft (fill in average TX player who will surely be overrated).
You can set your fuggin watch by it.
Jordan Shipley, you think? That may be my bet, since he fits all the requirements – overrated, played well for TX, draft stock right around what’s likely to be our pick range, and completely goes against anything resembling a draft strategy for this team.
Chicken. Fuggin. Dinner.
Bacon tastes good... Pork chops taste good.
just cause he's white doesnt mean he deserves Tebow comparisons
Like TexansDC said, I think Shipley is a poor man’s Welker. Good punt returner, solid hands, and a good route runner. I dont know how highly Welker was rated coming out of Tech but Id think itd be somewhere close to Shipley. But WR isnt a need right now so who really cares.

Jordan Shipley
Good slot WR, poor man’s Wes Welker. Older than most rookies. Should be drafted in round 4 or 5.
the tits will take him
and he’ll never lose to the Texans!

Rod Muckelroy
Lord knows we desperately need a decent MLB.
If the Treasury Secretary doesn't have to pay taxes, then why do I?
you mean
like Safety, right?
Mount Cody in round 1
I wouldn’t consider Safety a hole, but its possible our secondary would be upgraded more by taking a safety then a CB depending on who is available, which would help with the hole at starting CB.
I agree
Wilson and Pollard have played well this season and we have bigger holes than safety. DT, WLB, G, C, CB just to name a few.

Barber was MUCH better than Busing
That’s gotta be worth something. Maybe he’s not Eugene Wilson good, but he’s not Barber bad.
