Follow the Yellow Brick Road: To The Playoffs
via bitstrategist.files.wordpress.com
Ha! What do you know? I called all the games correctly this past weekend and you know what that means, right? The Texans are on the Yellow Brick Road to the playoffs, bay-bay!!!! Do you feel it, folks? The Texans moved one step further from getting a Fruitcake this holiday and one step closer to their ultimate goal! I am no soothsayer… just laying out the roadmap that the Texans need to follow to get past the pitfalls along the way to the Emerald City...to their final destination, the NFL Playoffs! And, it’s one step at a time; one W for the good guys and enough L’s for the bad guys. Keep your plans open for the first week of the playoffs. Anything is still possible!
Last Week Now Final Week
Denver Broncos 8-4 8-5 8-8
Jacksonville Jaguars 7-5 7-6 8-8
NY Jets 6-6 7-6 8-8
Miami Dolphins 6-6 7-6 8-8
Baltimore Ravens 6-6 7-6 8-8
Pittsburgh Steelers 6-6 6-7 8-8
Tennessee Titans 5-7 6-7 8-8
Houston Texans 5-7 6-7 9-7
Denver Broncos – I said they needed to lose all of their remaining games. The Broncos are cooperating so far. They lost the first one against Indy. Next week they face division rival Oakland and we can only hope that the Raiders can pull the upset at Denver. The Broncos are who we thought they would be…even with Brandon Marshal snagging 21 catches in a losing cause….just setting the bar higher for AJ, is all.
Jacksonville Jaguars – I called this one. Miami went to Jacksonville and played well, holding MJD in check for most of the game and getting the W. This week, the Jags host Indy at Jacksonville on Thursday, as Indy looks to extend their unbeaten record to 14 games this season. I’m calling Indy in this one. The Jags are on schedule for loss number two.
NY Jets – The Jets won at Tampa Bay as I called it. Next week they host Atlanta and I have called for the Jets to win this one, too, as they build up hope in their fanbase and set them up for the big collapse in their last two games against Indy and Cincy…so far, so good.
Miami Dolphins – They won, beating the Jags and helping the Texans along the way. But as we know, it’s tough to win two consecutive games against AFC South Division foes. This week, the Phins face the Titans and I am calling for Bud Adams to give us an early gift and pinning an L on the Phins. In return, Bud gets the ultimate fruitcake in the shape of a "Bud-bird" as a show of thanks!
Baltimore Ravens – The Ravens took care of business against the Lions, as predicted. Now, it’s on to the Chicago Bears and Lovie Smith, another coach fighting for his job. This is an upset pick, but I think the Bears are capable of pulling off the upset in the Ravens' home building. The Bears have to dig down deep and Lovie might have to steal a page out of Kubiak's book and deliver an inspirational speech to his troops. Go Bears!
Pittsburgh Steelers – They had already lost their Thursday night game in Cleveland by the time I threw together my previous playoff ditty. We need the Steelers to help the Texans by putting L’s on the Ravens and Dolphins in their last two games, but they need to lose once more, so this is it. A home loss to Green Bay; a team that is used to sub-zero temps and snowflakes flying; is what needs to happen. Coming in at 9-4, the Packers look capable!
Tennessee Titans – The Titans tuned up on St Louis as expected. This week, the Texans are looking for Bud Adams to lend a helping hand and dole out a victory over the Dolphins. I will personally throw a fruitcake "bird" Bud’s way if the Titans can pull this one out for us!
The Texans did what they had to do and they did it in splendid fashion! The defense rose to the occasion and turned in their most complete game of the decade, IMO. This week, the Texans are on the road to St Louis to take on the team that was softened up last week by the Titans. Thanks again, Bud! The Texans know what to do, and that is get a W!
Keep the faith, Houston Texans fans! The Yellow Brick Road goes through land surrounded by lions, tigers and bears,...Andre...scores!!!!

I'm curious
why everyone seems to want the tits to beat the ’phins.
one. Why ever root for the methapotamian carpet baggers?
They need to draft ahead of us, they may take the next VY, leaving the talent for us.We are one game behind the 'phins, and must win all of our remaining games, thus winning any tiebreaker we ever have with said 'phins.Go Dolphins!
Jags and Jets are gonna be tough to overcome, we need two major fails by those squads.

I spelled out
1,2, and 3 so as to avoid the auto formatting. But the computer is still smarter than me.

I agree, to some extent.
If we beat the Dolphins, which we must, and the Dolphins beat the Titans. Then we both finish on 9-7 and we have the tie breaker.
Unfortunately they are the only team in the wildcard race we have a tiebreaker on.
Although, if the Patriots stumble and we beat them as well…. The Dolphins or Jets win the division and we’d hold the tie breaker on the Patriots too.

there are seven teams up there
competing with us.
Six that we have to beat out for the one remaining position.
One is completely out of the picture if Miami wins.
It just so happens the team that must lose to make that happen is the lowly tits.
Its a win, win, win for me.

and how does the tits beating the Dolphins
help your Patriots scenario?
I would think for that you’d want the Dolphins to win also?

Thats why...
The third part of that post starts with…..Although……
Which, I believe, means that it is a separate and/or alternate thought.
If we beat the Patriots and the Dolphins we’d hold a tiebreaker against both teams. But in either case, it only counts if that team doesn’t win the division. So if the Jets win the Division, then we finish 9-7 and equal with the Dolphins and/or the Patriots, we’d hold both tie breakers.

If we win out we still don't go.
Baltimore is capable of handling their remaining schedule fairly handily.
I see Baltimore as the main obstacle to us getting a wildcard.
That and the fact that we are 5-7…….and have no tie breakers worth anything…..and cant beat good teams….
Other than that though…we’re solid!! LETS ROCK!

Let's just stop the season now
and start the playoffs!
What?
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
Ya I know, that's why they play the game.
Just saying. All those other teams could very well stumble, alot of tough schedules out there.
Baltimore? Chicago, @Pitt, @Oakland They should be able to put on auto-pilot at this point. Going to take a major mistake by them for this to work.
Now if the Steelers can figure out where they left their game, that could be interesting.
But Jay cutler is going to be on his back all game and Gradkowski basically lost both legs last game so here comes Russell again perhaps.

Baltimore (7-6)
not unbeatable….playing division rival Steelers, always a game no matter who is injured. Why not Chicago? Okay, Chicago is a stretch, I know, but I called it! It’s an upset and I’m rooting for Chicago! We only have this weekend to hold out hope on that call. But, I’m calling for Baltimore to fall twice. Chicago is one of the falls.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
after this weekend
we can’t be in much worse shape, assuming we take care of business.
And the rest of this picture will be very clear.
If we’re still in it AFTER beating Miami, and it comes down to the Pats plus some luck, it will add some excitement to the new year at least.

it all seems possible
Well except the broncos losing their next 3 games.
I see them losing in philly but beyond that… i can only hope.
With everything else, i agree things could go houston’s way…
but lets not get ahead of ourselves.. lets just win the next game.
Yes, one week at a time, for the Texans.....
If the Texans don’t continue to win, the plan is immediately shot to hell.
We can’t expect all the other teams to lose in the same week. We can only look at their schedules. If it all goes chalk, then yes, I think the Ravens and Broncos are probably in. I am fighting rooting for that to happen. How does it not happen? They have to get upset. The Raiders, a team that has not true identity has to gel for one game and upset the Broncos this weekend.
The Chicago Bears have to rise up and support their coach-under-fire Lovie Smith. If there are two upsets I see as possibilities, it is these two games. I have to root for them!
Two games, two upsets, the hopes of the Texans are riding on it. That being said, it’s not the end of the road if the Broncos and Ravens win….at least I don’t think, but, I have to draw up a new road map if that happens.
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
And to start this week for those watching this...
Colts (14-0) outlast the Jags (7-7). Colts look like they’ll play their guys which is good since they’ll now take on the Jets.
One down
Need losses by the Ravens, Steelers, Dolphins and Broncos this weekend.
Ravens will be the tough one. C’mon Lovie! Rally the Bears to victory! We need this one….
I have hopes for the Raiders putting one on the Broncos, as Charlie Frye is getting the ball instead of Jamarcus Russell.
Phins should get the loss against the Titans, then the Steelers are faltering and I think the Packers can take them right now.
Keeping the fingers crossed….
I suppose if all of the stars, moons and planets align it could be possible, but what are the chances of that?
tie breakers
Since the Jags are walking down the yellow brick road with us, I decided to delve a little deeper.
Lets eliminate some from the list, assuming we all win out (except the Dolphins, where we can’t both win out).
We win the tie-breaker over the tits, Steelers, and Dolphins. Don’t worry about these teams, we actually want them to win out, in case they play someone else on the list. They cannot hurt us.
The only teams left in our way are:
Jags – they need one loss (out of two remaining)
Ravens – need two losses (out of three)
Jets – need two losses (out of three)
Our hill is becoming less steep, but surely one of those three will deliver the knock out blow.
The good news is, we’ll still be in the hunt after Sunday, as long as we win.
Mount Cody in round 1
I should also add
we lose the tie breakers to all three remaining teams, so its all about the losses from here on out.
